Broken hand causing awkward interviews
I'm a sophomore non-target Finance major and have been really lucky with landing a lot of interviews with decent firms. Honestly, this is a dumb question but where else could I ask it.
Problem is I broke my hand in a casual fight with a friend recently and have had a really hard time coming up with how to play it off to employers. I've been saying it was a snowboard accident but most interviewers have been skeptical when I tell them that. It's pretty obviously a boxer's fracture.
How could I play it off better without sounding like a fuck who punches hard stuff.
Just wrap that lil arm more with some fresh bandage for interviews so you can't tell which part of the hand is broken.
Massive arm*
With the way my fingers are bent in the cast, I don't know if I'd fool anybody.
Wrap it with bandages and say car accident. You got rear ended hard and slammed into the guy in front of you, and you jammed up your hand on the steering wheel.
I think you're really in your own head about this. The more you think about it and stress over it, the more interviewers will pick up on your weird vibes and the more awkward it will be.
Sports injury? Maybe you are an amateur boxer? Will most interviewers honestly even know the difference? Just 1) come up with a brief, credible story about it, and 2) say as little as possible about it and then shut the fuck up. Hold you hand in your lap for the interview (rather than on the table) to reduce the attention it draws and just play it cool. I guarantee that you are thinking about it WAY more than they are.
Come up with an interesting story. Sell it. It's an instant identifier, "the kid with the cast", for better or for worse. Make it for the better.
