I own a few Hermes ties, but Ive read a lot of conflicting stuff vis-a-vis what is acceptable to wear as an intern at an ibank. While obviously, I can rock the fuck out of these ties, I can empathize with someone who actually has a job at the bank, thinking "who does this prick think he is?".

That's a 200 dollar tie vs a watch that probably costs over 20k. Quite the difference. And some offices really don't care if you wear Hermes ties (might be regional, can't comment on that). Don't wear the belt, though.

It's risk/reward. Many people won't care about what you wear but you risk rubbing people the wrong way. As an intern, everyone is your superior, and you should desire to give the best impression. Anyone in FO finance will recognize a Hermes tie.. personally speaking, I wouldn't risk it just because I'd be cautious. Then again, if OP pulls it off nicely, what do I know.

wear it, no one will give a shit. People on here act like you're about to walk into the office with a 100K iced out Patek Philippe... at the end of the day it's a tie, people have better things to worry about than your tie.
There will be plenty of people who wear Hermes and immediately recognize your tie. Of those people, a good portion will view an Hermes tie as a symbol of success - something they had to earn. Because you're an intern, you've obviously not earned it. This definitely could rub a handful of people the wrong way. Is it worth it? From a risk/reward proposition, what's to be gained by wearing it?

I mean, I get where you're coming from but it's important to consider that whether they suck at their job/are oversensitive or not, at the end of the day their opinion of me is the difference between getting a job offer and being jobless. That being said, if I'm being honest it's probably not gonna stop me from wearing nice shit.

If you produce good work, no one will notice what tie you are wearing
As an intern don't wear anything that is easily interpreted as being flashy / luxury branded. Fairly or not, you will be perceived as "that guy". That guy is someone who is either 1) a prestige whore 2) a money whore 3) lacking a personal identity so therefore has to compensate with status symbols 4) lacking self-awareness about his position in the banking scheme and how he could be perceived, or just generally lacking self awareness. In summary, more downside that upside.

Personally wouldn't care but the crux of it is, people will notice. You do well and they won't care, but if you suck you'll be labeled as a cuck who wears nicer shit than his intern colleagues but can't perform up to the mark
Best answer to any of these posts I ever read. Honestly if you have the wherewithal to question it on this forum, you probably just shouldnt do it. Even if no one cares it will make you feel self conscious.

I guess it depends on the kind of job and how your appearance is perceived at your job. There used to be interns in my company who would drive a Porche 911 or a BMW M3 to work, while other employees drove a Honda or Toyota. To me your appearance doesn't mean a thing as long as you're capable and perform at your job.
I think it's a bad idea to wear an Hermes tie if you are not totally confident about it. I was in the same situation some years ago and felt pretty bad the first day I tried to wear one. If you are still convinced about wearing one, try at least to bring the most discreet you have during the first days.
As long as you (or others) don't make a big deal about it and you perform well I don't see an inherently huge problem.

I'm guessing this topic was triggered by the recent sale of Hermès ties on MyHabit...If you bought one at the price they were going for, you made off like a bandit, but now you can't just stash it in your closet and and act like it's Pandora's box or some shit after you've read some of the responses you've gotten. That'd be a horrible waste. Just rock it like you would any other tie. I doubt most people will be able to tell, anyway.
