London Bankers - Are (dark) brown brogue derby/monk strap shoes acceptable on casual Fridays?

Hi all,

I'm joining a bank in the risk department starting this coming summer (I note this because I presume casual Fridays are likely more relaxed in the middle/back office).

I intend to wear something along the lines of chinos, a shirt, and a navy jacket, so as to not be ostracised by my colleagues as that one cunt not in IB showing up in a full suit (although, of course, I assume in IB credit risk, there would be occasions on which a full suit would be necessary).

Is pairing this attire with a pair of brown shoes acceptable? Do bankers generally wear brown shoes on casual Fridays? I've heard everything from needing to wear toe-capped black oxfords to people wearing converse shoes. Does this differ between the City and Canary Wharf?

Thanks for the input!

It's heavily bank dependent, some banks now have a sort of relaxed dress code every day when chino + shirt + non-sneakers are the norm while some others are still requiring full suit and tie every day. I now see people wearing t-shirts on Fridays while this was not allowed in my previous bank where a shirt was required at all times. Typically both front office and middle office share the same dress code. If you join a bank where Mon-Thu is full suit, I think your idea works fine. Sadly, a lot of people wear brown shoes during the week too so It's not going to be a problem for you if you wear brown shoes on Fridays
