Bangkok Bespoke Suits
I'm traveling to Thailand on Monday for fun and have heard quite a bit about the tailors and bespoke suit makers out there. Has anyone here had any success in getting a cheap, quality suit? How much $ are we actually talking?

I got a very nice custom gray suit for under $500 at Raja's Fashions.
I also bought 8 custom dress shirts for about $50/each. I washed one in cold water and it shrank on me. I did not dry the shirt.. Sucks because they have some great prints and $50 is a good price.
The experience was super fun. Definitely get a suit and/or sport coat. Not sure I can recommend the shirts at this time.
Thanks for the input. Is $500 the going price, I was under the impression it would be significantly cheaper.... was there any haggling involved?
The materials and prints are high quality, so $500 is probably on the expensive side. Small amount of haggling. These guys didn't need to beg for your business.
Just came back from Thailand and saw many of these custom tailors. You can definitely haggle. Just lowball them and when they laugh at you, just walk away. They will follow you and get very close to your lowball offer. I didn't check the prices as I was not in the mood to buy a new suit. Feel free to PM if you have any questions.
You can get a lot of cheap suits there, but there are also distinguishable differences in quality. I got one from Pinky Tailors, which I really like. I definitely would recommend going to a place that doesn't advertise, as the ones that get their business through the tuk tuks generally are lower quality.
i had a tailor when I lived in China (2006) and had 5 suits made. They're all holding up great, and luckily still fit! Not sure about the quality in Thailand, but i'm sure you can find some good tailors / fabric there
Tips: choose a tailor that lets you see the fabric first, and if they have any suits hanging up for other customers check the quality, stitching, etc
I thought the rule was to have a HK or Bangkok tailor copy a suit, not make one from scratch. Otherwise you’re at risk for getting clothes that make you look like a bus conductor.
Best advice when 3rd world shopping "where are you from" = "how much money can I fuck you out of". Say you're from the poorest possible country that is believable. Then haggle aggressively.
I recommend Lord's Tailor in Sukhumvit, Bangkok. Got a 2 piece suit, sport coat, and shirt for $300. Very satisfied with quality. You'll see blowout deals in touristy areas like $300 for 3 suits, I'm told the quality is poor but can't say from experience.
Tom's on Sukhumvit Soi 8. Very nice stuff, good prices. Got 2 suits, a jacket, and 5-6 shirts there last year for around $1100, that included having most of it shipped to the US (kept one of the suits and like 2 of the shirts to wear on the rest of my trip, shipped the rest).
Make sure you set an appointment with them ahead of time, they'll come to your hotel and pick you up, there's another unrelated Tom's in BKK that plays the cab/tuk tuk driver game.
Not saying any of the other well-regarded places in Bangkok are bad or inferior, just don't have experience with them. What you DON'T want to do is get suckered by one of the dudes hanging out on the street to come into their shop. That's how you'll end up with cheap (both price and quality) stuff. Might be OK if you just want some shirts but definitely don't go that route for suits. Do your research ahead of time and head to either Tom's or one of the other well-regarded places. You'll pay more than the street guys, but still quite a bit less than you would in the west.
