SIG Research Associate
Has anyone ever interviewed for a full time research associate (undergraduate) position at Susquehanna International Group?
Is it highly technical?
Will they ask a lot of brainteaser questions, like they do of people who apply for the Assistant Trader position?
Again, this position would be for a person just coming out of undergrad.
Thanks.
I have the same question for an upcoming interview. What type of brainteasers/probability questions will they ask for an Equity Research position, if any?
Just brain teasers that will make you think. They also ask poker questions like how many should you should bet if you have this hand.
Here's some on glassdoor.com
What is the expected value to you of the following game: You and another person have 3 coins each. You both flip all of your coins and if your three coins show the same number of tails as the other person, you pay them $2, otherwise they pay you $1.
You and your opponent take turns choosing numbers from 1-10. How should you play to get 60.
A submarine has two missiles that each have a 1/3 probability of hitting a target. Both missiles are fired at a target. What is the probability that at least one missile hit the target?
If the chances of you seeing a meteor outside within one hour is 84 percent, what is the chance of you seeing at least one meteor outside in 30 minutes.
Questions about dice rolling. Can roll die max 2 times and get whatever value is on the die on your last roll (be it first or second). What is expected value.
You have five pirates, ranked from 5 to 1 in descending order. The top pirate has the right to propose how 100 gold coins should be divided among them. But the others get to vote on his plan, and if fewer than half agree with him, he gets killed. How will the coins end up being divided, assuming all the pirates are rational and want to end up alive?
Just wanna see if I'm right about the dice question. we wanna get the highest value possible. start from only 1 roll: e1 = 7/2; if the first roll is over 7/2 (from 4) we stop; otherwise we keep rolling. so e2 = (4+5+6)/6+e1*3/6 = 17/4 right?
Did you guys have those interviews - how were they?
SIG Equity Research - 2nd round Interview (Originally Posted: 06/17/2015)
Hi All,
I have a round 2 interview with SIG in one of their equity research groups. The first round was a phone interview with the HR, and the 2nd round is going to be an in-person interview with the hiring Analyst.
Does anyone know what to expect in this interview? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
I would be ready to pitch a stock to the Analyst and tell about any personal investing you do.
Thanks kts1010! Appreicta it
Anyone else who has interviewed at Susquehanna for Equity Research ?? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks everyone!
Last I heard they were laying people off from research. Maybe they are rebuilding?

Hi everyone,
I have an upcoming first round phone interview with Susquehanna International Group for an entry level equity research position and I was hoping for some idea of what to expect. I have used the search function, and no one seemed to answer the question of the interview process specific to ER.
What kind of questions can I expect for SIG ER? I understand they love brain teasers/probability questions for options traders, but should I really expect something like that for ER too? Also, any general information on the ER department in the firm in terms of comp and career outlook would be appreciated.
Thank you
You should definitely expect a brainteaser.
No, there probably won't be a brain teaser for ER. I know from experience. It should be like any other ER interview.
I know from experience that traders aren't the only ones who are asked brainteasers at SIG. Good luck OP.
Thanks for the responses. Total did you interview with the ER group or another one? I know my friend interviewed with their PE arm and said he got slammed by an unexpected brain teaser but I'm wondering if anyone knows more specifically about their ER interviews.
I did not interview with the ER group.
I interviewed with their research department. Made it to the final two, but wasn't the one to get the offer. They're all very nice there. I was asked basic accounting questions, any stocks I was currently interested in, a lot about why ER, and why should I be given the opportunity to work with them. Good luck.
Absolutely you will get a brainteaser (I got 3)

Have any of you guys interviewed for or worked as a Research Associate at SIG? There is a good deal of information written about their trading and quant positions, but not much about the research associate role.
I have an interview coming up for this position - any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys.
My friend interviewed with them for a gig in China. I believe you will either have to write up a research report during a session or you will have to submit a writing sample. Either way, i would definitely suggest on trying to get a research report from SIG and reviewing how they conduct their analysis.
Thanks BudFox - that's helpful.
Any chance you might have any insights on how the first round of interviews was like for your friend? Seems like in their trading/quant positions they grill you with brainteasers and whatnot. You think it might be the same drill with the research role?
Thanks man.
Not sure, I can ask him. I mean, if its equity research have some stock pitches ready. Absolutely know the valuation techniques and accounting methods to normalizing earnings. The only reason my buddy even got the interview was due to his progress in the CFA program. If you haven't already I would probably sign up for an exam.
Thank you BF.
I am honestly a bit far from the profile you describe... They are pitching this position for "recent undergrads". I wonder what the expectation might be. I am coming out of the University of Chicago with an extremely theoretical Economics degree - can't say I am well versed on valuation techniques or accounting methods... tough call.
Either way, if you think your friend might have any insights, I'd certainly appreciate you dropping him a line.
Thank you.
Hey BudFox - any input from your friend by chance? Thanks for reaching out man!
Is it on the distressed, corporate, and convert desk? there were 4 people on the line for my phone interview: hr and the three desk heads. they asked me about distressed debt investing, cap structure questions, general economy and what i'm seeing in the marketplace. They also asked me for a basic and complicated model that I've built.
