What are Your Favorite Tabletop/Board Games?

I ask this because I just found Secret Hitler and I'm having an absolute blast playing this game with my friends. Here are some other ones that always make for a good time with family and friends:

  • Coup: 5 players or less. Great game, each one lasts roughly 15 min. This is the absolute favorite among my family and friends.

  • Catan: 4 players or less unless you get an expansion. I feel like finance guys will love this, it involves an economy of sorts that changes game-to-game and a lot of trading. Each game lasts around an hour give or take.

  • Mafia: Any amount of players, typically 7-12. Great party game and is setup with a simple deck of cards. I introduced this to my classmates upon moving schools and a couple weeks later half the school was playing it. Easy way to make friends and easy way to have a good time. Game time varies a lot.

Monkeys, what tabletop/board game gems have you found that you know and love?

Dungeons & Dragons, broskie.

If you make a system to assign real life to Monopoly currency, you and your friends can throw in money in a pot and at the end of the game divide the money based on the cash that each of you has.

Honestly after watching Stranger Things I was intrigued by DnD, I didn't know such a thing existed. It sounds like a dope game, it's just a shame it has the social stigma attached to its name.

Monopoly with some $$ in it sounds legit. I heard it gets pretty intense so I imagine throwing some $$ in there would make it that much better. Admittedly, I haven't actually played the game. Am I missing out?

If you like Catan, spend some time on BoardGameGeek.com to see what else might appeal to you and look for anything that has won Spiel des Jahres (German for "Game of the Year"). Catan is a great game, but there are much better board games out there. I have a buddy who has a massive board game collection, so we regularly play. I like anything from Reiner Knizia (e.g. Tigris and Euphrates, Ra, Samurai, Lost Cities) and anything from Uwe Rosenberg (e.g. Agricola, Caverna).

Still salty I never got to play Goldeneye with my older bros on N64. My generation has had some great games no doubt, but I'd take Nintendo classics like Super Smash bros and Mario Kart over Halo/CoD any day.

Ahhh Diplomacy looks sick! I tried really hard to get my friends to play it with me, but (if I recall correctly) the games typically last 4-7 hours which makes it difficult to commit to.

Have you played it and if so how did you like it?

True, the game lasts long due to the negotiations. You might also destroy some friendships through that game , as backstabbing is a big part of it. E.g. playing as France and having an agreement with England to nicely split up Germany between the two of you (Germany seems to be in an alliance with Russia). You are moving your troops to the French-German border, ready to invade, while that f--ker England held secret talks with Germany and instead invades your undefended Normandy while Germany keeps your troops busy at the border. In panic, you reach out to Russia and try to convince him to backstab Germany and invade his now undefended Eastern flank in order to ease pressure on you.

If you know the rules, you can also play online against other players, but it is much more fun to play in person: Diplomacy online
