With the GS salary bump announced recently, was pretty nervous it would come out of our bonuses. However, this year, the bonuses were MONSTROUS for GS Classics. First year analyst bonuses topped at $115k, with mid / up rounding into $95k, bottom getting $75k. Second year analysts topped out at $145k in my team, with mid being $125k. With these numbers, and second year analysts now getting $125k base, seems like a top second year analyst could rack in $270k pre tax - wow. Anyone else here in GS classics who can provide insight into their team? Sick year for industry comp as a whole.

Hello, I will be having 2 interviews (30 minutes each with 2 VPs) with GS TMT in NY although the position says (ECM TMT), and I am not fully aware whether GS provides services such as M&A, IPO, etc. under the TMT group. If you have an answer, please help me out. For the interview preparation, since I have not worked a software company, should I be worried that I will be asked question about SaaS operating model? I got a brief lecture about SaaS operating modeling, but beyond that, I have no clue. In 30 minutes, I think they can ask a lot of questions, either fit or technical, if anyone has

Want the SparkNotes? We got "banker speak" for nothing. But you don't need a SparkNotes because it was only a whole 30 seconds or so on an hour-long call. Senior Leadership on Junior Banker CIB-wide call: "We saw the materials and saw the forum" - nice, I would hope so. "We're exploring resources and solutions" - as you said you have been for months on end now… and as you SHOULD be at all times… without a deck or forum or having to tell me lol. "We've set a net zero emissions target for 2050" - sick bro. So what value did any junior bankers at WF pick up from the call? Please chime in because

Hi Guys, I would like to ask, does the need for Visa Sponsorship in the UK put me into disadvantage when applying to investment banks in London for Summer Internship? I currently have Student Visa that allows me to work without sponsorship. I am not planning to lie on my application when the question is if I will need sponsorship in the FUTURE I will select YES even though I wouldn't need it for the SA role I am applying to, just in case FT offer afterwards. Just want to know if this will put me in disadvantage compared to others who don't need Visa, especially now when the work visa system

hii I have never posted before and this is a bit scary but I think it is worth it to go the lengths to hear all the opinions I can. I know this is a very privileged problem to have,, and thank you in advance to everyone who helps out,, but I have received offers from both GS LA and MS SF. Both of them IBD and both of them are the healthcare groups. I really am struggling to figure out which one is the best to choose because honestly I don't think there is a bad decision here but I think there may be a better one. Here are some of my thoughts: Location: SF would be preferred--I go to school

Hi all, as the title says, received a SD invite for Goldman's GM team (basically S&T), an offer from Key's IB tech group, and a 2nd round with Morgan Stanley's PubFin team. All offers for Summer Analyst positions. My goal is ideally IB or any role where I can exit to an innovation-centric platform like VC or entrepreneurship (I'm also considering MBB, if that's a possibility down the road). All really different offers, and I'm not sure if the name premium from Goldman would be better than an actual IB offer from a decent MM tech group in KeyBanc (advised SumoLogic, Rockwell Automation in M&A

Hey everyone, first post here on WSO. I'll be joining GS IBD team here in Bengaluru, India, likely in the M&A division. Wanted to know the best industry coverage group there. Now, from what I could gather from multiple discussions here is that GS' TMT coverage is regarded the best by many. However, after talks with multiple folks (mostly 1st and 2nd-year analysts) from my office, I learnt that it's actually the chill-est division in the office. Now what this means is that while in terms of hours, it's the most relaxed, but the chances of a convert to a front office in London (or any other

Hi guys, I'm currently making a choice between LSE A&F and HSG MBF. My goal is to eventually work in London for a tier-1 IB. Although LSE is definitely the bigger brand, particularly in London, I wouldn't have to do any extra internships. HSG would allow me to do a SA and an OC before applying to London in 2022. So ultimately the question is: LSE with current profile vs. HSG with 2 more internships in M&A. For context, this is my current profile: - Grew up in London, went to a German school with Abitur 1.8 - Non-target uni in Netherlands with 8.0 GPA (3.5 equivalent) - Exchange to Bocconi -

Hey all, does anyone have concrete examples of what Goldman's end of year bonuses (paid out in August) look like for analysts? I know there is a "Goldman discount" and they get paid on the lower end, but any numbers you know of in the past would be helpful - for both first and second year. Do some groups pay higher than others? For example, I believe TMT makes up like 40% of IBD's revenues, so do their analysts get paid slightly more in bonuses?

I got a Hirevue interview with Goldman Sachs for Early Careers one month ago. I can say I did terribly. I think I might fail because I have not heard back from them yet. I keep applying for some other Early Career positions and when I checked my status recently. I saw my new application changed from "Resume Under Review" to " Interview". But I have not received any emailed to take another Hirevue interview. So my question is whether they use only one Hirevue interview to consider for all of the positions the candidate apply in future? Or for each application they're gonna send different

I'm looking into Goldman's real estate groups and was wondering if anyone can explain what their different groups do. What is the difference between GSAM and GS merchant banking? What are the types of work/investing, comp, and potential exits in both? What does the real estate financing group do? Do they originate loans like other bank lenders at the asset level, do debt placements like brokers, raise corporate debt like typical bankers? Any info would be much appreciated!

Hi everyone, hope all is well. Question for any of you that have been through the Goldman process, or at least early stages. I'm enrolling in one of their Insight Days then will apply for SA 2022. For the insight day, it asks to submit a resume "containing no proprietary information which includes previous employers...delete these before submitting to Goldman Sachs..." Hey guys, Very hard to find information on Goldman Sachs' buyside operations. From what I understand Merchant Banking and SSG have been merged into one entity now referred to as Merchant Banking. Let me know if my findings are correct: From what I understand, the Merchant Banking team acts like a PE firm (using Goldman's balance sheet as opposed to LPs) that also does mezzanine financing and distressed debt and real estate. The SSG group acts like a hedge fund and invests in distressed debt, start-ups, event driven catalyst equities etc Not sure how Goldman Sachs Investment Partners fits into

I will be as honest as I can and will love hate or advice regardless what it is. I transferred to a target school a year ago as a junior, if you look at my post history it will explain everything. And after being there for a year I've slowly re-evaluated everything. IB was the most promising career that would be lucrative with time whether it be going to PE or whatever else. I've been looking into the Private Equity Group within GS AIMS recently (saw a posting a few weeks ago) and noticed a lot of former analysts were able to exit into PE buyout shops, despite the group doing primaries / secondaries / co-investments, rather than LBOs. Would anyone have insight into why this is the case? I've been reading forums on here that have said it is tough for guys in these sort of FoF roles to get into direct LBO shops, but it seems this happens routinely at GS AIMS PEG. Any insight would be appreciated!

Monkeys, Have posted this on the PE forum but figured I tried my luck here too. Recently received my invitation for Goldman's MBD AC for a summer analyst position. The email specifies the internship will be rotational across Equity, Credit, and RE investing and was hoping someone could provide some colour on how to best prepare. Not too sure if there will be a technical aspect which would require me to prepare for questions on all of them or rather the interviews will be more motivational/ personality. I'm wondering what your thoughts are on this. I'm 1/4 Irish and 3/4 German. I come from a wealthy family, but they wouldn't even pay for braces. My teeth are a bit crooked (almost done invisalign in two months), two small chips due to playing spots, and kind of small due to my genes (parents also skimped in whole milk, quality fish, etc...). I really don't want to be held down due to this minor (perceived) flaw. I've always been the brightest and would rather do technology sales than be held down for life in a place like NYC. Hey, I recently verbally accepted an offer for the 2021 Summer analyst position at MS for investment management fixed income (I know this is IB but still) and was very happy since this is my dream job-going into the buy side was more preferable for me and I wanted to learn from a BB. I have also been interviewing for GS but probably will cancel interviews now that I verbally accepted, since I prefer their culture, people, etc. However I spoke to a professor at my school who's been in the industry for years and he said MS is good but only a quarter as good as GS which is in another league. Hi guys, I am in a weird situation and would love to hear out some opinions. Two months ago, I started working as and IBD analyst at one of the top 3 IB banks in their NYC HQ. However, I managed to get (what I believe is) a better job opportunity for me in the meantime and now I am thinking about quitting the IB to join the other company. Honestly, the work I have now is not so bad, but I feel like it's not for me in the long term (the hours, culture, some parts of the work...), whether the other opportunity feels quite perfect. If I had it three months ago I would choose it over my current

I am currently going to be working as an Investment Management Sophmore summer analyst this summer at GS, and I was wondering if anyone could provide some insight surrounding the feasibility of transferring into IBD for next summer. I know this site obsesses over GS/JPM/MS a lot, but how much "better" are they compared to other BBs (C/CS/BARC/BAML/UBS/DB) on the street regarding (1) culture (2) workload (3) pay (4) structure? Is the difference just blown out of proportion on this site, or are the banks actually a lot more similar than people like to describe? I've heard mixed reviews, where some say it's night and day, others who say most banks give similar experiences. Minus prestige, are "lower-tier" banks really that different from "mid-tier" and "top" banks? Would love to hear from anyone who has experienced both

This via Marty Chavez, Goldman Sachs's incoming CFO. What are your thoughts? [quote]TechnologyReview.com: At its height back in 2000, the U.S. cash equities trading desk at Goldman Sachs's New York headquarters employed 600 traders, buying and selling stock on the orders of the investment bank's large clients. Today there are just two equity traders left. Automated trading programs have taken over the rest of the work, supported by 200 computer engineers. The Current Promotion Cycle for Investment Banking Analysts So recently I got word that Goldman Sachs is announcing a pretty dramatic policy shift in the promotion cycle of investment banking analysts right out of college. Traditionally, investment banking analysts would work for two years and then jump to a private equity firm, hedge fund, start up or some other role in corporate finance. The rare breed that could withstand the 100 hour work weeks would sign up for a third year. Most of the best & brightest would move to greener pastures where they could work a measly 70-80hrs/week on average

Hi All, I'm new to this site, but wanted to get commentary from likeminded people about whether or not to pursue an MBA. My rule of thumb is that it's only worth consideration from a T-20 program, especially if an employer or grants aren't paying for it. Yet, with a six-figure price tag will it really make or break your career? I'm of the opinion that there's a surplus of MBAs out there. The cost will go up since foreign students paying international tuition rates are becoming less intrigued by the prospects of studying/living/working in the U.S. Given recent wage inflation, I wouldn't be
