Hey Everyone, I am a senior at Michigan from a software engineering background with no finance experience. I applied to an AM FT opportunity because I thought it sounded interesting and FO high finance is something I always wanted to look into, but I thought my GPA was much too low (sub 3.0). I got an interview with a firm that serves institutional investors, with 150 Billion USD+ AUM and a derivatives portfolio worth a little less. The position would work with various asset classes and later, derivatives. The first interview went really well, and I was basically told on the spot I would be

So, I've seen a couple of threads on TAP and I can't seem to find a consensus on the firm. Like half the reviews are glowing and half are terrible. Is there anyone currently there, or has worked there in the past 2 years that can testify? From my own research it seems like they are a decent TMT shop mostly focused on telecom. Also, if anyone has any insight on the modeling case for the interview, it would be much appreciated!

Curious whether or not its worth looking through, because I've always assumed those postings are for immediate hire(or within a few months, max) than for them to wait a year before having you on board. Anyone have any exp/thoughts on this?

Hi all, It is coming near the end of the recruiting process for the summer of 2016. I currently only have a corporate development offer at a F500 in NYC (a FIG company, not TMT firm). It is not really well known, and I'm not sure I would be able to work on a lot of transactions over the summer. I believe I will definitely be doing FT recruiting again for IBD in the summer and senior fall semester, so I was wondering, what do you all think is the best move for me this summer if I wanted to pursue IBD full time? Take the corp dev offer, or should I try to get an IBD internship this summer at a

Basically, got a return offer at a solid tech boutique in San Francisco, but I was expecting the New York office which is the only office I can work full time for personal reasons. They aren't budging, and originally told me it was "99%" chance I would get NY for full time. Because of this, I did not FT recruit during the summer, and now not many good shops are left. I've always been interested in coding. Even if I can't become a full fledged software engineer, I would still love to possess that skill. There's a bootcamp that would require a semester to complete that a lot of my friends went

1. What is the full-time recruiting timeline? 2. When do the background checks happen for FT? I ask this because I want to include my grades from first semester of senior year.

Background: Non-target junior interning in the Finance division of a BB(MS/GS) in NY this summer. Which firms/ type of firms are open to hiring FT Investment Banking Analysts without prior banking experience? I know it will be nearly impossible to do so at BB and Elite Boutiques. I am looking at MM's and boutiques but would like to narrow my focus for networking purposes. Any general advice from anyone that has made this jump would be much appreciated as well. Feel free to PM if that makes you more comfortable, I would love to hear your stories.

Hey All, Long story short - I received a couple of FT offers this fall. Unfortunately both are in strategy consulting, which I am not interested in. I applied to these positions because they only required a resume , and interviews turned out favorable. I really want to break into IBD, and came up with three options: 1. Accept a consulting offer -> MBA -> IBD 2. Decline offers -> continue searching for FT opportunities in IBD 3. Decline offers -> extend graduation -> SA -> FT IBD My concerns are: 1. Are there any FT IBD interview opportunities late fall & early spring? 2. Has anyone deferred a job offer by a year?

Hi, I read a lot of threads about people wanting to move from IB to corp strat, however, my situation is somewhat the opposite. I am a rising senior interning in corp strat at a F500, wanting to break into IBD FT. Is corp strat considered to be "competitive" experience when recruiting for IBD? Unfortunately, corp dev (internal M&A) is a separate department at my company so my experience is much more related to consulting than banking. A bit of background on myself, if it matters: - attending a top target school - Ok grades (3.5 to 3.7GPA) Any insight would be great! Thanks, guys.

Hi guys! Kind of a dilemma here: I am currently in my final year at a German target school (though "target" does not mean the same as in the US over here) and have a non-BB M&A SA gig lined up. My final goal is to work for an elite boutique or a BB in Frankfurt. The problem: I basically have two options: 1. Go for FT recruiting this summer/autumn with solid M&A, Valuation and TAS experience, solid grades (top 15-20% of the class, though nothing special) and good interview skills (i.e. usually getting the offers when being invited to first rounds). The problem here is: no "stellar" names like GS, MS, etc. on my resume, just a large MM bank and Big 4 companies.

Hey all, I'm trying to get to a BB FT, coming from a semi-target. I'm confident that I'll be able to get interviews in the fall through networking, but I was wondering what summer experience would be best for FT recruiting. Right now I'm looking at: RBS/RBC, Jefferies, BlackRock, decent MM boutique for IBD. I assume BlackRock's out of the question (the rest of my options are IBD) because an IBD internship would be the most relevant for BB FT. Thanks for the help!

I have a query about past internship experience required in order to get called for interviews for full-time analyst programmes at bulge brackets and the top boutiques in London. Realistically, is it necessary to have done an internship with one of these banks previously in order to be considered? i.e. if applying to a bulge bracket, is it necessary to have completed an internship at another bulge bracket or top boutique? Or would an internship with a MM bank be considered sufficient? Any insights much appreciated!

anybody know any headhunters or recruiters in the west coast? i'm looking to go there full time and am having a tough time finding any contacts.

I am a junior at a target school (not an ivy) looking for some advice on what job would best set myself up for FT BB recruiting in the fall. I have a decent GPA as an engineer (not great) and good experience before this, and I interview well I have been told. Right now I am deciding between: 1. Prestigious MM PE firm with over $500m in AUM and everyone that works there came from top groups elsewhere, it is just smaller in terms of # of people (think 15-20), which makes me worry that banks on the street might not have heard of it and discount it on my resume. No opportunity to join FT as they only recruit former banking/consulting analysts

Background: -West coast target, but for FT I'm willing to go anywhere, even outside the U.S. -Will be a senior in the fall -Low GPA (3.3-3.4) -Boutique IB SA this summer -2 other non-IB internships in the past So basically this summer I will definitely be reading as many IB relevant things as I can, but I am wondering what my next steps should be for FT recruiting. I ran through a practice GMAT without preparing and got 720, so should I just take the GMAT sometime this summer to try and offset my low GPA? I'm hoping to apply to b-school sometime in the next 5 years. Also, would you recommend I find a part time IB internship for fall semester? Just looking for any thoughts/advice you have regarding the FT recruiting process. Thanks!

Hey guys, does anyone know if JPM IBD will be recruiting for full time? How was the summer intern conversion rate? I am currently at another bank and hoping to switch. Am especially interested in the TMT and FIG teams so if anyone has any specific information that would be great!

I've got myself in a interesting situation. I'm currently working at a no-name investment bank where I really don't do much (there just isn't enough going on, not like I could ask for more). It's unpaid and some days all I do is read the WSJ and Bloomberg. It's so small that some people in finance in my city haven't heard of it, and I'm not in a major finance hub. Ill be a senior in the fall at a semi-target so there will be a good opportunity to recruit for ft, but I need some good experience this summer.

I'll be interning in Financial Advisory Services (deal dependent mix of M&A and restructuring) with a decent firm this summer. I'm planning to network a lot with a strong alumni base from a target/semi-target school, but with a middle-ish/lowish GPA, no prior IB experience (some PE though if it counts), and the rumored difficulty of FT recruiting these days, is it too much of a long-shot to try over focusing my networking in more relevant fields (say like leveling up to better firms in FAS or doing going for an F500 corp fin FLDP)? The group I'll be working with has an industry focus and also does some MM investment banking, but I can't guarantee that I'll get significant exposure. I'm not talking FT IBD at top BBs or EBs, but I'm wondering more about lower BBs or quality MM firms.

I'm a junior with a 3.4 GPA at a target LAC in math. I have good ec's(Varsity Athlete--potential captain). I'll have an internship this summer at a lower tier BB and some entrepreneurial experience. I was wondering if this gpa will hurt my chances for full time recruiting as I struggled to get SA interviews for this summer. Obviously my resume will be significantly stronger with a BB internship but will I be able to get interviews for MBB consulting jobs after this summer with a 3.4 GPA?

Hey Everyone, This question has been bothering me a lot. Why Consulting hires more for full-time than banking? People always said that full-time recruiting for IB does not exist, but Consulting tend to hire more in full-time. What are some factors that contribute to this differences? Thank you so much! Best,

I've got close to 1 year in WE from B4 Audit and trying to transition into IB? Will any boutiques/MM banks put me in the FT recruiting ring with undergrad/grad students getting ready to graduate? If so, how do I find out which shops do this? I haven't had much luck with coming in off cycle as of late.

A little bit of background: Currently a junior at a non target Currently doing an internship in the equity research group at local boutique, this summer I will be interning in the Finance division at BB(MS/GS) in NY Networked hard and went through IBD SA recruiting at a couple of BB's with no offer. My question is, with internal networking over the summer, will it be possible to move into the equity research group for full time? I know it is nearly impossible to do so for IBD at a BB without prior banking experience. I would love to hear about any experience you guys have in making a similar

Accepted an SA gig at an M&A boutique (not EB) in NYC and am worried about not getting a FT offer. I don't necessarily want to work at this office full time, but judging from previous posts, I know how important receiving a FT offer is when recruiting for FT. The problem is that after digging through some reviews/posts on WSO about this office, no SAs have received FT offers from this place and I'm worried that not getting the FT offer will put me at a big disadvantage when recruiting for FT.... Anyone have any advice about this? Were any of you able to get offers from larger banks for FT

Just wondering how common it was for people who don't get full time offers to take some time and go travel, then return and hit recruiting? About me: non target, 3.5 finance GPA, 3 prior internships in IB, DCM at a BB this past summer. DCM just wasn't for me.
