Morgan Stanley Real Estate Investing (MSREI)
Anyone have experience with modeling tests for analyst/associate position here? They mentioned it would take 4-5 hours in total. Not sure what that would entail.

When I did it, it was only 2 hours.
Was this an analyst or associate position? Can you share any details about test and the process?
I tried PMing you but I reached my limit. I'm having the same interview in 2 days, can you kindly talk about the questions you were asked?
Anyone have insights on MSREI? I have an upcoming first-round phone call for an analyst position. Seems like they've been making a pretty big comeback recently
They are for sure doing better now but for those of us that were around last cycle they literally were the largest losing REPE firm of all time. It's ironic if you think about it because that is exact same time that firms like Blackstone made the most money.
Just google it and a seeking alpha article about MSREF will pop up.
Great point, and it's quite convenient that everyone forgets that the mgmt team managed to get a second life by forming Bentall Green Oak. Wonder if they shit the bed again with their heavy office exposure.

I'm in the middle of applying for MS's REI group, but they have two offices for SAs and searching WSO/their site/glassdoor isn't giving me much. Are there any notable distinctions in dealflow/recruitment/type of work between the two offices, or no?
Cant go wrong w MS.
I was in their power group few years ago. PM me for info on culture
Seems pretty simple to me. Do you want to live in NYC or SF?
e: shit this is a year old

Has anyone heard back after the MSREI SF SA first rounds last week? I haven't seen anyone really talk about them but I would assume a few people on WSO are in my position as well.
Hi ConfusedRE, just trying to help:
More suggestions...
I hope those threads give you a bit more insight.
I am interviewing with the Asset Management group in the Real Estate department.

Hi guys,
There is a job posting on my school's career center for a summer internship with MS REI. I have read some of the threads previously on WSO regarding it, but a lot of it seems outdated. I was just wondering if anyone had gone through the interview process recently (1st round and 2nd round), as well as their experiences over the summer. Are the interviews similar to ib interviews? (aka, walk me though a dcf, 3 valuation methods, etc)
Going a bit broader, after 2 years, I understand much of the exit ops are primarily going to be in RE. In that market, is MS REI considered a top group, or has it fallen in recent years? Where do most people in the group end up? FYI, this is for the SF office.
Thanks in advance for any insight.
I can't answer your first question but I can attempt an answer at your second. MS REI analysts still get strong exit opportunities. The group's reputation has certainly fallen from an overall investment track-record perspective, and they have had a tough time with their limited partners. At the same time, there are not many established real estate private equity firms that hire at the analyst level--MSREF is maybe one of three truly reputable REPE analyst programs. Other RE PE firms don't hold MSREF's investment missteps against the analysts, so for exit opportunities I think it's actually a great place to start.
What are the "three truly reputable REPE analyst programs"?
What’s the salary (base + bonus) for Senior associate / VP in investments in London / NYC?
BUMP. What is comp like at MSREI in comparison to their IB side?
Is pay inline with top REPE firms?
Any insight would be much appreciated.
Do you guys have any idea on the total comp at MSREI at analyst/associate levels?
Both London/NYC
Both London & NYC analyst comp is in line with IBD counterparts
Is their investment process more restricted because they're part of a bank? Vs standalone REPE funds?
bump. any insight on the associate modeling test? superday season approaching...
If you don’t mind me asking how long did you wait before they gave you the modeling test?
Any insight into the first year analyst modeling test or interview in general? Best prep advice?
2hrs, take home, simple Acq
Should take u 30 without formatting
Did you have to build waterfall returns? or was it a true acq model with just typical metric calculations?
These guys have been interviewing for nearly 7 months now …. If they haven’t found what they’re looking for since then, especially in this job market, then I think that says more about them than the candidates ….
Thats an interesting point. Do you know if they have waterfalls in their modeling exams?
does anyone know if their analyst recruiting has kicked off
Hey All,
Interview process for Morgan Stanley Real Estate Investing has started for ASO1. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the modeling test? Wondering what to expect. Should be coming out sometime this week or next.
I did the test last cycle. Can share it. But only willing to do so for 1k. Also, acquire at your own risk. They could change it for this year.
lol no
Haahhahahahahaha cant tell if this blokes serious
Comp has to be poor at MS if you have to sell it lol
