How to dress for the buy side?

Hey Guys,

I have an internship in a PE shop in NYC this summer. I am starting to buy my wardrobe for this summer, but I am unsure how to dress for the buy side. There are lots of threads regarding what to buy as a SA, but they are all for IBD.

I had 4 interviews at this firm and none of the people that interviewed me were wearing a suit. They only wore shirts without ties. This makes me question what type of shirts should I buy for this summer? If I am not wearing a suit very often (is this standard in PE shops?), wouldn't it be weird to be wearing light blue shirts without a tie or a suit? Should I get shirts with a be more design (i.e lined ?) What exactly should I be buying?

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Best,

This topic has been discussed plenty of times and, with a name like yours, it's pretty ironic how you've overlooked those threads (pun intended). Consider taking the safe option: buy soft, plain colours and start by showing up in a suit. If you realize that most people don't wear ties, then keep one in your drawer for when you need it. Otherwise, do what they do.
