GPA - GPA doesn't matter after it is above 3.9
For getting IBD interviews I hear that once your GPA is above 3.9 or so differences don't really matter (i.e. no diff between 3.91 and 3.97) unless its a 4.0. Is this true? Thanks!
SA Resume review 2010
Hey I want to apply for some sophomore positions such as PWM or a boutique hedge fund/ IB . I was also wondering about my "Major GPA" the one stated on my resume is only one major out of my double major (since it is significantly higher than the other) and I don't know if this would be considered...
Target Resume Review

why doesn't HR consider a 3.39 gpa better than a 3.4?
think about it: anything above 3.35 rounds to 3.4. assuming that everyone with 3.4x writes it out instead of rounding down, that would make the expected value of a 3.4 = (3.4+3.35)/2 = 3.375
Resume and Networking
Hey, I am a sophomore and I go to a target and have a GPA > 3.0. I think that I can pull it up to a 3.0-2 this semester. I have been networking pretty hard this semester and was wondering what I should do if I am asked for a resume. Should I give him my current one with my GPA on it, put an...
GPA Rounding - Canadian grades
Suppose you are sporting a 3.45 GPA. Would it be acceptable to round this up to a 3.5 on your resume for BBs? Assuming you did such a thing, would you ever get asked about it from interviewers (I assume it would look bad once you told them the truth that your GPA is 0.05 lower than advertised)?
GPA Options
For IB analyst jobs, and other finance positions, is it ok to list something more specific than a major GPA? I just finished undergrad with an overall of 3.38, and an economics & finance (double) major GPA of 3.45. Because a few senior econ/finance electives killed my major gpa, do the below options...
3.2 GPA from Cornell - omit from resume?
I'm a rising sophomore & currently have a 3.2. I know this is really low....should I take this out from my resume? I'm afraid that recruiters will see it and immediately ding me. By the way, I had IBD experience working a boutique this summer.
Ethical average on resume?
WSO , I go to a Canadian target and since I'm getting a B. Comm. / HBA etc. I don't technically have a major. Would it be ethical to, in place of "major GPA", put "concentration GPA"? For example, could I put all of my finance-only classes under my concentration GPA or would this be frowned upon?...
multiple transcripts
I still have some time until i apply to bschool but i was trying to figure where i stand. I transferred twice during undergrad so i have two older transcripts with thirty credits on each and then i have my final transcript from my graduating institution with 75 credits. I did somewhat poorly on my...
Main Factors for Top Consulting Jobs
In order to get a consulting job, what are the main factors of consideration (assuming HYP undergrad)? In general, does a HYP 3.5 GPA and a good interview beat a HYP 3.7 GPA and a medium interview? Does major matter (i.e., if you are a math or philosophy major versus a poli sci)?
not lisitng GPA, could you get dinged if you get an offer
So i was offered a job at a hedge fund and i never listed my GPA due to it being less than stellar in my mind. I was wondering if the fund might Ding me after HR does a background check and sees my GPA. No one ever asked about my GPA which was weird, but i figured since i went through a headhunter...
VERY non-target: shot in the dark or give up?
Let me start by asserting that I know very little about investment banking, trading, hedge funds, personal equity, etc. What little I do understand, I find enthralling - specifically working a job with million or billions of dollars on the line. I realize this is more or less the pre-medical...

Major G.P.A. - Double major
When writing a resume with a double major, how would you approach a major g.p.a.? Is it okay to simply list only one major gpa on the resume because one of my majors has a significantly higher gpa than the other one and it would be beneficial to have one gpa and the cumulative rather than just the...
Entry GPA?
I know that in the past few years, a 3.5+ is sufficient for entry. I've been out of the loop for a while, so what is a good gpa needed for applying to IB or Trading right now? I go to a target
GPA Listing Question
Hi guys, Wondering if someone could give me a suggestion here. During my freshman and sophomore year, I had a 3.09 GPA - not too impressive. I play a sport that is a huge time commitment, so between adjusting to that, the college life, and having way too much fun, by grades suffered. However, I...
Majors - Soph looking to do math and econ
Hey guys, I'm new to WSO . I'm a soph looking to do math and econ. Just curious as to whether firms (for both banking and s&t , bulge brackets and botiques ) account for difficulty of major when they look at your resume. i.e. How much does the math major add if it brings my GPA down a bit? (Let's...
for anyone else who ever interviewed someone...
Am I the only one who could care less about someone's Major GPA? To me, if someone puts on their resume that their GPA is a 3.0, the only thing worse they can do is put down next to it that their major GPA is a 3.7. Why not just put down that you only took (or showed up) 1-2 courses a semester and...
What do I do now? - Graduating in May with two summer internships
Well I posted here a couple months ago trying to figure out how to get into Ibanking, and since I've changed my outlook on that career. As much as I said I could put up with the 100 hour weeks, I don't think I could stomach it. Now I'm graduating in May though with 2 internships and an Econ degree...
GPA went down after initial superday / attending second superday
Hi guys, I interviewed for a large investment bank last Fall semester and am interviewing with them again in the Spring semester. My GPA went down from a 3.9 to a 3.8 (about a .06 drop). I am currently contesting a grade that I think could bump me back up to 3.9. Should I update my resume with my...
GPA, Summer Intership Suggestions
I'm a junior at penn, "majoring" in both wharton and biology. I'm looking for a summer internship. My gpa is miserably low (high 2.xx) though so far it has been slightly improving each semester. Everyone knows where many of the students with great GPAs and resumes go--BCG, McKinsey, Accenture,...
Taking an additional semester to raise my GPA
Hello? I'm considering taking an additional semester to raise my GPA. I did horrible on my first two years, it was like 2.4, and by now I raised it to 3.11. I have one more semester left before graduation, and I can only get 3.28 in the best scenario. But if I take an additional semester I can lift...
List Your Credentials
Hey so I have lurked around this forum for a little while, and I have a request for anyone that is willing to meet it. I was wondering if people wouldn't mind sharing their resume so people could compare and maybe ease a bit of the stress that occurs with the IB recruitment process (especially in...
Focus on raising GPA in summer school?
I attend a top target (H/W/P) however I have a low GPA that I have been trying to raise. I spent last summer taking classes and I am considering taking two more classes this summer in order to have a decent GPA for FT recruitment (~3.15-3.2). As it stands OCR starts in January and I dont believe my...
GPA question for background check
I listed only my junior year GPA on my resume - it is 0.4 higher than my cumulative GPA which I didn't list. After getting a full time offer at a bank, can I get dinged if they don't like what my cumulative GPA is?? I would appreciate honest and not judgmental feedback. Thank you.
what to do if just AVERAGE?
I'll be the first to admit that I'm only an average IBD candidate . 3.62 from a top 25 school without much extracurriculars. An alum told me that he's reviews a lot of resumes from people with 3.8s and 3.9s. I do have an internship with a somewhat decent firm but again who doesn't. Any advice on how...
Quick Question Regarding GPA
Hi All, I am helping a friend fix up his/her resume. The GPA is not high, ~2.5. However, the resume will not be for any IB / S&T spots...more for Operations/ BO Finance/Whatever. I am wondering if I should have him/her leave the GPA on with a 2.5 or get rid of it entirely. I ask because I know some...
