Help with what to wear tomorrow?

Hey all, this is my first post after a lot of reading around for weeks and it seems that I should have posted this a few days ago. Tomorrow I have an externship with a trading firm. I went out and bought a suit the day after sending in my RSVP, and 2 days/500 dollars later I get another email saying the dress code is business casual. First I was worried that the suit is too dark of a navy color to look fitting, and now I'm a bit bummed that I won't get to wear the suit in the way I had expected. I was wondering what your opinion would be for what to wear, because it seems to be a sin to be fully professional at a casual dress event. It seems that my options are either wear a tie and no jacket- so just navy pants with an off white shirt blue tie and brown shoes or just take the tie off and not button the top button of the shirt. Sorry if this is a long winded post but I'm pretty nervous for tomorrow since it's going to be my first time ever in this sort of environment. I want to make sure I look good but not like I'm trying too hard or look stupid in front of the person that got me a spot. Thanks for reading everyone.

for a business casual event I usually wear a navy blue dress pant, white shirt, brown shoes, and tie (depending on weather - if it's too hot, skip the tie otherwise wear any that you have.) I wouldn't worry too much about the dress code

I attended an event a few months ago that was twice stated as business casual, about 60 kids total and 40 were wearing full suits... the other guys weren't underdressed, but it's not fun to feel like you are.

I would lean towards a tie with no jacket and take the tie off at lunch if you feel you are overdressed.

business casual can mean a lot. at my job, i just wear slacks and a button down and in the fall i wear a blazer. wear a suit with the tie and if you see everyone not wearing a tie, take it off when you get there and worst comes to worst and if you see them without jackets, just take it off. alwaysssss go slightly overdressed vs under dressed. no one can ever ding you for that

Never leave the house wearing a tie without a jacket. Never. And please do not do a mid-day take off come on. Don't act like you touched dress clothing for the first time that day.
