Do you think Tesla and other electric cars have a future among elite circles?

Everybody knows about Ferraris, Porsches, Jaguars and the like. However, as times have changed, so has the concept of electric cars. Seemingly an impossibility a decade ago, electric cars now are slowly emerging into the market. For a long time, Tesla kept falling short of meeting demands for electric cars, making it seem like the luxury electric car was out of question. However https://www.cnbc.com/2019/07/02/tesla-q2-2019-pro… remarks that Tesla is starting to stabilize itself. Assuming Tesla is able to meet demands, and similar cars are made do you think Tesla type cars will hold a place among elite circles?

Well if they truly want to compete with the luxury cars they have to have more premium interiors. Compare the S Class' interior with a Tesla. There's no comparsion.

Ferrari, Porsche and Jaguar are not in the same tier, unless you're talking purely classics. Tesla isn't looking to join these realms, they want to be an electric car for the average person. The roadster is interesting and I can definitely see it being collectable, but they have to deliver one first.

I guess I'll split with the group. In California the answer is already a resounding "absolutely yes." At the very least, I would say Tesla is positioning to be the upper-middle-class daily driver. The only real competition is Porsche. Between the Tesla Model 3/S/X, and Porsche's 911, Panamera and Cayenne/Macan, it's hard to find a well-off family who doesn't have at least one of the above.

The Tesla is the go-to "everyman's car" that practically every wealthy Californian has, particularly since it blends in and virtue signals, as well as having the automation and performance features on top of that. Seriously go drive around a relatively nice neighborhood and it's absurd - Tesla, Porsche, Porsche, Tesla, both. It's also a common car for middle/upper middle class to buy their kid. If Tesla could have reliably produced more cars faster, particularly over the past 5 years, they would have sold all of them. Their only concern should be quality control and ramping up production so that Porsche doesn't convert all their cars to electric first.

Of course, the rest of the country and the world is a different story. Somehow Tesla has become political (???) perhaps because it's from California and a segment of the country hates electric cars for whatever reason. Obviously the car can't only pander to a certain market.

Personally I believe hybrids are a more effective stopgap for a large segment of the population who wants the convenience of having both electric and gas engines to do daily driving and road trips. I'm shocked that Honda/Toyota don't have a wider range of hybrids available for 2019/2020 -- in the minivan segment they were beaten to market by Chrysler with a plug in electric hybrid! What is going on?

Be excellent to each other, and party on, dudes.

I mean a lot of wealthy families had Priuses also. Teslas are just the new Prius.

Once European cars get better tech for their e-vehicles, people will be all over those.

That’s only because the only other comparable options are the Prius or an i3, which is ugly as sin.

The i8 or Taycan end up costing multiples of a Tesla (if you’ve ever had to get a Porsche serviced, you will understand) and the tech on the European cars isn’t reliable yet.

Teslas are just popular because they’re the best option as of now. Just wait til there’s an electric G wagon and the suburban moms will be all over it.
