Morgan Stanley vs McKinsey vs BCG
Got some doubts about which offer should I take:
An internship at Morgan Stanley London (Could be both off-cycle or summer) at IBD, without knowing in which group would I be placed.
A full time offer from McKinsey
A full time offer from BCG
Taking into account that I like both IB and MC, which path would you choose, my goal is to not close the doors, would a 1 year stint in McK or BCG close me the doors of any major IB or the other way around?
Thanks in advance
Would 100% say go with McKinsey. If it was MS IBD FT vs McKinsey FT I'd say go with what you like better i.e IB or MC. McKinsey will open so many doors down the road.
Agree, Mckinsey is the GS of consulting. You could literally even go to MF PE if you so desire (albeit a bit tough battle).
You could probably also easily lateral into IB (might have to take a year back though).
So in case I would like to lateral to IB I should try to do it as fast as possible (in less than 1 year?) or should wait till MBA or becoming an associate consultant? I really dont mind going taking a year back to be honest, would like to understand which would be the best move in case I dont like consulting
This is McKinsey and it isn't remotely close IMO. This is similar in the sense to a Harvard vs. Wharton thing. Yes, Wharton is likely better overall for a career in finance. But the generality of Harvard as a brand versus Wharton as a finance brand allows flexibility.
Also, the IB spot isn't a job offer? McKinsey and call them today.
You mean that MS is much better than McKinsey or the other way round? Or that McKinsey holds a much better branding in order to gain flexibility?
MS is an offer for a 3-6 months internship and no idea about the group, whilst BCG´s and McKinsey´s offer is a full time offer.
I mean it as MS is great for finance for sure, but McKinsey allows the flexibility to transfer to another industry.
Think of McKinsey like a call option.
Although question first, are McK and BCG both strat consulting, digitial consulting, implementation, etc. etc. What team is it for? If McK or BCG is strategy consulting then the order is for SURE:
McKinsey Strat Consulting BCG Strat Consulting McKinsey Digital Consulting MS IB (If it was a full-time guaranteed offer) McKinsey Implementation BCG Digital Consulting MS IB Internship BCG Implementation
.
This is a banking forum and everyone is saying McKinsey. Take it and don't look back. You would really regret taking an internship and it not converting. Also you can always pivot to banking with an MBA and likely could lateral without if you wanted.
As much as I do agree with you, I found that most people I've met (yes relatively small sample) at McK's London office fairly bland and boring. But again this will depend and some people would fit there.
You like both IB and MC? Bro, this sounds so pretentious. Do you like megafund even more?
Just chill and go with the less risky one
McK.. only because its FT offer
