MBB still hiring Full Time?
I've previously had an interview at one of the MBB type firms for a summer role, but unfortunately that did not materialize at the time.
Now I'm sort of looking into full time opportunities again (already have an offer so I backed off on recruiting for a while), do you think it's too late to apply to one of these firms as someone coming right out of undergrad?
I got my offer just a few days ago (non-target) and I hear OCR is still taking place.
Do you have any tips? What do you think helped you land the interview?
Unfortunately, MBB is not on OCR at my school. So I would be applying directly through the website...
I'm not sure, normally I would advise networking, but since my school in non-target I found very few alumni in the field, especially at junior levels. I mostly reached out to MBA's after I had already gotten an interview for advice.
One thing I can tell you is that my resume was impeccable in terms of formatting, and I applied early. I also had a few boxes checked off (high gpa, high SAT, good work experience).
I'm a super non-target and still have a couple MM FT first round interviews coming up. You still have a chance. Besides MM, I know there are tons of boutiques that are still hiring for FT. Assuming you have a decent resume you can atleast get an interview.
Additionally, you can also try out for corporate banking/commercial banking since many regionals are still hiring (BB&T for e.g recently opened up recruiting for their LDP class of August 2014). Depending on the team you are placed in, you can try and leverage your way into DCM/Lev Fin at an Investment Bank.
Lastly, you should try and look into banks internationally - their recruiting cycle is different then the U.S.
This is the consulting forum...
I know this sounds generic, but I would really network with alumni from your school or any person who works at one of these firms and try to get them to pass your resume off to HR. This will increase the chances of you getting an interview significantly
The no-brainer response that I'm surprised nobody's mentioned yet is to start by contacting the people you were in touch (both the main recruiter and any consultants you met) with during the internship recruiting process. If you were able to get an MBB interview for their summer internships, I'd be very surprised if you weren't able to get at least an interview for full-time, since summer hiring is much more competitive than full-time hiring.
And also, I'd just apply ASAP. If your resume is good enough, you may very well get an interview through the strength of that alone. MBB came to campus at my school, but the smaller 2nd-tier firms (Parthenon/LEK/Oliver Wyman) don't, and I was able to get a 1st-rd phone interview with 2 of those firms just by applying through their online application. Didn't know anybody at either firm so didn't really expect to hear back from them but ending up getting to final rounds with both. Not sure if MBB operates similarly but no harm in giving it a shot.
