WTF do you do if your weight changes constantly?
My weight swings between 180 - 200 every few months and as a result I've had to buy way too many clothes.
The reason my weight swings is just due to my training cycle and having the clothes tailored again usually gives like 4 - 7 lbs of flex in either direction but it's never quite enough and it sucks when your brand new Isaia suit doesn't fit anymore.
I suspect I'm really fucking stupid and there's a better way to go about this?
Check out performance shirts thread. What’s in there might help since the clothes stretch with you. PaY more upfront. Also for belts check out mission belt.
If your weight regularly changes by 9kgs I would go get a check up to make sure there isn't an underlying metabolic component. Just to be sure
It's from working out. When I switch to 2x a day, lift heavy and eat a lot then I tend to get heavier.
I’m in the same exact boat as you. My weight fluctuates 190-220 and it sucks. I get my clothes custom made down in studio city. Suit jackets: can always button standing, shouldn’t button sitting anyway so I end up fine Shirts: I have two sets. My slim shirts and fat shirts. Yes, it sucks. It’s a lot of money. But I haven’t found an alternative. Pants: side tabs, sometimes suspenders. Belts hurt my lower back (I have back issues). Suspenders sometimes look weird but whatever, I feel like I can rock them so therefore I can (that’s how that quote goes, right? Lol)
Amazing workarounds.
maybe reconsider stop bulking and just focus on being lean all year round.
bingo. you're an entrepreneur clearing 7 figures (you've said as much here). you training for a competition? if so, why? either be like Thor year round or just try to maintain a weight. you'll feel much betterand it'll be easier to buy clothes.
I hate looking like a sm0llboi
Define "few months", if you're cycling from a bulk to a cut in under 3 months then you're doing it inefficiently and succumbing to "yo-yo" dieting. Your first objective should be to get to a lean enough point where you can eat slightly above maintenance caloric intake (say 100-200 calories above) for at least half of the year. That should only net you like 10-15 lb gain and from there you should only be losing like 10 lbs on the cut and again, you can stretch out the process with a small deficit.
Also note: If your diet is a shit load of carbs and sodium, the majority of those weight swings are going to be water.
Every 4 - 6 months or so and not too dramatic. Definitely losing bf. I don't dirty bulk either but I use caffeine/ephedrine when cutting which works ridiculously well.
You mean when you have to cycle your "supplements"?
Definitely not on juice. Can't afford to be unable to think clearly. :p
It's called an intake/expenditure ratio. I weigh myself 3x/week and adjust caloric intake accordingly. Not rocket science, but common sense.
I personally had my suits/shirts custom made 1-2 months in a bulk (after a cut), so my suits are kinda fit in the middle. When I lose weight everything is still fine, when I gain some more I can manage and the suits still look great. I agree that the gymlife really is a hassle for people who have to wear suits and cannot come by wearing t-shirts all day.
How much of a weight swing was that? What about more formal jeans?
To be honest, I always try to lean bulk so my weight swings are around 6kg/~13lbs.
My weights swing around as well 175 to 215 lbs (40). I made about one suit (+1 extra pant + 1 dark jean + 1 khaki), and about 3-4 dress shirts at every 5 lbs interval and hang all the clothes by weight intervals.
This is kind of where I'm headed right now. Looks pretty unavoidable. Oh well. How much +/- do you get out of suit jackets/sport coats? About 10 lbs sound right? Any advice for when they are initially tailored?
About 5-7 lbs interval as well. But for informal jackets (blazer/ sport coats), I tend of buy off the rack stuffs on sales and get it tailored a bit. Don't really like to spend too much money on it. The most I paid for a customized blazer is about USD 125.
i still wear the same 15.5/16" collar shirts as i did at 80kg or so as i do now at 90kg (change over 2-2.5yrs). Thankfully many of them i bought several years ago when i was even bigger. Thankfully i used to work out 24/7 a few years ago so it mostly looks like a long bulking session rather than a beer gut. gonna start working out again and slim down and keep the same shirts. thankfully work in corporate and shirts in good condition so dont need to always buy new ones. although they do look a bit tight...i just suck it in when walking around.
As someone who has struggled with this nature of fluctuation before, I feel your pain.
One thing to keep in mind is to develop discipline on diet. I don't mean eat like a health nut every day, but cutting carbs to a super low level really reduced that weight volatility. It takes discipline at first because you feel miserable from eating less, but once you're used to it, life is good. Also try to incorporate walking in the daily routine. I live about a mile from my office and walk when the weather isn't terrible. Round trip, that knocks off 150-200 calories (depending on your weight).
I know this is attacking the problem from a different angle, but it at least keeps you consistent
I eat very disciplined, it's just cut/bulk cycles. Workout twice a day atm, etc...
Stick to a diet and have a workout routine on lock down. Nothing extremely restrictive, but something mostly cleans sustainable over the long run. As for working out, a good 30-45 minutes of intensity works wonders 4/7 days. Just remember more than half of this battle is in the kitchen. Don’t mean to sound like a total gym bro, but this has definitely helped me over the past year.
He doesn't fucking need advice on how to eat clean / less... hes asking for tips on the managing clothes side of this problem that about 80% of you don't seem to understand...
Anyways... my thoughts are you should just take a hit and have a couple of shirts / jackets made for each 10ish lb interval... you make enough and if lifting is a passion / priority (which it seems to be) then make room in the budget for it...
This*. I go from 175 to 190. 15lbs isn’t a huge difference but enough to notice in the fitting of suits. I keep a few suits and slacks for my heavier times
Thank you for understanding. The weight thing is 100% on purpose, and I have 0 intention of looking like some 90 lb soyboy. Started doing that on the jacket side now, just feels a little wasteful but I guess there truly isn't a real work around.
