Future consultant? Critique me!

Hey all. I will be recruiting this coming fall for a full time strategy consulting position and wanted to know your thoughts on my resume, my background, my chances at getting interviews, etc. I've thoroughly read both Case in Point and Case Interview Secrets, and have also networked quite a bit with alumni that are working currently, so I have a solid idea on what is expected of me. I've attached a document to the post, so if you could take a look and provide any criticism, I'd be very appreciative.

First of all, Hook 'Em. Now, on to the serious stuff...

Your numbers -- GPA, LSAT -- are fine, though I'm surprised that you're going for a MAcc yet express interest in consulting. With the exception of your grad degree, nothing on your resume really points that you're interested in either field. Are you involved in any consulting-like clubs (like UT's Global Business Brigades), or other extracurriculars? Given what you've told us about your prep and your future career interests, it seems like you're gunning for the MBB.

Your position descriptions, with the possible exception of your Social Media position, are fluffy. Where are your results (for example, "as a result of doing XYZ, the company saw a 25% increase in revenue in the first quarter of sales")? You helped the telecom stores expand... and? I see you've attempted to quantify your achievements, but not too much so. See my earlier example -- you want to quantify and show results at the same time, kind of like a one two punch.

Also, a personal thing, but I'm not a fan of the font; it's rather unprofessional, though others might disagree.

m56, thank you for the criticism, I'm making revisions taking your comments into consideration. I'll tackle your comments 1 by 1.

I'm not involved in any consulting-type clubs, but have participated in case comps. I'm going for the MAcc as a backup plan, in case I don't get any FT offers. Assuming I don't, I plan on doing TS for B4 for a few years and then going back to get an MBA.

Thanks for the comments about the results, I'm updating my resume to quantify my achievements.

As for the font, it's required by bschool OCR =\

There is a lot of unused white space on your resume. Add some more details to your work experience and fill it out. Also, I agree with m56 - at first glance, it doesn't seem like you're that interested in consulting. Try and change the wording/ordering/etc to make it clear off the bat that you have some experience in problem-solving besides your current position (done any case competitions, etc?). If you can make your resume more "consulting-oriented," you'll get first rounds with your GPA. Good luck!

Make sure it fits one page so maybe decrease spacing between each line. Other than that it looks pretty solid. I would also change a font to a more popular one like Times New Roman. I would also add more detail to each job description.

Hook 'em. I'm not in it, but MPA is a great program.

1) Fix the dash after "Non-Profit Hospital". People notice formatting errors like that. Also fix the dashes between the dates on College Scholar and University Honors by making them full-size dashes and adding a space.

Aside from the formatting, use stronger language. This is really intangible but makes a huge difference. Use high-impact sentences that make your resume sound exciting and far more impressive. Start each bullet with stronger leading verbs. For example on the first bullet point it would sound a lot better if you said "Expanded Boost Mobile franchise by 18 stores, resulting in $2M revenue increase." There is no need to state that you did all of this in less than a year - they can tell from your start and end dates.

Wherever you can, try to keep the bullet points to one line.

Drop the first three lines of your "Additional" section. The honors won't impress anybody at MBB and a 166 is very subpar for successful hires (your SAT I is ok but not great... worth leaving on since you are much higher than your school average).

Drop the work eligibility line too, if you're applying to MBB (not sure about boutiques). They really do not care. Add something more interesting (if you have any) under hobbies/interests. That's the part they love to read the most (at least I know I do). "Traveling, sports, personal fitness" makes you sound really boring ("motorcycles" is okay). Also, check your grammar. Make sure it is correct and consistent: change "utilize" to "utilized"

Overall I think your work experience and activities are weak for MBB. Many other candidates will have had previous consulting or banking internships, or at least joined consulting clubs in school. I'm not sure what you have lined up for this summer, but I hope it's good. Nonetheless, try to structure the supporting points under your work experiences to better mirror what consultants do, e.g. use "model" instead of "method"

Good luck.
