Corporate RE to Commercial RE
Hi everyone,
I'm currently interning with a F500 company in their Corporate RE group where I'm doing a lot of work related to acquisition and disposition planning, restacking, facilities management etc... the typical corporate real estate stuff. Before this internship, I also worked at a small investment firm that specialized in single-family properties (I did modeling and market research) as well as a smaller cre brokerage firm (think deals less than 5MM, I helped with data entry/formatting OMs and market research).
My end goal has always been in acquisitions or asset management, although I have been thinking lately that when I apply to full-time jobs it will be difficult to translate my experiences into an investment analyst role. I have been networking quite a bit and also include a work sample I made (development pro forma model) in my cold emails, which has been a huge bonus thus far. I'm very passionate about this industry and would like to think I do well in interviews in terms of my story, why RE, and technicals. I am also majoring in finance and RE at a decent school.
My main concern is.... how do I go about translating my experience in corporate RE and at smaller firms into an investment analyst role? Do you see this happen often in CRE? Have any of you personally found success in going from corporate to a commercial IA?
Any advice would be appreciated!
