So I'm currently at a T50 school studying business administration and planning to transfer to schools like Cornell and Vanderbilt to study Econ next year. I have a decent GPA but lack of activities/work experiences in the finance/business field. I was just wondering if having an internship experience in audit at a Big Four (let's say PwC) would be better than a financial analyst intern at a small boutique a financial advisory firm (Goldenstem Capital), in terms of transferring to prestigious college for econ major and landing an IB job in the future. Which one will be more helpful for both a

Mod Note (Andy) - as the year comes to an end we're reposting the top Q&A's from 2015, this one was originally posted 7/19/2015. Spent the past 5 years working for a B4 firm in the Assurance practice and am taking a FP&A Director role within industry in the coming weeks. Happy to answer any questions.

I'm a big 4 audit senior who has been active in the campus and experienced hire recruiting process. I have experience with 2 of the big 4 firms. Ask about meet the firms, follow up emails/calls, exit opportunities, interviews ect.

Hey all, I'm looking to do Big 4 audit in a larger city (Chicago probably). I'm from Florida, so this is a bit of a jump for me. I'm looking to try something new and be in a big city with people my age rather than only families and old people, as well as some character. My concern is whether or not the hours in a larger market will be significantly greater than that of a smaller market. I've heard some say that in big markets you have one set big client, so you have a more typical busy season of 80 hours for a few months and regular season of 50, while in a smaller market you have multiple small clients, which leads to more randomly placed YE's, and therefore more busy season hours throughout the year, but then I've also heard the complete opposite.

I'm a Big 4 audit intern, just finishing up for the summer. Going into this, I was really pumped about my career prospects post-Big 4 (I know its kinda soon to be thinking of an exit strategy, but I'm playing the odds here). At my school, Big 4 audit is just about the best thing you can do, as we're a complete non-target for just about anything. My internship/FT offer was in a different part of the country (major metro). There are much more respectable target schools in this area for things like consulting, banking, etc. A lot of my fellow interns are either trying to switch to advisory (Man

First WSO post, currently an undergraduate at a mid-target school with a high gpa. Looking to eventually gain entry to an top 15 business school. Considering going audit at a big 4 (preferably Deloitte) as my school has an extremely high placement rate, but curious about the S&T/M&A option. Are S&T/M&A able to gain the same amount of experience with execs as someone in big 4 audit ? What are the hours/pay for big 4 S&T/M&A? Would big 4 S&T/M&A have a better change at getting into a T15 BSchool as opposed to big 4 audit?

There is a lot of talk on here about Boutique IB vs. Big 4 Advisory, but I want to pose a slightly different question. To be clear: by lower MM boutique IBD, I'm referring to firms like Piper Jaffray, Stifel Nicolaus Weisel, and other names the majority of people haven't heard of. Big 4 audit we all should know (PwC, Deloitte, EY & KPMG).

I have a decent GPA but lack of activities/work experiences in the finance/business field. I was just wondering if having an internship experience in private equity audit at a Big 4 (let's say PwC) would look good or a financial analyst intern at Marto-HG Digital Asset Group (crypto asset hedge fund), in terms of transferring to prestigious college for econ major and landing an IB job in the future. Hi, how can I know what makes firms unique, different or special that I can write on my cover letter? I go to the website and I find pretty much same thing across all firms, similar values, similar industries, similar this and that, and then they ask why do you want to work at this firm... When I talk to people who got jobs at big 4 and ask them why they chose, they would say because I got a job offer, not necessarily because of something special, so how can I do this?

Hi, I have been trying hard to get a job at any accounting firm, let alone big 4 but nothing. I passed all 4 sections of the CPA at first attempt even though I have and graduated with a 2.93 GPA in undergrad, but is that hurting me? Can they know the difference?? Isnt GPA important so that they know who can pass the CPA? Second, I still dont understand how to get a job with a big4. I bought so many guides on "how to get a job with big4" but nothing helped specifically.

Hey everyone. I will be starting a big 4 audit internship this summer and wanted to know if any former interns or associates had training materials from the firm. I am really just trying to get a handle of whats ahead and would really appreciate it. Thanks.

I'm a CPA about to be a senior (2 years experience) in big 4 audit and looking to try and break into one of the smaller PE or VC firms in my area. I'm actually working on an IPO now for a pretty large company which may help some. Going into IB is basically out of the question since there are none in my area and I'm pretty much locked into this area due to my fiance's job in the area. I know audit to PE is a serious stretch, but I know people who have done it and that is giving me some hope that it is possible. These aren't mega funds we're talking about. These are funds with a mix of some of your HSW as well as some non-traditional (big 4 audit, Asset Management, non target undergrads).
