Hi, so I've recently applied to a RE investment firm and they gave me this case study. I've been trying to read through some case studies online, but I can't find anything that is similar to the one they gave me. Basically, there is a target Office Building to be acquired with 1 year of renovations before being leased out to a tenant, and then an exit by Year 4. The property will be funded by equity, mezzanine, and senior debt. Now, usually, case studies provide the purchase price for the target property as well as an exit cap rate at the end to determine the returns of the investment. However

Have an upcoming case study with a MM this month and was wondering if anyone has any updated views on approaching the case study. Likely will be 4 hours in length and similar to ones discussed on prior topics with ~2 years of transcripts, 10-q/k's, etc. Is fine-tuning the model essential? I can confidently build a model within the 4 hours but plugging in the historical cash flows for the year is definitely a time killer. For instance, would skipping the quarters and just filling in the annuals for the CF up until the last few quarters make sense if I could spend more time thinking about

Hello all, Current MBA student here with an upcoming case study at Ares PE for a VP role. I've been told 1 hour for a case study and 30 minutes to review with a team member. No other detail was provided. Anyone have experience with what to expect, how to prepare etc? About me: M7 MBA (Columbia/MIT/Booth) did 2 years IB, 4 years at a L/S HF covering tech now looking to get into PE. Interviewed for PE back in banking days but has been a while since then obviously. Any and all help appreciated! Thanks in advance

Hi guys I'm about to go for a case study interview at a large PE fund in Asia. For context, Over in Asia most PE funds do both growth equity and buyouts (a lot of founder led businesses) I was told that the case comprise two parts (i) whether they should invest and (ii) whether they should do it via a buyout or minority stake investment via growth equity for a public company The case is three hours, and the expectation naturally includes a three-statement model and a short IC memo. I just wondered how would you model to include a comparison of both an LBO and growth equity case, given the

I'm a 4th year M&A attorney at an elite law firm looking to pivot into investment banking. I'm interviewing for a post-MBA associate role in Houlihan's New York office in their Debt Capital Markets group. I'm expected to perform a modeling case study over a few hours in my next session. Anyone have any idea what type of case study it will be? I can't imagine it would be restructuring. I'm concerned whether it will be DCF or LBO and where I should focus my studies. Thanks!

In preparation for a case study interview I came across the following question: Given is a company ABC, business plan assumptions for the next 5-7 years and a financing package. Question: Shall we Invest in the Senior Debt, Mezzanine or Equity of Company ABC? How do you approach this? Do you recommend mezzanine, debt tranches if the equity returns are to low, you see big downside risks, or how do you arrive at a recommendation? Can you recommend any readings on this topic?

I have managed to land a 1st round interview at BCG from a complete non-target by submitting the online application. It will be in-person, 2 45-min case interviews. I'm planning to study using Case in Point.. but does anyone have any specific suggestions on what to expect for BCG? I have never had or studied for a case interview before and nobody in my career services has been helpful either. Thanks!

I have two interviews coming up with BCG on the same day in two weeks for a summer internship. At the interview, I will be presented case studies, just like any other consuling interview. I did some online research and I found that solving/tackling these case studies is extremely complicated as there are many different approaches etc. (as you probably all know) I am a first year undergrad business student. Whereas I passed the initial GMAT-type testing, I feel that I am going to an interview where I will be expected to perform on disproportionately high level. I am really scared now and I just wonder about that expectations BCG has from intern applicants. I know they are a top firm looking for top talent.

Hey folks, First time poster here, so be gentle! I have an interview coming up and I've been sent a case study where I have to put together a buyers list with a few strategic buyers and one financial buyer. Here's the company/client: -Privately held -midwest US based -Current owner/president wishes to retire shortly after sale. Departure will likely create a senior management void -$75 MM revenue -$8 MM EBITDA -Manufacturer off plastic home houseware products, including plastic totes, plastic bins and a variety of other plastic storage containers -All products used in consumer applications -Customers are predominantly mass market retailers and home improvement retailers -40% of sales are to a single mass market retailer

Morning Monkeys, Many seasoned veterans of WSO will recognize a common thread posted by many prospective monkeys, "Help Me Solve This Case Study," where a prospective candidate will outline a given case study and their attempts for a solution. As many of us know, these case studies can give a potential employer insight into the thought process of the candidate but, the reality is, no candidate has ever been given a real life investment problem that a firm needs solved. Thankfully, Bridgewater Associates has recently released a report on the construction of their All Weather strategy, giving us

Long time reader of this forum, first time poster. Would greatly appreciate any insight on CIM Group and their final round pre-mba associate interviews. Has anyone been this year? Any color on format/length of their case study, general interview process, or other feedback? Can anyone comment about culture there? I've heard hours are longer than average and pay is below market. Thanks in advance. FM

I'm sure some of you have already read this but nevertheless, I'm posting it here anyway. GMO LLC Chairman and strategist extraordinaire Jeremy Grantham released another of his epic letters yesterday, and while bears around the world are trying to call the top of the commodity bubble, he begs to differ. Grantham alludes that we are now seeing a new normal for commodity prices, a sort of "peak everything" scenario that we all should open our eyes to. [quote=Grantham]"I believe that we are in the midst of one of the giant inflection points in economic history… ...Recognize that we now live in a

Hey Everyone, I need some direction here. I have been given a take home case study for an IB job interview. I am to do a valuation for a particular health care firm. Attached they have given me future revenues, COGS, gross profit, variable costs, unadjusted fixed costs, operating expenses, and EBITDA for the next 6 years. What's the best model to use in valuing. Initially I was going to use a DCF, but after looking closely I realized quite a bit of financial information was left out. What's the best way to go about this? Any thoughts would be helpful! Thank you!

I'm a consulting noob whose just starting to get serious about studying for case interviews. In order to get a good foundation, I've memorized pretty much all of the CIP frameworks along with Victor Cheng's Business Situation framework. I figured I would use Cheng's Business Situation framework as a back up when I couldn't really put my finger on what type of case it is, but I'm often confused which aspect to start with out of the 3C's and 1P. (Customer, Product, Competition, Company) I know a lot of people say that you should look at cases and come up with your own frameworks and such, but frankly I'm just having a really hard time doing so. As a result, I have a really difficult time solving cases that deviate (even slightly sometimes) from the frameworks I've studied.

I have a case study to do for a boutique asset manager I am interviewing at. I haven't build exhibits with this sort of focus yet and was looking for someone to point me in the right direction. The prompt is pretty basic: Put together a balance sheet, asset allocation, and 3 year statement of cash flows for a client. I was given 3 account statements, 2 brokerage accounts and a 401k account. Generating these for an org is one thing, but for an asset manager that works with individuals is where my questions come into play. Is there specific formatting that comes with building exhibits for a

Could anyone please explain what the JPM case studies/role play exercises are about? I've been told that a couple of years ago it was mostly valuation, but I would like to know what they look like today. Thank you very much in advance.

For a corp dev case study, how does one calculate return on investment (IRR, NPV, Cash on Cash, etc.) if the acquired business is integrated into the parent as opposed to acquired then exited 5 years later like in a typical PE case study. Would you just calculate the present value of revenue growth and cost savings?

Hi All, Made it to the 2nd round with an international VC and was given a brief case study to prepare at home. As I don't have too much experience with early stage/pre-revenue companies, would appreciate your thoughts / ideas on how to go about it. Basically, case is about a tech company requiring additional funding (there's some info on previous rounds) for finalising testing & commercialisation. The case is light on numbers, no P&L projections, only some high level info on capex/opex. No revenue info either, although some rough data points on likely price. I'm asked to give thoughts on

Hello fellow monkeys, I have been interviewing for a boutique PE Advisory . I have already gone through 3 rounds of interviews for their analyst program. the 1st phone interview and 2nd [with the SVP] went very well but the 3rd one [with a VP] I didn't do well with the fundamental analysis questions, However, I think it didn't raise a complete red flag as the interview continued for another 40 minutes. The day after the second interview with SVP, he put me in touch with the VP for third round and told me to ask any question I have from him in the meantime. I was told that if they decide to go

I'm making a lateral move within my company from operational finance/accounting to a FP&A role. As part of my application I have to do a case study. This is my first true "finance" role - take it easy. Case study is as follows: Given Selling company's P&L (3 years actual, 4 years forecast) - closing date on end of year 3 - and a PPT of investment opportunities/risks; value this company and make an investment recommendation. What's the right way to go about this? I'm in the entertainment business, not a bank so I don't think they're looking for something SUPER technical. My first thought

I am in the final stages of interviewing with a newer financial services provider, I have been given an assignment to give a presentation on a 1 page case study. I have 5 pages of a deck built, and feel I can talk to everything in less than 15 minutes. I don't want to drag them through another 15 minutes of fluff nor do I feel the need to expand the deck just to have more pages. Would 15 minutes of Q&A make me seem unprepared? Am I missing something?

Would like some advice on how to approach a case study interview question like this given a CIM and financial overview in excel: Create your own 5-year P&L projection and returns model for the company. On what economic terms would you take a 30% stake in the business (buying shares from existing shareholders)? Is it just building down to the EBITDA on the IS and standing by your assumptions given your opinion on the market/analysis of the CIM, with returns generated by projected EBITDA expansion and entry/exit multiples? Then seeing if the target IRR is hit on the 30% investment at end of Y5?

Hi all! I have just received a call from a Deloitte HR representative in response to my application into their Corp. Fin. department. Unfortunately I was rejected, but invited back into a case study test for a TS position. I would love some advice as to what I can expect in terms of a case study (2-2.5 hours) and what kind of exit opps I could have going into this field (admittedly most of the work would be financial due diligence. Any and all pieces of advice is welcome!

Hi all, I am in an interview process and have been told that I will be given a case study, and was hoping to corral some resources to prepare. I already have the WSO PE Prep Pack and generally have LBO model practices (not to mention that I am comfortable with my LBO modeling regardless). I am specifically interested in any resources for fleshing out the expectation around any qualitative document you would be expected to produce as part of this type of process. I assume that you are supposed to put together an abbreviated Investment Committee Memo in addition to a model, but if that

(Please move the topic if it's in the wrong topic forum) This upcoming Saturday, I have an interview for an on-campus student-run consulting group that does specialized consulting for businesses across the city where I'm from. I got an email saying that the interview will be a case study (probably randomized since 30 other students are interviewing for the group) and I need to look over it when I get to the interview 15-minutes before hand. Even though, I'm interested in going into IB, I feel like this "job" will kind of help boost my resume and give me more understanding about financial
