Career Change to Consulting Possible?
I am looking for a little advice on the feasibility of entering consulting as a career change. My situation is as follows:
I am in my very early 30's, married, live in the Midwest, and have been employeed for 7 years at a very small company that provides real estate development services to major telecom clients like AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, etc. as it relates to their wireless towers. I have a lot of experience with real estate development (traditional and wireless towers) and some experience helping clients in a consulting capacity on other real estate matters. I have my RE brokers license in two states, and have a very entrepreneural personality and range of experiences since I am at such a small company
In terms of education, I have an undergrad degree in finance, and an MBA from the same school. The school is a very well respected state school that has a good reputation in the Midwest. I recieved my MBA right after my undergrad so all of my work experience is post MBA.
1. I know most enter the industry right after undergrad or their MBA, so what are my chances of finding a position and being hired for it given my situation. Is my experience post MBA a positive or negative?
2. What salary could I expect, and what would my career progression look like in terms of position and salary?
3. I live in a major Midwest city (not Chicago) where all of the big 4 have offices. I realize travel is a big part of the job, but would it be possible to make my city home base for quite a while without moving?
4. I would like to start a family in the next two years. Any possibility of me staying in consulting and traveling less two or so years down the road?
Thanks in advance for the advice.
