Currently a LevFin analyst at GS/MS/BAML. Want to transition to buyside (specifically Growth Equity shop). Background is heavy in debt, but familiar and proficient in modeling (practice and taught through self). Is it okay if i told headhunters I want to go this route, even though my background is debt focused?

I am trying to cold email head hunters and think my format is pretty bad. Here it is. Can someone please provide any insights / templates on how to cold email HHs? Thanks This is my current format: Dear Ms. / Mr. XXX, My name is XXX and I work as a XXX in XXX. I am am experienced in [modeling, diligence, etc] in XXX sectors and am looking for private equity opportunities. Your firm is a top recruiter for [mega/mm/lower mm] funds and I am very interested in chatting more about opportunities in those funds. Can we find a time to discuss? Thanks, XXX

Use linkedin and bank syntax to aggregate analyst emails. Collect CVs. Plug into internal system (aka master excel spreadsheet). Filter by: IB Group, School, GPA, Location preference. Herd analysts into client office when they ask you to. How hard can it be? Are there any HH on this forum who can illustrate what is so proprietary about their services? I assume the bigger firms lock in contracts with headhunters (not sure why the PE firm would agree to this) and a MF isn't going to let JM28 Search run their recruiting process, but I'm assuming some smaller firms would be open to an email saying

Anyone know anything about Pinpoint Partners or their track record? They're based out of the UK but somehow are trying to get analysts to the buy-side in SF, Boston, and NYC. Don't think their connections are very strong and their biz model seems to just be sending blast emails to IB analysts on Linkedin. Terms of service indicate they get paid for each candidate they put in front of a bank for any interview, with an additional commission if that candidate signs an offer letter. Seems shady to me, I think their staff is much smaller than what is conveyed. Would love to hear from anyone who has

Recruited on-cycle in early December and signed with an upper MM buyout fund in NYC starting Summer 2019 (flagship fund size: $6-9 bn; AUM: $20-40 bn). Lazy Friday in the office and wanted to contribute here somehow - figured one helpful angle could be an update on the relevancy and efficacy of various headhunters at the Pre-MBA Associate level. The below commentary is purely applicable to private equity recruiting. Best Private Equity Recruiting Firms 1. Career Partners Inc. (CPI): Client list on website. Speaks for itself. Seem to place materially more Pre-MBA Associates than any other

Hey guys - looking to see if anyone has worked with some solid headhunters for private equity / SWF placements into the UAE (Abu Dhabi & Dubai). So far, I've identified PER, Pinpoint Partners and Arkesden as potential firms to work with. I am based in the US, and understand that London-based recruiters are typically more active in the region. Does anyone have any suggestions for firms I can consider reaching out to? Thank you all.

Hello - just finished my first call with one of the well-known headhunters on this board (Glocap, Amity, HSP, S1, Oxbridge, CPI, etc); Started off the call with some small talk then jumped into my story / resume, what I'm looking for, where I'm looking to live and a couple other basic questions like timing etc. The recruiter mentioned that they don't have anything that jumps out at as being a good fit but would keep in touch as the market is active and new roles pop up all the time and requested that I keep in touch and update them as my search progresses. This was my first call with a

I've been getting a lot of random messages from headhunting agencies on LinkedIn (such as Options Group, Alexander Chapman, etc.), but I'm not sure how sketchy these are or if these are legitimate and it's worth getting on a call with them. They seem to all be in the quant research/trading space and claim to have information on opportunities at places like Citadel GQS, Tower, WorldQuant. Anyone else getting similar messages/have any idea?

What would you guys say are the best headhunters to use for IB laterals? I found a few topics on this but they are all outdated and generally do not have great responses. My buddy is looking to lateral from a European city (he is in sort of a hybrid trading / lev fin role at a BB) to NYC and all of my recruiter / headhunter experience has been buyside focused so I unfortunately do not have great advice to give. All of the IB postings I have gotten over the past few years have been from CW Partners, Pinnacle and Pinpoint but I am sure there are more / better options. Separately, has anyone had

Hi everyone, A quick question. I apologize in advance for it being a stupid and naive question. Just wondering what experience people have had working with headhunters to get jobs in the field of finance? Looking to start using them to line up interviews before I graduate next May, and wanted to hear any advice you guys might have on the subject. Thanks in advance.

Quick question for those who have recruited/are recruiting. Is there a way to find headhunters client lists before meeting with them??? Can we only rely on word of mouth from coworkers? I really want to schedule my first meeting with a firm that has a very low prestige client list...thoughts?

Does anyone know anything about Pinpoint Partners? They're headhunters based in the UK. Anyone with any stories of using them or success? Pinpoint Partners Experiences and Reviews Our users across the board have had bad experiences with this headhunting firm. Our users claim that they send spamming emails, blast out your resume to firms without your consent, demand information about other analysts at your firm, and send you information about things that you are not interested in at all. We have a couple of roles for people with IB backgrounds. One is a Capital Markets Associate 1-2 years (must have real estate) and the other is a Manager, IR 3-6 years. We also do banking roles from time to time.

Hi WSO, I am a second-year analyst at a boutique and have been receiving emails for one-off type of opportunities from headhunters. I initially heavily considered just staying for associate so I never really prepped for PE recruiting or any of the process. I just received an email for a potential opportunity (lower MM) that I could be interested in. What is the etiquette for responding here? Do I attach a resume/do I need a longer email explaining my reasons for interest, etc.

Hello everyone! Glad to join the fine lads present in this forum after a couple of years living in anonymity. As the beginning of my 3rd year approaches, I am starting to consider my options for next summer, with private equity in a solid first place. I am looking for anyone who can shed some light on who are the key headhunting firms for private equity and VC in Europe (say, London and Southern Europe). Looking particularly for those with whom the big names work (Carlyle, PAI, Permira, CVC, Cinven, BC, Blackstone, Bridgepoint...). Thanks,

Hello, Can anyone provide some insight on working in finance in Asia (particularly Mainland China)? I grew up in the US and am working currently an IBD analyst in the US at a bulge bracket firm. I do have the language capability to work in China. I would be interested in either working for a western fund, or for a local up-and coming but reputable firm, Hony, Saif, CDH, New Horizon are just some of the names in China I've come across on the web. Any other key players I should look into?

I know there has been a lot written about banking headhunters, but what about consulting? Does that industry have a lot of headhunters like finance does? And if so, who are the big players?

Is there any point of signing up with the headhunters if you want to get a job in investment banking or close to investment banking? Also, if you are undergrad in senior year do they help at all or are they only good for people out of school. Some good thoughts will be appreciated. Thanks.
26 Sep 2010
Guys before everyone starts bashing at me, I am going to add a disclaimer. This has been my first experience with headhunters, and I have little friends who have worked in the IBD industry before. Plus, more importantly, I am a paranoid of "Grade A" type. Yep seriously. I work at a mid-tier BB in IBD and am a first year. All the news of further downsizing at my BB had been mentally wrecking me, so I decided to look for M&A roles in other banks. I came across a posting on a headhunter firm's website and emailed the contact person for that job. My email was very generic: "Hi, I am currently

I'm currently a first year analyst in the FIG group of a BB. Started getting contacted by headhunters in the past few weeks but have not met any of them yet. Not 100% sure whether I want to go into PE or HF after IB, and was wondering on ways to prepare in general over the next few months for buy-side recruiting. -Any suggested resources / guides to read about the junior roles in PE, HF, and about specific shops? -How to prepare for meetings with headhunters? -How to prepare for PE & HF interviews (is it ok to pursue both)? -How important is networking for buy-side recruiting compared to networking for IBD? -What to be doing in the office to increase exit opp chances? -Any specific types of funds to be targeting as a FIG analyst?

please cast your votes for the single best PE headhunter for NYC jobs not based on success rates or retainers or anything like that but on exclusivity in short, who is the recruiter that contacts GS and ms analysts 6 months into their 1st years? how do they find these candidates' names?
16 Nov 2009
Hey guys, I just recently accepted an offer in the SF bay area with a BB for banking in tech. Just wanted to get your thoughts on what the exit opps are like on the west coast for tech.... It seems like in NY, 1st years are approached like 6 months into the job by headhunters and can secure an offer 1 year into their job for PE/HF (give or take). There's a lot of buy side recruiting in NY obviously, but there's also a ton of analysts. It seems like there's a decent amount of buy side recruiting (PE, VC) on the west coast as well, but a fraction of the analysts.

I keep getting contacted by headhunters asking for my help in "finding appropriate candidates" for position XYZ. Is there any point in actually making an effort to help out? I'm thinking it's a waste of time. However, some people believe it's a good way to build strong relationships with headhunters, and that those relationships will be beneficial if I decide to make a move to a different industry. Thoughts?

Anyone have any contacts they'd recommend from CPI? I've been having a tough time getting in touch with them. I'm looking more at top growth equity shops/later stage venture firms in the northeast. That said, anyone at the firm that you've had a good experience with would be appreciated. Feel free to PM me so as not to out their emails on the public forum. Thanks.

Hello everybody, I believe that this forum has become a very good source for the people trying to break into investment banking. A lot of the recommendations from this board helped me get an analyst spot. The tips on networking helped me get interview spots and the various posts on interviews helped me navigate through that process and clinch that coveted spot. To me, however, this is not yet the end of the road. I realized that an analyst spot is not enough anymore to move into PE, I noticed that there is fairly large amount of 3rd year analysts and I can't stop but notice that it usually is for the reason of not receiving buy-side offers. Unfortunately, I feel that this forum is fairly light on information on how to move from IB to PE. What are some of the things that can be done to move ahead of the pack beside receiving top bucket reviews. Is networking a good way to start? How is it perceived on the street since it could reflect a lack of dedication to the job etc... Please advise. Thank you very much.

I was in contact with a few headhunters for long-only AM, but really have only gotten hedge fund employment listings. I was wondering if there are specific recruiters who do better for long-only positions? or if these rely more on internal recruiters as opposed to headhunters?

Hey guys, Sorry for another headhunter post -- was wondering if anyone had any good contacts at: CPI McKibben Group Bellcast Partners Dynamics Search Partners Carter Pierce I've been getting good traction at with all the other firms for 2016 PE recruiting, but not have heard back from these 5. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey monkeys, I just wanted to hear the community's thoughts on whether this situation is commonplace or not. I'm a current third year at a non-target starting my SA at a top M&A group within the next few weeks and updated my LinkedIn profile a couple weeks ago to add my new Bank/group/city/etc. Anyway, a headhunter contacted me a couple days ago on LinkedIn, acknowledged that I won't be FT until 2012, but still asked if I would like to keep in touch for future PE/HF opportunities in 2014/2015. I looked at the guys' contacts and he has page upon page of other top-group bankers, so I have little reason to believe he's disingenuous. I suppose the crux of this post though is twofold:

Do different recruiting firms talk to one another about candidates, specifically regarding fund type/size preferences (or even whether pe or hf)? I am not a rockstar candidate, so I can't imagine why it would be worth their time (I assume they just want to place me wherever asap), but want to make sure there is not some huge amount data sharing going on.

Hi all, this goes to all people who are currently in PE or who went through PE recruiting: does anybody have any experience with the above recruiting firm? From what I can take from their website, they mostly recruit for firms in London and on the continent. Any experiences would be greatly appreciated. My background: I am a 1st year analyst in a Top 5 BB industry group in London and haven't had much modelling experience so far. While I am generally interested in PE, I don't really want to move at this point since I don't think I have acquired enough technical skills yet. I receive very positive feedback on my work and would say I have a very good work ethic, also I get along well with all the people I have worked with so far.

So just started my search for a PE role and have an interview lined up at a small fund. Only thing is investments the fund makes are pretty small and would prefer to work somewhere with a bit more capital to deploy. I am going to go for the interview because I need the practice, but I know if I got an offer I wouldnt take it. The issue with this is I obviously cant be going to interview after interview at places I dont want and be turning down invites to the next round or even offers, because the headhunters will think I'm just messing them around. So just wondering if anyone has done this

I've been in ER for 3 years at a BB, but need a change as I'm having problems with my manager, a star analyst who will never allow me to gain exposure. A couple months ago, I started meeting a few headhunters to explain my situation. I've been set up to meet several heads of research and heads of sales at lower-tier banks, but so far not the places that I'd really like to work at. These headhunters seem to operate by blasting some kind of summary they've made up about me in order to fish for meetings, and I wonder if they are presenting me in the right way. I also suspect that one of these guys has been working against my interests by pitching someone I know for a position that I mentioned I had interviewed for.
27 Mar 2011
My friends received a blast of e-mails last week, but I only received 3 (I lateraled in to banking so I was likely not on the list of first year analysts at my bank that the headhunters got their hands on) Haven't received any this week. How busy has your inboxes been?
12 Dec 2013
Guys, For those who have dealt w/ headhunters in the past, why do they ask you who are the associates or senior people in your group? They said to me they ask so that they can go and find their bios and try to figure out what "career path" they have walked so far... I don't 100% believe in this. Any insights on this?

Hello, I am 1st yr ANL at bulge bracket just starting to recruit for PE. I have set up headhunter meetings for the month of December. I have been hearing that it is very important to articulate my interests exactly to crush the first headhunter meeting, but I still do not know what exactly I want to do after my 2 years. I know that I am interested in Technology/Media, and feel more drawn to growth equity / middle market buyout compared to mature, late-stage traditional PE. While I am attracted by how Growth Equity works, I also do not want to be sourcing for most of my day. Couple of questions

I've heard much about headhunters recruitment IBD analysts into PE/HF firms but what about for corporate banking and credit risk type positions? Specifically, do headhunters look for talent only in large cities like NYC? I got an offer from a BB in Corporate credit risk but in the salt lake city; a lot of large banks have started establishing/growinf offices in SC because of, I believe, tax breaks. I know an alum from my school who got headhunted into a HF and he was working in the same position at the same BB, but he was in NY. Back then the Credit Risk functions for this bank was divided between NY and SLC, but now they've started moving everyone I'm credit risk over to SLC. So would I be unnoticed by headhunters?

So i have known a few headhunters now and know a good one is fuckin hard to find. These days ive been approached quite a few times by them and some have really peaked my interest. Which leads to me to my damn question. Are headhunters to be trusted? Like I got my job now through one. When i want to switch should I tell them? I am afraid that they might alert hr with the purpose of refilling the same position. This will ultimately be a bitch in the case I do not secure an offer by then. Has this ever happened to anyone? I want to tell my headhunter that Im looking to jump but you know these

It is the time of the year when headhunter activity increases, but I have seen more this year than in years past. The number of calls looking to fill positions rather than recruit candidates has picked up (i.e. demand first and supply second, which is very different from supply first, demand second). Is anyone else seeing this? Could be 1) headhunters simply trying to gauge sentiment at banks (i.e. not looking to place you, but seeing if you are going to be joining the labor supply); 2) an exodus of unhappy employees already leaving other banks (i.e. labor demand is real); or 3) playing the
