Hi, did anyone else get an email from DE Shaw about their virtual experience week? Is it like a diversity program that banks do and will lead to interviews, or is it just a chance to learn more? Also they stated that it is invite only-has anyone done this in the past and has it been helpful? Thank you!

Just starting out here and I'm thinking about recruiting for credit funds next year. What are some of the leading firms, and why do people think they're great? I've heard these names a lot but don't know much about them... was originally sold on private equity and so don't know much about what makes each credit fund special. What do they tell LPs about their "secret sauce" and how true is it? * Anchorage Capital Group * Apollo Global Management * Bain Capital Credit * Canyon Partners * CQS * Davidson Kempner * D. E. Shaw * Elliott Management * GSO / Blackstone * HPS Investment Partners * King

DE Shaw India Pvt. Ltd. operates as a separate entity in Hyderabad, India and claims to work on financial research and post-trade operations for the hedge fund. Every year they hire several undergrads from top Indian colleges, engineers for software development roles and econ/finance grads for financial research roles. Does anyone have any idea as to what their Fin Res department works on and what an undergrad joining it should expect?

Hi everyone, I recently applied to the D.E. Shaw Generalist Intern position and was invited to their superday in NYC after 2 phone interviews. I've never been to a superday before, so I was wondering if anyone has experience going through the D.E. Shaw Generalist Intern superday and what types of questions they ask. Will they ask technical questions? I have no finance/math major background and both of my phone interviews just had behavioral/fit questions, so I'm curious about the superday. Thanks so much!

Last week I received an email from DE Shaw inviting me to their "Coast to Coast Celebration" where it's a two hour party/networking event in NYC and SF for prospective interns to meet employees and get to know the firm. I was very suprised to recieve this email, considering I've never directly contacted DE Shaw before. I also do not attend a "quant hedge target school," being a student at Cornell. Does anyone know how these kind of firms find students to invite, and if the event is legitimate? I live a few hours away from NYC and am not sure if the trip is worth it. Thanks!

Hey y'all. New grad here set to start working as a SWE in a few months. I'm planning to work at my company for a few years and then attempt to crack a position as a quant at JaneStreet, DE Shaw, Citadel, 2Sigma, etc. The thing is, right now I'm currently working on developing my own automated trading system as a side project. I'm gonna start by putting only a little bit of my own money, but depending on how successful it is, I'm gonna start a fund (LLC) and put a lot more in it and pool in some friends' money into the it. Would I have to close this fund if I accepted an offer from one of these

Which one would you guys pick based on exits (MBA, more FO roles, etc.), learning, etc? They're all very different and there's less information on them. I'd like to stay within finance (ideally a more FO role at a hedge fund) and am open to business school. Not looking to go into IB or PE.

I currently work at a BB vol desk and been thinking about exploring opportunities at macro hedge funds. Haven't really built a professional network yet as I am still very junior. But I just want to gather some information about what those macro fund might look for in potential candidates. From what I've found (i.e. stalking via Linkedin), most junior macro traders at multi-strat funds like I mentioned above have a bachelor degree in math/CS/stats/physics etc. (Although Citadel tend to hire externally from BB and DE Shaw seems to grow their own traders) For I know quant trading at those funds

So I have a phone interview with DE Shaw in an hour, junior prop trader intern. I hear their interviews are ridiculous. I have been stressed out with finals/papers and haven't been following the markets at all. Also, I'm an EE major so I don't know the technicals. There is no way I can bs my way through the interview. Additionally, I want to do IB before I go buy side. Should I just let the interviewer know I'm withdrawing my application. Has this been done before? I know, I'm a freaken idiot -__-

Hey guys, I am a junior at a tech school studying a quantitative field, although I've developed a strong interest in finance in my college years. In the past week, I received summer internship offers from AQR, DE Shaw, and Morgan Stanley S&T unit. I also had a very good final round interview with Citadel, so hopefully I can have that option as well. I like quantitative trading, so I will most likely choose one of the 3 HFs. However, I heard people say that the exit opportunities for a quantitative trader is quite limited, especially compared to options offered by Morgan Stanley's name on the resume. I'm wondering what people on this forum think of these opportunities. Specifically, which of the 3 hedge funds could give me the best exit opportunities compared to MS. Thank you!

I hear this all the time when DE Shaw is mentioned. Supposedly, only 1 out of 500 applicants are offered a job. I know they're selective, but this just seems absurd. Does anyone know if this is really accurate?

DE Shaw are always advertising for Investor Relations roles (Associate). Does anyone know what the exit ops would be for a role like this? It's a great firm but I'm assuming that this would really only lead to a marketing / sales role down the line. Does anyone know what kind of people they hire? Job description seems kind of vague. Also, does anyone know what the salary / total comp would be like?

Hey guys - I have a second round interview coming up for DE Shaw's L/S group. I have been told it will be about 4 hours and will include several interviews with employees in the various groups within their L/S fund. Has anyone been through the process who hasn't posted in the previous forums? If so, could you please provide any insight on the process, what to expect, etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Please post or pm with any help or insight you may have. Thank you very much.

Does anyone know much about DE Shaw's Arcesium division? I can find that they're owned by DE Shaw and Blackstone but beyond the fact they're quite new, theres little published. Does anyone know anything about them?

Hey all, I have a superday interview with DE Shaw coming up. Do any of you have any experience interviewing/working there? I want to know what to expect so I can prep a little. Info for these HFs are hard to come by online. I'm interviewing for their rotational associates program. I had two phone interviews which were mainly questions about my resume, a bunch of fit questions and one real quick question about a real life business venture they had considered (wanted to know inherent risks etc.) Any feedback would be great. Feel free to PM me.
