Career Resources
One just needs to accept it as an inherent part of my life IMO. Shit will happen to all of us as we age - we’ll see our loved ones go away, friends die, maybe hit a rough patch in our career. Once you’ve conjured up all the possibilities in your head, you are mentally prepared to tackle them. Of course it’s never the ideal situation....I also like to think that when I am in my late age, will the stress that I am facing today be burdensome On me? If not, then I try it not to weigh heavily on me
For me, just being more sociable / meeting new people helps - main reason being it helps you maintain perspective and keeps your mind stimulated. Also, there's the low probability that someone might help in some way. It's downtime for me at work, feel free to ping me if you wanna chat
I'm not that prone to stress, but I notice that I cope better with the pressure when I am physically fit and eat healthy. Have you tried doing any kind of competitive sport? I find it to be a better stress reliever than lifting weights.
This is a tough issue. Most people won't admit when the stress is affecting them. They want to seem immune to it. If the stress isn't affecting someone, they are probably not really aware of the risks they are taking. if it is affecting you physically, try a therapist. There is nothing wrong with asking for help, no matter what your peers might say.
The best thing has been an environment where I have genuinely supportive friends and family. Whenever things are going sideways it's nice knowing I'm never really going to hit 0.
Gym, eating well, etc all have helped a lot too.
I think this is important: you are never going to hit zero (and if you are at risk you are making bad bets). No matter how bad it seems, it is going to be OK either way. it is tough for friends and family to really understand the pressure. It is unfortunate peers in the industry are loathe to talk about the stress and fear they have; it would make it easier for everyone.
Btw, did you say you were in HK? Couple ktv nights can't go wrong -
For me, together with the stuff mentioned above, being aware of your historical perspective and realizing what's truly important in life has always helped.
Making long term goals and working towards them will at least help you feel like its worth the trouble of enduring stress. If you feel like what youre enduring will pay off and get you to that next level its a lot more palatable. If you do not feel that is the case, focus on doing something that will :).
Other great destressers are sex, alcohol and Ive found video games.
Alcohol is a fake crutch some people use to deal with stress to put it off temporarily until it blows up and they can't handle it, so they resort to more alcohol.
If you're stressed and want to feel numb, alcohol is the answer, but it is not an effective coping mechanism to deal with stress.
Perspective & time to decompress doing something you enjoy
