Credit Analyst Exit Ops?

Hey All. Was wondering if anyone could share some insight into some possible exit ops for a Credit Analyst at a mostly CRE portfolio community bank (about 60/40 CRE/C&I)? Obviously on the lending side things are a lot more vanilla, but was wondering if any of the experience is transferable to the equity/dev side or other roles. The Analyst to PM to Credit Officer role just seems too boring. Thanks in advance!

This is roughly more or less what I did recently. I was a credit analyst role at a smaller lender doing both new deal underwriting and PM work for existing loans. Though I went into a new asset class that didn’t have anything in common, the experience overall helped me a lot in my transition.

Your experience is transferable to the equity/dev side, but I'll leave it to others to talk about how to make that transition.

As far as the lending side, you've only described credit/underwriting. Don't know if you've thought about the originations side. You could also explore other capital provider roles, mezz at a private equity fund, or a role at a commercial mortgage brokerage. In some of these shops (depending upon the team) they're placing traditional debt, mezz and equity.

One other thought is that if you can't find an immediate spot outside of commercial banking, you could look for a role at a larger bank that has a dedicated CRE team.. Your skills will grow as a specialist while you figure things out.
