Yes this is overdone and yes I am a nervous undergrad seeking validation. But to be fair, the most recent (substantive) posts on this subject are already several years old so here goes: I currently have a 3.48 at a HYP school. I'm a sophomore and I'm trying hard to push this above the 3.5 line this semester before I recruit in the Spring. I'm studying purely economics with a humanities second major so nothing crazy, but I struggled a lot in my first year for various reasons -i.e. zoom, not caring enough about grades, etc etc. Can I get an honest assessment from someone who has been through it

The Calgary threads on this forum (few and far between as they may be) are a bit scattered with a lot of the info a few years stale. I figured I would take advantage of some of my downtime after Stampede to try to start a thread with some fresh info. Some items for my personal interest: (non-exhaustive) 1.) how does compensation compare with other cities in Canada and North America? 2.) how does culture / quality of life / WLB / lifestyle compare with other cities in Canada and North America? 3.) how do exit opps and career development (for the career bankers among us) compare to other cities

Monkeys, I have a call coming up with the Vice Chairman of Investment Banking at an unspecified BB. I have questions of my own but wanted to expand the scope / spice things up and thought WSO might have some questions too. Feel free to post questions and I may ask them and provide you with the responses based on their quality. Intending for them to be mainly industry / market outlook questions as well as trends, fire away.

Mod Note: Each day we'll be posting the top WSO forum posts of 2014. This one was originally posted on 4/29/14 and ranks #11 for the year by total silver banana count. You can see all our top ranked content here. Hey everyone, It's been an interesting and long 10 months since I began pursuing a career in IBD. I wanted to share my story with the rest of the WSO community and especially for those monkeys out there who are trying to break in (target or non-target, it's tough) and having trouble fighting through the rejections and pitfalls of the process.

So, I have to pick my courses for the upcoming year and as an M&A hopeful I was wondering if it would be useful to do intermediate Accounting, past the basic Financial statements, ratios, etc ? Would it be useful during the actual analyst stage?

Hi everybody I go to Villanova and they have an opportunity for Freshman to go study in London and then do a 6 week internship. They don't guarantee a company but people in the past have worked at JPM and Barclays wealth. Ok I am going to admit it I am kind of an amateur when it comes to this stuff and that is why I am looking for advice. My first question is what kind of work would I be doing at a company like this for 6 weeks? Another question is what is investment banking and how would I express my interest in this during my interview meeting, I want to say more than just I want to work in investment banking. Also what are the other major investment banks in London that I could I say I want to intern at.
