As a huge car enthusiast this makes me unbelievably happy

Yeah - thank God Bugatti has some style and the car is an absolute beast rather than some lame 1 seater pencil just pushing for speed.

I did not think I would see a production car hit 300mph for another few years. Very happy to see this happen.

Although I was rooting for CVK to design something for this feat personally

Very although I wouldn't really think stability is much of a differentiating factor from the other big names - the Koenigsegg guys have a crazy stability system that they posted testing videos of on youtube. Cruising along at high speed with no hands on the wheel and it stays in a dead straight line, and then they violently turn the steering wheel left and right literally trying to spin out and it doesnt let them.

This is undoubtedly very cool, but I think it warrants mentioning that this wasn't done by a production Chiron. There were significant changes to the body to improve aero, different exhaust system, the engine was different, the interior was stripped significantly, no passenger seat, etc.

That said, it really appeals to me is that the transmission and AWD system were left stock, which speaks to how robust the car's stock internals are. Great looking car, and great achievement.

This was one of the Chiron Super Sport prototypes; they will release a production version capable of hitting these figures. I honestly love this sloping missile design on the rear end so much more than the plain Chiron. Didn't really like the car until now.

If they will, that's awesome. However, until it actually happens I'll chalk this up as being in the same vein as the Nurburgring record set by the "WRX STI" 2 years ago. I put the model in quotes because it also had been modified pretty heavily in order to put up the lap time and was very different from the actual production version of the STI, and I think Subaru called that a "Pre-production prototype" as well.

Honestly, I'm not sure how willing Bugatti would be to release a car without a passenger seat, with a roll cage, and a stripped interior, given that they pride themselves so much on providing a classy driving experience with all the modern amenities alongside the crazy performance.

I'm also fairly sure that without taking all those steps to reduce weight and enhance the car's tuning, they probably would not have gotten to 300+ mph. That said, the car's aesthetics are great and I'm sure performance will be awesome regardless of what happens between the "pre-production" and production versions of the car.

Not Impressed, the Veyron/Chiron is just a big sled designed for setting speed records and driving around Monaco at 10MPH. Everything's also taken care of by the electronic safety nannies. Give me a McLaren F1 over it any day. 240 MPH in 1998 with a naturally aspirated engine, three pedals, and not even ABS. (Their only modification: removing the rev limiter to get another 10mph) The thing weighed less than a Miata of the same year, but had 600+HP:

The thing though is the Chiron isn't trying to be something it's not. Bugatti doesn't ever talk about what this thing could do around corners or on a track. It's a luxury missile for all intents and purposes; and that's how they market it. Like someone said above, it's how well put together this car is that makes the record impressive imo.

That being said, I'd take a McLaren F1 over it any day.. who wouldn't?

You're acting like cruising around Monaco and being able to go 240 MPH is a bad thing. Auto nanny bad Manuelle nanny good. Enjoy your brown 5 speed E46 wagon

I bet Koenigsegg is super pissed off saying they had the world record at 278 mph. At 300 mph+, I'm sure Bugatti said you will run out of fuel before the tires literally burn off. Plus, the sound system literally has diamonds in the stereo. The tires cost $40,000+ for a change, they even literally fly out an authorized Bugatti mechanic to fix your Bugatti.

I've actually been shopping for a manual CTS-V wagon, but thanks. Diamonds in the stereo does sound like BS. McLaren also flies out mechanics for the F1.

Good friend, I am both a Bugatti and Mclaren fan. It's just the exclusivity of the Mclaren F1 that makes it so rare and that I wonder if someone would constant maintenance on the vehicle. The strangest Mclaren was the Mercedes SLR. The strangest Bugatti was the EB 110. Those Mclaren F1 are so rare, I highly doubt anyone would sell in the market. Bugatti and Mclaren are both great car manufactories of the vehicle. ; Bugatti produces 500 vehicles per the Veyron and Chiron, I don't what what Mclaren is producing but it is very rare.

I don't think anyone with a Chiron will bring it into a tuner shop such as Hennessey or Underground racing or Gemballa will bring it to them. Once you upgrade the car with parts that are not 100% manufactored by Bugatti, you lose warranty and it no longer considered a "Bugatti". They consider the car modified and upgraded. Devell sixteen from U.A.E claims 5000hp with 0-60 in 1.8 with 347 at top speed.. I don't think that is possible nor is there a production version available to customers.
