Rain and Shoes
So given it's supposed to be a monsoon in NYC this week I wanted to poll everyone on what they do when it rains, specifically what do you do to not ruin your shoes?
I have galoshes, but I also have a pair of rain shoes that I wear if it is going to be crappy out. Given that there is going to be 5 days of rain this week I can't just wear this one pair of rain shoes. What does everyone else do?
PS I care because I invest about $200-$500 per pair in leather dress shoes.
I would just wear the rain shoes for 5 days, who's going to notice? Who's going to care? Just give them a quick clean / polish when you get to the office and you're fine.
Otherwise, you could take your nice shoes in a bag with you and get changed in the office.
I live in the midwest and use galoshes for snow and rain. Seem to work well for me even if they make you look like a 65 year old.
gotta go with the SWIMS: https://www.swims.com/mens/galoshes/
also be sure to buy red yellow or orange so most people know you spent more on galoshes than they did on their shoes
Have never heard of this brand before, somehow...thanks for this, loving some of their shoes on the site at least.
I was debating swims because of the colors, but now that you said it(which is hilarious), I think you changed my mind.
in all seriousness, in my infrequent travels to NYC and Chicago (usually put up in nice hotels), ostentatious overshoes are more common than you think.
I'm partial to the orange, bc Frank Sinatra
Cant you get a spray which makes all liquids run off the shoes? I dont know if this damages the shoes in the long term though. I personally dont wear my shoes to walk around with as they are far to expensive for shitty London roads.
I use this black rubber spray. Its pretty good. It waterproofs my shoes and the bottom of my pants. The rubber does not come off the pants though.
Or the shoes.
No leaks though!

I wear my nikes to work when it rains and then switch to my dress shoes as soon as i get to my desk. not worth it to ruin $500 shoes
$15 galoshes FTW.
Just wear Chelsea boots. They look good with suits and if it splashes, it won't get your ankles wet.
I got a pair for $30 at Nordstrom Rack
Here's a pair from Zara:
(they are probably going to be $50-$60, I wear them in the rain, they are fine)

This is what I used to do in the snow/rain in NYC, and it seemed to work well. I used to like Charles Tyrwhitt, but they started doing rubber soles, which is a no go for me. I have a pair from Two Boot NY now that I like.
The Kurt Geiger ones posted above look cool.
Ohhh haha, I thought those were Zara. Yeah I thought they looked good/clean; they are more expensive. I had a pair from Zara that looked like that.
I don't like the Zara ones on that list especially as that leather looks like 'casual wear', which doesn't really go well with suits.
But, in general I have always liked the Chelsea model. There is a lot that you can do with that design and they are versatile as you can wear them on a hot date with jeans with some chick, and chicks love boots like that.
So would anyone do duck boots and have a pair of nice shoes under your desk for the office?
I would for sure do this if it's snowy
This is absolutely the move
Yes. Without a doubt. LL Bean. Flannel lined.
Definitely keep a pair of dress shoes at work or in your bag and wear either rain boots or worn down gym shoes. No need in ruining such expensive shoes. No one will be looking at your shoes if its storming out anyway
Rain galoshes - there are varying levels of quality. I can't recommend a brand but that's what I would use if rain was an issue for me.
Found some success with Detrapel: https://www.detrapel.com/
I just bought a spray in spring to put on your shoes to protect them from rain. It works fine with my Sneakers and I also have an extra one for my winter (leather) shoes (:
What did you end up getting? I got soaked in yesterday afternoon’s delude and am looking at galoshes now…
After wearing rain shoes for 2 days in a row I went and ordered swims. If i find a cheap pair of chelsea boots I'll make those "new" rain boots
What Chelsea boots do you guys find hold up well in rain?
You wear ugg boots in the rain?
