Now that the MBBs are open for Summer 2022 internships, I thought I'd make a thread so everyone's up to date. Does anyone know whether applying for the summer deadline rather than the fall puts applicants at some sort of advantage?

Hi friends. Recently left MBB after spending 2 years after college there. Always thought it was helpful reading Q&A when I was a student thinking about career-pathing, so wanted to offer this up. Busy in a new job, so will respond when available and might close this thread up early, but for now, please ask away. For context: Target college MBB big US office Based in the US Obviously please keep questions professional and I will try to provide as much insight as possible. Won't reveal anything though that is too personal. Still care about anonymity.

Hey everyone! I've recently accepted an ACI offer with Bain in one of their main offices (non-NY). I absolutely love Bain, the people, and the office as well. However, I would like to end up in NY sooner rather than later to start my career. How feasible is it to transfer to NY within Bain after my ACI experience? Otherwise, for optionality, how do McKinsey/BCG view applications from a Bain ACI? Does this increase chances of an interview or hurt them? All help is greatly appreciated!

Hey guys, Thought I'd start another thread for those of us APDs/ADCs (read: spent too many years in school) who are applying for full time positions either earlier this year in the Spring (BCG) or now during the Summer. Let's try to provide sufficient data so it's less confusing: Current location(Northeast/west/south)/institute(target?): Firm(s) applied (spring/summer): When did you receive an invite/rejection: Additional info (invite or no? when are they scheduling the interviews?): To start off: Current location: southeast + semi/non target Firm applied: BCG (spring) When did you receive an

Hi Everyone! Trying to decide between two FT offers, would really appreciate everyone's thoughts: Strategy& London (M&A) vs BCG Dubai. A few key point: 1) S&'s work is 50% DD for PEs, 50% Growth strategy. BCG is mostly public sector work in KSA. 2) Looking to keep open the option of PE exit 3) Comp: BCG is 2x S& (however, not key decision factor) 4) Looking to stay in London in the medium term Background: MSc Finance BSc Engineering (Top5-UK) Thanks :)

Hi! I'll be brief and please feel free to redirect me to the appropriate place if this is the wrong place. I have an offer at Firm #1. I have a final-round interview with Firm #2 on Friday. Firm #1 wants an answer BEFORE Friday, conveniently. Firm #1 does not know I'm applying to Firm #2. If I get Firm #2, I would likely take that offer (location). Both are MBB. The way I see it, below are my options. Please advise, any help at ALL is appreciated. Take Firm #1 offer and withdraw from Firm #2. Withdraw from Firm #1 and hope Firm #2 works out. Take Firm #1, renege if Firm #2 works out. Renege

Hi, I'd love to hear some advice from folks familiar with MBB's recruiting processes. I'm currently at a target school on the west coast with a history of sending undergrads to SF MBB offices (particularly Bain). I'm not sure whether this is due to cross-coast recruiting disadvantages or many students' desire to stay on the west coast. After spending the summer in NYC, I'm fairly certain that it's the city I'd prefer to live in post-grad, but I'm concerned that my candidacy won't be as competitive for NYC offices as it would be in SF. Does anyone know if there are material disadvantages to

Conventional wisdom here would suggest that you need to go to a M7/T10 school to give yourself a decent chance of making it to MBB, You can make it from a T15 school, but the chances are lower. However, I've noticed on LinkedIn that people from UW Foster (USNR #27) & UM Twin Cities (USNR #32) do make it to MBB (I'm not talking about sponsored MBB kids, but career switchers). Although it seems like they're always in the Seattle or Minneapolis offices. I'm not talking about 1 or 2. These schools seems to send a few grads to MBB every year. I know those are not Kellogg numbers, but what does that

From my understanding, the recruiting process starts in the Fall with applications due in August/September. However, there are also July deadlines for undergrads seeking full-time consulting roles at least for McKinsey snd BCG. I have no idea when to apply. Will there still be August/Sept application deadlines as well? Should I go ahead and apply in July? If it helps, I'm applying to NYC, another competitive east coast office, and then probably a southern office that I think is maybe at least slightly less competitive. I'm a social sciences major (not econ) at a low/semi-target school, so I

Hi! Can anybody please share information about the NEW Online Case Assessment - the 25-30 min long online test that features 8-10 questions and a 1 min video at the end (not the 45 min long one) I guess only very few offices are using this new test and therefore I couldn't find much info about it. I have my test scheduled for next week and will appreciate any piece of information or advice regarding the test's structure, type of questions, or anything else really. A lot of good Karma is promised to the generous helpers!

I first round interviewed for BCG off cycle post MBA consultant position on Friday late afternoon (3 business days ago). The other candidate that interviewed at the exact same time with the exact same people received an email rejection on Monday morning. I have not heard anything and tomorrow is Thursday. HR had told us they'll be in touch "early next week" but to "give up to 2 weeks." I can't logically reason why the delay given the other candidate was immediately notified and one of the interviewers left on vacation the next day, so any discussion had to have been had on Friday. I'm going

In deciding between MBB, would you guys offer any insights about differences between the three firms or things to think about while making a decision? All three offers are from the same city. McKinsey vs Bain vs BCG If you've worked hard enough to secure an offer at all three firms then congratulations. These firms are the most prestigious in consulting. All of these firms offer great exit opportunities and pay. However these firms still have their individual strengths and weaknesses. Lets take a look at each firm in terms of pay at the first year associate level. The following figures are

I'm a senior in a top school in Asia graduating in 2016. I've grinded through school, networked like crazy and completed internships in consulting, VC and Asset Management. I have an MBB offer in Asia (think Singapore/KL/HK) and a BB Equity Structuring offer in London. I need to decide between the two by end of January, and would really appreciate any advice on the pros/cons of either. In the long haul, I would like to end up in PE/value investing - where there's a mix of operational understanding and finance. The positive for MBB is the operational experience, but most of MBB Asia's exits are

For the last year I have been doing consulting for a small boutique firm focused on Digital Strategy consulting. However, I have the opportunity to move up to a bigger firm. I'm currently in the process with Deloitte Digital's strategy practice (Digital Business & Strategy), and also BCG Digital Ventures. I also have a preliminary conversation scheduled with Digital McKinsey. I would appreciate hearing the perspectives of people here on these three groups. Specifically on the type of work, the future trajectory, career progression, etc. Note: not looking at Accenture or anything of the non

Hi everyone, Long time lurker, first time poster. I'm a recent graduate with a double major in Bioengineering and Economics. I have a bit of an unconventional approach towards consulting: I've done a lot of bioengineering research (authored two manuscripts in peer reviewed, scientific journals) and also took quantitive finance classes throughout my undergraduate career. Since graduating, I've worked at a boutique healthcare consulting firm and continued the research part time(after FT) but am seriously considering moving into a more high-energy, real impact consulting firm (thinking of

Hey Guys, I'm trying to understand what differences there are between the BCG offices in the East Cost. I'm currently considering the Boston and NY office. I have been working in big 4 audit now for just under 3 years and have obtained my ACA. My contract with my firm end of 2020, but auto-renews and makes me assistant manager unless I choose to decline the offer. I want to move into consulting, I have spoken to individuals who have worked in companies such as Mckinsey / BCG, and the work seems so much more interesting compared to the mundane life of finance audit. The pay is also seemingly more attractive there... Anyone have any idea how I can position myself to move into top tier consulting eventually and perhaps when would be the best time to

Just heard back from the last MBB saying I am waitlisted and have to wait 2-4 weeks to hear if they have an offer for me or not. They never mentioned waitlist but just said they needed more time to get back to me. Any thoughts on what I can do to get off the waitlist at any or what the chances are? I'm from a target and high GPA, etc. I also do not have any offers from anywhere else at the moment. I was thinking of messaging my points of contact and the partners I interviewed with but I am thinking that might just be a dumb move since the partners are the ones who made the decision.

Anyone else have their decision round for BCG today? I was told to expect a call either tonight or Monday but haven't received anything so far so I'm just assuming the worst. Rounds were pretty rough for me just because of the nerves involved. Curious to hear if anyone has heard back yet. Still have a sliver of hope

I managed to get an interview at BCG for a generalist consultant position next month. I am currently in my 2nd year at a second-tier consulting firm. Wanted to get some advice from members on how to best prepare for both fit and case interviews. Its been >3 years since I last interviewed for consulting (went through B-School recruiting and got a summer offer which I converted to FT) I am guessing its going to me a combination of books and online resources. Would love to know where to focus on given the limited time I have to prepare. For fit, I would like to primarily focus on "Why BCG?" (i.e

I'm new to this forum (in the posting sense - been reading it for a while), and was hoping I could get some advice. I have a friend that just got a job at Disney's Corp Strategy group and seems pretty excited about it. I have been pretty interested in Technology and Media myself for a while, but was planning on originally entering consulting to figure out what I wanted to do (I'm currently a junior thinking about career opportunities for next year). The disney job seems pretty exclusive and do some interesting work (Strategy & M&A work in Media). I wanted to see if you guys knew anything about the opportunity and how it stacks up against other opportunities in the consulting space such as McK/BCG/Bain.

Interviewed several months back as an experienced hire two years out of undergrad. I made it to the final round and was told I was ranked very but my performance one case was holding me back. Was encouraged to try again in six months. I really enjoyed all my interviews and have a great feeling about BCG and am grateful to have made it so far in the process. Can anyone speak to the likelihood/prospects of being successful a second time? It seems many who make it very far as summer associates are successful when applying for full-time but my situation is a bit different. They gave me very

did anyone attended any of these two events? Would the participants in these events get invited to the first round interview at these firms ? Or they are required to submit a new FT application and go through the process like any other candidate who did not get invited to attend B2BCG / Mckinsey insight ?

I am not a fan of political threads, but I found this link in WSJ PE Beat this morning and I think it raises some interesting points. Such as: Romney is good at cutting the fat and I think that is what our government needs, but to disagree with the author, how would that not benefit ALL Americans? I would be interested to hear everyone's thoughts. -SCR Here's the article from the LA Times:

I will start with a couple assumptions and conclusions I have reached through my research and would greatly appreciate any corroboration or corrections you guys might have for me. Georgetown as a whole would be a low target to a high semi-target for the overall financial services and consulting sectors, correct? Now, what kind of recruiting/niche areas do MSB and SFS get separately? Most of the data and opinions I have seen point to SFS doing better with consulting and MSB doing better with IB. Is this apparent difference due to the preferences of the students in each respective college or

tldr: what's the MBB to PE interview process like? I've seen some WSO content on going from MBB to PE and the concensus seems to be that MBB to PE is possible. However, there doesn't seem to be much content on WSO regarding the actual interview process from MBB to PE. I'm curious what it's like and how (if at all) it differs from the IB to PE process. Especially with IB to PE recruiting happening so much earlier than in the past, have comparable changes happened with the MBB to PE process? Mainly curious about the process for PE deal teams (most comparable to IB to PE) but would love to hear

Apologies if this question seems a bit naive but wanted to get this forum's opinion on educating oneself on certain topics in order to hold better conversations with longer tenure colleagues. As a 22-year-old analyst I'm not super interested in or knowledgeable about luxury cars, cigars, watches, fine liquors, golf etc the list goes on. Have people faced this issue before? If so what did you do to address it, e.g. should I start stalking watch and car forums? I definitely don't mean to indicate that people in consulting firms only care about those things-most people are actually pretty down to

Hi all, I recently finished the analyst program at MBB in a Tier 1 office (NYC, SF, Chicago, etc.). I was also recently direct promoted to the associate (post-MBA) role and accepted. I already have a BS and MS in Management/Operations/Finance/Engineering from a Tier 1 university (Harvard, Stanford, MIT, Princeton, etc.). I am unsure about long-term plans, but they could be one of the following: a) Stay in consulting for a while - at least till team leader/manager level b) Go to in-house strategy for a larger company (e.g. Fortune 500, Big Tech) c) Go to bizops or general

I have a penchant for asking stupid questions but here goes another one... I got an email from a friend of a friend at BCG in Dallas. I interviewed on a whim. Long story short got the offer earlier this week. I've been at a relatively large no name seed VC in NYC for a very short while. I love it, but I wonder how the lack of brand will impact me in the future. Long term, I want to move to a larger VC fund and go to B-school, in whichever order. Should I jump?

Recently I've been trying to break into consulting. I studied the sciences in college in pursuit of medical school and after careful consideration now want to go into healthcare management--for the obvious cost/benefits. I want to get into consulting to make headway and have been looking at the top consultancies--McKinsey, Bain and BCG. To make a long story short, after some networking I got a coffee meeting with the COO of Activision who used to work for Bain shortly and knows the managing partner in the LA office well. He forwarded my resume off to the managing partner in LA who forwarded it to the managing partner in Dallas--where I'm living at the moment. A recruiter got into contact with me and now I'm in talks for a possible opportunity.

Applied to BCG online and an employee also forwarded my resume. This was about 4 weeks ago. The online submission mentions 3 to 6 weeks for a response. What has been others' experience in terms of turnaround time after submitting application online with BCG? Just want to get an idea of the timeframe as well as understand when I should follow-up with the one who sent my resume in. FYI - applied for a post-MBA role. Am from a non-target. Thank you. PS: Apologies for posting again in this forum. I replied to another thread but noticed that it was in 'Get a Job' forum. I meant to post in the Consulting forum.

Hey all, Starting the negotiation process with my summer employer and I actually think MBB is a good comp, so I'm interested in hearing what the return offers for MBA summers were like at MBB this year. I believe last year it was 135 base and 25 signing. Can anyone with an MBB offer chime in? Thanks!

Hey, I had a question about the interview process for consulting, specifically for MBB. I've searched but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for, but if there is already a discussion on this, please post it and I'll be on my way. I am getting a Master's in Statistics at a semi-target. MBB recruits here, so I guess a "target" but non-ivy level for sure. I realize after getting an interview, a lot of your qualifications go out the window and it becomes a lot more about fit, but it seems more so for consulting. Is this true? Assuming I can get a first round, is the only way to get an offer just killing the case interviews? Thanks

Hello fellow monkeys, I have a few questions that i am hoping a few of you will be able to answer. I am fortunate to have a network of people can connect me to other influential people. The main question I have is what would be the most optimal way. I'll list the scenarios: 1) I have a close cousin who is a manager at Deloitte in the ERS division 2) I have a professor who went to a top mba program in Canada who has friends who are partners at some of the MBB. He said he was willing to refer me to them. 3) I have a pretty close friend who grew up with the recruiter at a mbb in canada. She also said she is more than willing to introduce me. Some overarching questions I have Should I try to meet with as many people from the firm I am most interested in or only a select few?

Hey WSO, I'm a rising senior at a non-target school majoring in Finance. I interviewed with Bain and BCG (Bain was 1 round and BCG was 2, didn't make it past the 1st for BCG) and wasn't extended an offer for their summer internship programs. Thankfully, I still have full-time recruitment coming up in 2-3 months and I'm pretty sure I can secure another interview with both firms since I interviewed with them for their internship programs. Besides practicing cases, what's the best way I can prepare myself for this upcoming recruitment season? I probably did about 50-60 practice cases prior to the internship recruitment session and felt confident going into and finishing each interview. Any advice, tips, reality checks, etc are welcome. Thanks

I've got offers from both for a summer internship (undergrad) in their respective London offices. I suppose I might have liked the atmosphere at BCG slightly more, but I just don't feel that a few interviews is enough for me to draw definitive conclusions -- everyone I interviewed with was lovely. Also, while I'd previously thought there wasn't a big brand difference between the two in Europe, I've recently been hearing the opposite. Has anyone got any opinions/advice for me? Possibly about the London offices in particular (major industries, atmosphere...?) Boston Consulting Group Compared to

Let's say you are newly hired MBA graduates of MBB with a salary of $135,000 in USA, and after one year of work at MBB, you decided to move to your MBB office in Europe (Paris or Berline for example). My question is: will your salary in the new Europe office be the same/equivalent as the original $135,000 in euro, or will this figure now be based on the "local rate" which are significantly much lower than the salaries of North America counterparts? It does seem like that the starting salary for MBB out of MBA in Europe is much lower than that of USA, so yeah...anybody has experience before?

As some of you know, I got laid off this week. Out of the blue and quite ridiculous but its in the past now. I networked a little and have been getting in touch with some people. My brother's brother-in-law is a principle at BCG and he provided me with some help. Through his contacts, I got an interview with this company called Expand Research. They're based in NY and are a subsidiary for BCG. I've never heard of them before and I havent been able to get in touch with my contact so I was wondering if someone can help. I need to get back in the game but I dont want to rush out and take the first job that comes my way. Does anyone know anything about this firm? Absolutely anything would be useful! Thanks!

Can anyone comment on the best way to transition from MBB (analyst level) to PE? I'm joining an MBB office in the fall and understand that PE recruiting generally happens very quickly after that (April/May). Would it be useful to learn/practice some financial modeling before I start work so I can even be considered for interviews? Anything I should be doing well in advance to prepare? Any advice or experience is helpful, thanks.

I have two interviews coming up with BCG on the same day in two weeks for a summer internship. At the interview, I will be presented case studies, just like any other consuling interview. I did some online research and I found that solving/tackling these case studies is extremely complicated as there are many different approaches etc. (as you probably all know) I am a first year undergrad business student. Whereas I passed the initial GMAT-type testing, I feel that I am going to an interview where I will be expected to perform on disproportionately high level. I am really scared now and I just wonder about that expectations BCG has from intern applicants. I know they are a top firm looking for top talent.

Hi guys, Thanks for all your help on these forums. I recently had my final rounds at an MBB firm. I can't tell how I did. I did have some structural mistakes but my math was solid. I am a APD candidate with an MD (physician). What does it mean if I haven't heard yet (6 days so far.) The other MD there got dinged that same night. I emailed the recruiter and was told that she will prompt the partner to make his call. Am I probably waitlisted? Should I follow up? Or is the partner just taking a while to call cause its a rejection. The reason I am antsy is because I need to send out my B-school applications and don't want to spend all the money if I don't have to. Any insight would be valuable. Please let me know. Thank you.

I recently went through the BCG first round assessment. In the office I applied to this consisted of an interview, a maths test and an 'online case' Has anyone else done the online case? If so, what did you think about it? I thought the paper was incredibly poorly put together. Being able to answer a question was completely dependent on whether you could answer the previous question(s) presumably thus skewing the marks by unfairly penalising someone who could not answer an early question relative to a late one. I really don't understand what it was trying to test. As far as I can work out, my test revolved around your ability to interpret and apply a page of acronyms. Perhaps they've identified this as an essential skill in consulting.

Hello, I recently went through one of the practice cases on BCG website. The case question is below. I wanted to hear your thoughts on the structure that people usually use for this type of question. There are 2 approaches: a) Structure similar to BCG approach b) Walk through various growth strategies (each being a hypothesis) while assessing market etc to see which would work best I think approach (a) seems to be more of boiling the ocean approach as it requires understanding what's going on and then recommend which growth strategy works best. On the contrary, approach (b) seems to be more of a hypothesis-driven where you are testing each growth strategy while understanding market, customers, etc. to either eliminate or short-list a strategy.

Hi Folks! I was wondering what is the best way to tackle this seemingly innocuous interview question - "Why BCG?" What things should I mention in my answer? Thank you very much! Why do you want to work for BCG? (McKinsey or Bain) This is a question that you will be asked in almost any interview with any consulting firm and you need to be ready to knock it out of the park. You should shape your answer to this question by reading about the firm and by speaking with people who are currently working there. You need to know why each consulting firm feels that they are unique and hit on those points

The following article appeared in MIT's newspaper yesterday and it was written by an MIT grad who worked for BCG Dubai and lost his job. The story explains that consultants at BCG Dubai force-fit analysis to conclusion, even when the conclusion was wrong. Some quotations from the article: "What I could not get my head around was having to force-fit analysis to a conclusion." "It wasn't just that I lost all motivation for my job; it was also that it is much harder than one would expect to do unsound analysis." "The conclusion may be wrong, but you still need to make it believable." As someone who is going to work with MBB, this article made me more suspicious of the value delivered by consultants to their clients. I was wondering if you could help me with these questions: - how widespread is this method of doing business at BCG? - do McK and Bain work in the same way? Thank you! http://tech.mit.edu/V130/N18/dubai.html

Hi everyone, I'm in the middle of a crossroads and have to make a significant difficult decision. I'll put you in context, I've been working in a B4 IT Risk advisory (think regulatory risk adaptation) role for about 1 year. Some time ago I was contacted by BCG to apply for a Knowledge Analyst role, and this week I was notice they want to issue me an offer. After given it a little thought I came with a list of pros and cons: B4 risk Pros: - It is consulting after all, client facing that probably I would not have at BCG - I've been involved in some process transformation pitches, and there are
