I'll be starting my summer internship at an EB this summer. My background may have a pride flag and I'm thinking of taking it down for the summer to keep things "professional." However, it bugs me since doing so is basically acquiescing to what I perceive as the delicate sensibilities of traditional Wall Street. Would an employee's background be considered unprofessional if it represented another piece of their identity like ethnicity? I'm in an enormously privileged position and by willfully shielding my pride, I worry that I'm maintaining an archaic status quo at the expense of less

Been reading here that BBs have been strongly shifting towards diversity recruiting. Is this also the case for management consulting (especially MBB)?

As someone who went to a state school and actually had to bust my ass off to break into a Bulge Bracket out of school (graduated 2016) I have genuinely gotten exhausted at looking at extremely underqualified candidates getting offers thrown at them through diversity. It's universally known that if you went to a public high school, you essentially have to get perfect grades / test scores to even get into a WashU / UVA type school which isn't even in the upper-tier of Wall Street feeders. So basically unless you're a "diversity" candidate you are required to get perfect grades / test scores from

So here is my rant on diversity programs and all the complaining that happens (ironic because I am complaining..sort of) Also, I am a white male from a non-target SEC school who landed an offer at a BB, so take as you will. I am a firm believer that diversity is great. I do not believe that diversity programs take away opportunities from me, even as a non-target white male. Companies will choose the best candidates regardless of skin color more times than not. It is pretty simple- the best of the best will rise to the top, maybe not initially but eventually, they do. For example, I knew that

I know that some PE firms prioritize hiring female candidates due to having smaller representation from this demographic. Thoughts on whether such priority applies to Asian females as well (given how Asians in general are well-represented). For what it's worth (and based on purely my own anecdotal experience in IB), Asian females tend to perform VERY well at the analyst level. I know five people who fit this demographic, and even though not all of them came from finance backgrounds in undergrad, they're now rockstars at GS/JPM/BAML/etc. As a side note, I'm also curious to know if LGBTQ+ counts

A lot of my east asian male colleagues think that the finance world is unfair to them. On one hand they don't get that "white advantage", on the other hand, to reach diversity targets, firms try to hire more women. Is it true less qualified women get the IBD, HF, PE positions just cause they are women?!! Thoughts???

Hey all, Today I genuinely had the best luck in a long time, I found out about the BAML sophomore internship program a day before the deadline closed! However, I am a little concerned about wether the admission is rolling. My issue is, does rolling basis heavily affect those applicants that apply nearing the deadline? Thank you :)

Hey all, I see threads for earlier years of this but none for 2020 so I figured I'd get it started. Anyone have prior experience able to tell us what to expect? Where is everyone currently at with their applications? Who are you and what does your application look like? Anyone who maybe has applied and got rejected with friendly advice about what you did differently? What do we all think about the Pymetrics system?

Here we go again, boys. Diversity rant. Notice what I did there? I said "boys" because I'm sexist, right? Wrong. Am I sexist? Fuck yeah, if paying for everything and thinking (knowing) that men are better drivers is sexist. But no, I'm actually just speaking to my intended audience, heterosexual white men like myself, because I need some back up. How many of you have been working at your financial institution for at least 5 years and have noticed that even within that short time, PC culture has gotten wildly out of control? I was asked to put a trigger warning on a presentation that utilized

I'm creating this thread because I think that diversity recruiting is a powerful tool that is very much underutilized. Just about every BB has programs dedicated to diversity initiatives, many of which are targeted toward freshmen/sophomores. Knowing that you missed a deadline is absolutely the worst feeling, so I figured that I could give back to WSO by creating an updated list of every program. This thread is split up between fly-in programs, internship/scholarship programs, and recruitment organizations. Fly-in programs are essentially 2-day introductions to the firm where you get a chance

Hey guys, I'm doing a freshman diversity program at a BB this Summer (think Morgan Stanley, Citi, with their weeklong programs and whatnot, etc.). Obviously this isn't anything like an actual summer internship, but it's still something worth noting, so where should I put it on my resume?

Hey Monkeys, I'm a sophomore attending a semi target school. I'm Asian, which makes me disqualify for diversity events as I understand. But in my case, I'm the first middle schooler, high schooler, and college student in my family. soooooooo... do I count as diversity?

I am a diverse student at a high-ranking university, and I am curious if other people notice the same thing I do. Whenever I go to diversity info sessions or diversity programs/events, I constantly see non-diverse candidates there. Do others experience this too? Or, at diversity super days, do others notice non-diverse candidates? I would like to see if my experience is the same across schools and firms, or if I am an anomaly. It seems counterintuitive for firms to market diversity events and have non-diverse candidates, so I want to see if others notice this too. Please let me know!

Hey! I'm a freshman and over break I'm trying to apply for a couple internships for the summer. Does anyone know which programs are actually open? I saw a forum with like 43 different diversity programs but none of them are open. So if you know any diversity programs that are open for the summer or any other programs, please let me know!

Been asked to help with recruiting, but I was curious if any long timers in the industry at IB, PE, or consulting firms actually noticed a change in a company's culture after they hired diversity initiatives. In addition, I was curious if you noticed a change in incoming analyst classes, in terms of race, background, and school, since the start of these programs?

Mod note (Andy): WSO top comments - this one is from the post in response to diversity in investment banks. Click here to see more top rated comments You asked why there isn't more diversity on the street given that only 'average talent' is required. Here are my thoughts. One: We define diversity too narrowly. Race is not the only lens. We should also think about it in socioeconomic terms. Students from under-resourced communities are from every race. A lot of people immediately think "diversity" equals "black", but there are Hispanic, Asian, and white students suffering from educational

I'm a sophomore at a non-target and gotten so many emails from firms telling me about their diversity "insight" days with accelerated recruiting for next summer. I'm a pacific islander and most of the flyers say like "women" or "LGBTQ" or "Black/native american". Should I apply to attend these events anyway considering I may or may not be considered as diversity?

Was wondering if anyone heard back yet. Since PJT is the spinoff of BX, I imagine this program may be as competitive as the Blackstone Future Women Leaders Program.

I didn't know this was even going on, but apparently the EU may soon require boards to be 40% female. Britain is against strict quotas, instead favoring a business-driven approach. I actually can't believe this is an issue. The EU can actually get together to force diversity upon the private sector, but not to manage monetary policy. How exactly is this justified? [quote=NY Times]Still, Britain might be obliged to accept some aspects of the proposal after Viviane Reding, the European justice commissioner, dropped plans to punish companies that did not meet the 40 percent threshold. Ms. Reding

Hot take, but I think programs like SEO and MLT kill off a large percentage of nondiverse applicants in the recruiting process and give any slightly motivated minority the ability to attain a top tier internship. This year's SEO and MLT class have nearly 800 interns at over 80 top tier companies. Obviously these programs are essential to diversify talent in various fields, but as they grow more and more every year, I think nonminorities will struggle to compete with people in these cohorts. What are your opinions on this?

I am a current sophomore. I am applying to sophomore diversity programs for SA 2021 IB, and was wondering if you need to network extensively to get into these sophomore programs like you have to for normal junior SA IB programs (2022 for me). I know for junior year SA IB, people say talk to 5-10 people from each bank; however, I'm not sure if this would apply for sophomore diversity programs like Citi soph leadership and Early ID, MS sophomore diversity IB internship, DBachieve, Barclay sophomore springboard, GS diversity summits, etc, because the deadlines are so early for these and there are

Hi monkeys, I applied to BoA's Banking, Markets & IM Diversity & Inclusion Forum in NYC (4/10/19-4/11/19) in early February. A couple days after I submitted my application, I received an invitation to submit a HireVue application. I figured that was a good sign, so I went ahead a submitted it. It's been a couple months now since I submitted and I haven't heard back from them yet. Has anyone that applied been accepted yet?

I am a junior in college and I just found out that I was accepted to the Oaktree Future Leaders program. I will be attending the training session in person in the NYC office. Is anyone else planning on going/have any idea what this program is? I applied on a whim and don't have many friends in finance so I'm curious what to expect. I know from the description that it will culminate in some kind of case competition - but what exactly is the point of the event? Is it to recruit current undergrads for positions 2-3 years out of school? FYI - I am a junior at a target school and am interning at a

Hello, I am recruiting for SA 2022 IB. On Monday I received an offer from a MM. I am a diverse, "semi-target" candidate. The company gave me 2 weeks to decide. I am participating in the GS Possibilities Summit and I am waiting to hear back if I get a hirevue. I would accept the MM because I genuiely like the company, but I feel like I can land an offer at a more "prestigious" bank. I really like the experience I have had at GS. My questions are: 1. From those that have done the Possibilites Summit at GS, how is the process? Do I have a good shot if I know my technicals? 2. I don't think I even

Hi Everyone! I'm a rising sophomore at UMich and I got accepted into Morgan Stanley's Freshman Enhancement Diversity Program. Because of the coronavirus, the program was postponed to late August. I heard the program is a good gateway to getting into MS's sophomore analyst program; however, applications for the sophomore summer program are already open. I was wondering if I should apply now through the MS portal or if I should wait until the program to see if I get a super day that way. I feel like its easier through the program but I am not sure. Also, if anyone has any comments/advice on how

Hi all! I was accepted into several sophomore Pre-Internship/Early Insight/Diversity Programs and was wondering what is the purpose of these programs. Do they serve as a pipeline for summer recruiting, or are they more of information sessions? Would these be useful to put on a resume and if so, how would I go about doing so? Thanks!

I was just wondering if people of Indian origin count as diversity hires? And what really is stopping someone to say they are Hispanic if they are ethnic? Do banks make you prove that there is some lineage? Do people at the banks also know if you are "gay", or "lesbian" if you are successfully hired into the firm, or is that undisclosed information. Thanks

Hi WSO, just a quick question because there are so many banks and this all gets confusing. Are there remaining diversity programs still that are open or have not opened yet???

So Mike Pence is getting some criticism for having a policy where he doesn't meet with female staffers one-on-one. http://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-trending-39447921 I know a few senior guys who have a similar rule, and will keep an open door in their office or invite a male colleague along when there is a one-on-one meeting with a female. Their reasoning seems to make sense: for sexual allegations (true or not) you are essentially guilty until proven innocent, and it instantly creates a label/perception that you will never be able to shake. It can destroy careers and lives if it comes down to

Has anyone heard if they have been accepted to the JPMorgan Chase Freshman Experience Program yet? I did the video interview last week and haven't heard anything yet.

For global wealth management for MSSB, I noticed they have this diversity program that gets "diverse" people into internship positions. What exactly goes on during the orientation of a diversity program for the interns? And in what sense does diverse mean? As in specific majors that usually wouldn't apply to MSSB, racial makeup, or what? I heard a rumor that it is a special program geared towards getting African Americans, Hispanics, and other minority races in. Does anyone have an insight? Thanks because I am part of this internship!

I know many banks host 2 day diversity programs for sophomores recruiting investment banking-are there any buyside firms that do the same? I know Ares has a program for sophomores (or freshmen, not sure), and Oaktree has the Future Leaders Program for upperclassmen Do any other buyside firms host these?

Hello everyone, I have been recently looking on WSO, and I have found it super helpful to hear people's experiences in management consulting. I am currently a sophomore at a top target Ivy League college, and I am a first generation student and underrepresented minority. I have a pretty good resume for my year, and decent GPA (3.55). A year ago, I never even knew what consulting was. Now that recruiting season for junior internships is coming up this fall, I would really would appreciate any advice or help on how to make it into an MBB. I was wondering if anybody here applied for this program (particularly in Corporate & Commercial banking, because I think the IB program might have a different notification timeline) and was notified? With over 1,000 applicants I figure there must be a few here. They said in the conference call that the decisions would be rendered by this week. If so, did they reach out via. e-mail or phone for 1st round? Did they send out a rejection e-mail? I haven't gotten anything yet and am hoping I didn't give them the wrong e-mail or something

Would love input from UT Austin McCombs alumnus & BHP students. Most students, 80% (shttps://texadmissions.com/blog/ut-business-honors…) students in BHP are students from TX and see that they are all from similar background - academics and Extracurricular activities are also academic (what I see College Confidential). Wondering how good the academic experience will be if there is NOT the diversity that you see in U of M, Wharton or NYU where students are many different states? Especially for a Management degree where it is important for students to be

hey guys, i'm new here so there may have been a post on this in the past that i couldn't find in my search so forgive me in advance if this is true. i just had a question about diversity events for bb firms. so im a sophomore at a target and there are definitely a lot of diversity events and the like. technically i count as an URM since my grandma is african, but if you were to take one look at me, you would never guess that. so when it comes to these events, ive been self conscious to show up and have them kind of question me and think im playing the system. im not sure to what degree that

Soo.. I was nominated for the JPM diversity summit. I was told it's a networking/d**k swinging event for JPM as a company/brand, but that we would also get SA interviews for whatever sector we chose. I chose "Finance." Has anyone been through it before? What should I expect/what should I know? I have had 0 finance courses so i'm praying it's mostly fit... thanks. appreciate it.

I got invited to a BAML diversity forum but there is a potential conflict for me. Does anyone know if there are first round interviews attached to their diversity programs? I know their general apps don't open until July 1st but I was wondering if diversity recruiting was earlier.
