Chill Senior Year or Take More Finance and Accounting Classes?
The title pretty much says it all. I don't have too many classes left to graduate. Should I try and learn more technical information, or just take "Easy A" classes and chill? Thanks in advance!
Depends. Do you already have a job offer lined up for when you graduate?
Yes I do.
Then it's completely up to you.
If you dont take them... who cares? You already got the offer. But if you do take them, maybe you'll learn something? Even if your GPA slightly declined they probably wont rescind your offer. Long story short it doesnt matter so its up to you and makes no difference
Thanks for the help! Would it look bad to other banks/buy side firms or business school if I went the easy A route?
To be clear its not the most prestigious firm, and nor do I see myself staying there forever, but I think its a solid middle market investment bank to get started at.
100% chill. Road trip with your buddies and generally have a good time. You're not going to have this much time and flexibility again until b school.
Take classes that are interesting to you, not ones that are career oriented (assuming you already have the business basics).
Consider studying for gmat
I was in your same shoes. Had offer, and I decided to take harder accounting classes. At the end of the day they were more annoying to deal with. I learned alot, but at my school the classes were structured terribly. Which made them hard to go to.
Thanks for you insight. Would you say that you use the information that you learned in those classes pretty frequently on the job? And did taking those classes detract from getting to do other things, like socialize and expand your network?
So one of the classes was super helpful (advance accounting) and the other two (portfolio management and audit ) not so much.
If your going into senior year you already know how to play the game of school, so for me they didn't take away from everything I wanted to get done. (Aka I drank more than I did my previous 3 years and still got above a 3.7 that semster)
Take it easy and live up your senior year, but only if you already have a job lined up. This is the last year until you have to turn into a real person with real responsibilities and less freedom.
I dropped by second major and took extremely easy classes my last year in college. Don't regret it one bit.
Take it easy, try to improve your GPA if you can (for B-School down the line), and if you have any extra time do some excel / case study modelling practice. No one cares how many accounting classes you take.
Study for GMAT if you think you may be interested in Bschool. You have plenty of time to do so before you become a working professional where your time becomes comprised between work and other responsibilities.
In hindsight, I would have taken it a bit easier for my last year of school (it was such a hectic experience for a variety of reasons). My best advice is to take a middle ground of some finance and accounting classes but not to overload on those types of classes since you already have a job lined up post-graduation.
Be careful - I took my hardest class my last semester in college and eeked by with a D. I had maybe received 1 or 2 C's before that and all the rest of my grades were A's and B's. Shit was super stressful thinking I might not be able to graduate due to that class.
I see. It looks like the consensus is to go the easier route. Would you not have taken it, looking back?
literally does not fucking matter. relax.
nobody will ever look at your transcript and know you did more work.
