Formula for Success

I am currently a sophomore at a very small private school. It is considered a "prestigious" school in state, but most people out of state have never heard of it. It did get the 19th rank for USnews' Northern Universities-Masters Top Schools. I have a 3.9 GPA, and I am majoring in Business Management with a concentration in Finance. I don't work, but I do volunteer at the hospital every other weekend.

I am sort of a non-traditional student. I was in the military before I went to college (computer operator), so I am a little older (23).

I am a little worried about getting my foot in the door. How do I land those internships? My school does not have any business clubs (well it does have a club for pr). It has two honor societies: Omicron Delta Epsilon and Sigma Beta Delta. At the moment I am not a member of any on campus organizations. I have made Dean's List the last two semesters. None of the big banking employers recruit at my college.

I am going to stay at my school and get my MBA. My school does not require work experience before getting your MBA. Would it be wise of me to take a break and work in between my undergrad and grad school? Should I take the traditional 2 year break to work as an analyst? I live about 30 minutes away from Washington DC. Does anyone have any advice for networking, other than going to my career center?

Thank you in advance.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what are the best prep books for the GMAT? I'm looking to do the self prep thing if it's possible. Thanks.

Employers want MBAs with work experience. Plus the MBA education will be more meaningful with some biz work experience. I-banks love military- work 2 years, get an MBA, and enjoy slaving away for a BB.
