Megafund P/E compliance how to move into other departments in P/E or IB?

I’m currently in compliance at a top megafund P/E and want to break into IB or P/E. I have been doing compliance since I graduated, I took the first compliance job right after I graduated to support myself and I’m still in compliance. Do I need CFA or MBA To break in

Background:
Non target finance undergrad
Compliance at Bloomberg
Compliance BB
Compliance megafund now
Graduated 17

Im certainly not the most qualified person to answer this, but I'll through my 2 cents considering people are just throwing shit at you and I feel a little sorry.

IMO, it's just not possible (or at least absurdly difficult). Being in compliance, you are basically just the narc of the financial services industry, and about as qualified as an HR person in the eyes of the front office professionals. You know nothing about a deal process, possess none of the hard skills required, have not been vetted for work ethic, etc.

If you want a chance, go get an MBA, do your best at breaking into IB as an associate, and take it from there.

People are probably throwing MS at him because he already has a similar thread where some members have already responded to his query: https://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/how-hard-can-you-move-internally….

Probably also doesn't help that he's been talking about how compliance is a better start than IB, or shit-talking IB in general... only to now ask people how he can move into IB / PE. So he's either a troll, or in denial re: his role and ability to transition to front office.

But yes - agreed - OP can try and move into IB after doing an MBA at a reputable, respectable school that places in IB. He won't be able to do it directly. The other alternative is you find some small boutique IB to take you as a junior analyst and work up from there, but the MBA is more likely.
