Boss threatens to fire me because "your brain has a problem"

Hi guys:

As you can understand, i'm posting this from a throw-away account...i'm 6 months into my new job and my boss threatened to fire me because my "brain is too stupid and has a problem". the issue that caused it was that I didn't calculate a number correctly because i was new to the asset class and didn't think the specific way of doing it would be different from what I learned before.

Now, while I agree that the number was wrong and I could have been more careful, I wanted to see your opinion on what I should do with this---the original line he said was "I think your brain has a problem, your thinking process is too stupid, i'm wasting my time here and i'm going to give you 3 month". he was not joking about this and looked very annoyed. I'm not sure if i'm that stupid or I need to look for a job. This job/asset class is new to me, and previously I was working in a similar research/analyst role for 2 years but with an entirely unrelated asset class. He knows I was not experienced when he hired me, and I was very clear about it during the interview process.

Any feedback appreciated...Thanks!

Seeing as "any feedback" is appreciated, I would caution you to keep an open mind to the idea that there is in fact a problem with your brain. Maybe try a crossword and if you can't finish it get a workup at the local insane asylum.

One the other hand, this sounds more like mr. boss man left work early the day before and caught his wife fucking the mailman, then came into work the next bad with a bad attitude. If this is an isolated incident, let it go (and don't expect an apology). If this shit happens again, as has been suggested, get out.

Hedge .... starting looking but also make sure you dont make the mistake again. maybe your boss wants you to pull up your socks and dosent want you to take this lightly.

you cant know everything and mistakes happens. But if the same mistakes keep happening then there is a problem

So...What happened?

It doesn't sound like a good situation, but mistakes are mistakes. If it made him look like an ass then that is the source of his frustration, even if he was unreasonable.

I personally am prone to small mistakes, so I spend extra time, work extra hours to dedicate myself to to precision and avoiding them as much as possible.

Hope it worked out for your regardless.

Christ. Get a new job ASAP. Even if he wasn't serious, he's a piece of shit. As someone who worked for a god awful boss a couple years ago, it's really not worth and it doesn't end well. A good boss makes everything better.
