UK Private Debt Analyst - Concerns about becoming a generalist

Hi WSO,

Background is as follows- 1st Class at Top UK University, Internship & Graduate scheme at same institution (large private debt business part of an insurance co. so not IB but well-known name on the buy-side) and now an analyst within their Private Debt arm (2 yrs out of university in total)...

We have an analyst "pool" which means my deal sheet so far is a broad mix of private ABS/Mid-Market Credit/ABL mostly direct lends (end to end origination/UW/execution). I'm happy with the experience I'm gaining, getting to work fully end to end, building a solid base in credit, and gaining responsibility quickly on deals.

My concern is my marketability if I continue as a generalist? I note associate roles within the large private credit names are all likely to be specific (i.e. mid-market leverage credit focused).

Would be great to hear thoughts.
