Opinion on suit

Hi all,
I am having some difficulty deciding on a suit. I am a college senior and getting ready for the recruiting events. I went over the different forums here and I know that many of you think that Express lacks quality. However, I can not afford the buy the $1k suit from Brooks Bros.

Here is the link:
http://www.express.com/catalog/product.jsp?produc…

The suit is somewhat trendy and I am not sure if it is going to be acceptable by recruiters.

My other alternative is to go to a suit store (read: Men's WearHouse).

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

As a college senior nobody expects you to show up wearing Hugo Boss, in fact if you did I'm sure a lot of people would simply say "oh thats nice his rich parents bought him a fancy suit."

Go to somewhere like Joseph A. Banks while they are having a sale, pick a suit, a nice wso/">shirt and tie to match, and make sure everything is tailored and fits correctly.

Hugo Boss? Nice suit? Give me a break. Hahaha. If that's the epitome of "nice suit" in your mind, then you've got some learning to do.

I will say Jos A. Banks is okay, though. Bang for the buck, you can't go too much wrong with a Brooks Brothers Fitzgerald when they're on sale, though. The entire 1818 line is pretty decent, although which choice within that depends on the individual person.

Also, you can get pretty good MTM wso/">suits for roughly the same price as a regular-price suit at J. Crew. OTR is overpriced and over-rated much (if not most) of the time, and that doesn't even count the additional money you need to spend on tailoring.

OP: All in all, remember this first and foremost--fit (both to your body and to the firm culture) is by far the most important thing you need to consider, not brand name.

wow, didn't think I had such a bad taste. lol.

what about the pattern (the squarish looking pattern of the fabric)? Is that also bad? I like the pattern, but I was told that it is better suited for older (late 30's) men. What pattern would you suggest? And, should I avoid any trendiness (fashionable) when looking at suits?

Again, Thanks for the advice.

The pattern itself is fine. The problem with the suit is that it will be of horrible quality, and likely glisten. No one in finance is really going to mind if your pattern is conservative. As for going "trendy," that would depend on your definition. Half inch lapels are a no-go. Something less in your face, like a slightly trimmer cut, is fine.

Go to Jos A. Bank while they're having a sale and tell the guy working there to help you out. You goal should be finding something you can be confident in, without even a little worry it may be over the top. Clean and classic has always been my preference.

Your best bet for cheap suits (And if you search the forum, you will find tons of info on this) are Brooks Brothers (particularly the outlet), Men's Warehouse and Joseph A. Bank. I would consider looking at the Outlet malls (ex. Woodberry Commons) as you can get good deals for cheap.

I like the wso/">suit. I think it's nice, but I don't think it will score you points in an interview, as the wso/">suit is a bit bright for my taste. The fact is, Brooks Brothers suits are decent quality. You are not getting a Zegna, but you are getting something that will last. I have a number of their suits in my wardrobe, and at $300, if you use the Suit Separates, you won't break the bank. With Jos A Bank. and Men's Warehouse, you need to search to find something good (like my friend who found a gorgeous cream colored wso/">suit that you could wear in banking by Sean Jean), but you can find great things there at reasonable prices.

jackdaniels has the right idea. also dont forget the biggest mistake people make - not matching their belt with their shoes. check out the dollar store for a nice white belt to match the aldo loafers.
