Hello Everyone, I was recently approached by a recruiter from one of the Big 3 PE firms about an IR position. As an analyst I had never really considered it as an option until now. The pay is extremely competitive compared to what I'm making now as an analyst at a consulting firm (They're offering me 6 figures plus sign on which I believe is a bit high for the space, correct me if I'm wrong), but wanted to get the community's take on the field, exit ops, or other things I might want to consider before making the leap. My concerns (not being an expert) is that growth is a bit flat. I'm 26 years

Hello friends, several recruiting firms have reached out to me about what seem like unique roles at PE firms. The titles have been "Strategy Associate". They are basically pitched as a mix of firm strategy / portfolio operations / investor relations. The responsibilities include: fund reporting, LP relationship management, business development, working with portfolio executives on strategic projects, etc. The roles have generally been at high quality MM firms with large brand names, which is alluring. For context, I have generally been seeking more traditional deal team roles, and have made

Hi All, Graduating from a Top 20 MBA program this spring but started my post-MBA role (MBA LDP) early since I have been going to school part-time. Undergrad in Business with a finance/accounting background (Internal Audit, Controller, FP&A) with 6 years of experience. I have entered a rotational program where I may be able to get rotations in the following if I network properly (have been researching potential people to network with): Corporate Development Venture Capital Investor Relations Treasury Investment Management Supply Chain Finance (different from my past FP&A experience and would

Was wondering what people on the Goldman Sachs Executive Office Investor Relations team do? How competitive are these positions as well for internships and analysts?

hi all, I was previously the deputy CFO of a US-listed Internet company. My role included IR, M&A, but not FP&A. I joined right after the IPO, and missed out on the lessons of take a company public. We grew the company's stock price by 5x in 2 years, through non-deal-roadshows (NDRs) and M&A. It was a hard slog but I've learned some great lessons on what to do and what not to do. Mostly, the company was hampered by mgmt's lack of transparency and openness. I think IR is given a bad rap, and it was a pretty fun ride. I liked that what I was doing translated to our stock price, and consequently

Hi, Currently working at an IB (associate level) and looking for a transition. I'm interviewing with a FoF, ca. 70 Bln Aum for an Institutional sales / IR position, role seems exciting, lots of client facing and travel, comp is great as well. What is the career growth? Exit opp and salary packages when getting some seniority? Partner position still reachable? Thank you for the insights

Hi, I am a Junior at the University of Florida and I'm starting to apply to internships for the summer of 2021. I am very lost when it comes to what career path I should take in the world of finance. I have completed multiple private wealth management internships and I'd have enjoyed them but don't know if there's something else I would enjoy more. I am looking for a career path that I'm able to make a good amount of money at but I'm not going to be slammed with long hours and hard work. I want something that is client-facing where I do not have to sit at a desk all day. If anybody has any

Hi, I am graduating this fall and was wondering if anyone has any advice on how to break into IR and what typical trajectory and exit ops are like. Also if there are any great IR firms out there worth highlighting, I would love some names. Thank you!!

So heres a brief background.. Non-target (state school top 50 though), rising senior, mediocre GPA, worked 1 summer in S&T directly on the street, lots of extracurricular's. 5 year outlook is buy-side, PM, S&T, or ER. Been marketing, cold calling, cold emailing, and networking like a mad man. I have had a few bites but nothing insane. I have an interview for an IR Intern position at a large public company. What im curious is how are the exit opps for a position like this. Since I already have S&T experience I feel like adding this will help me see an entire new side of the markets and will

So I secured an REPE internship this summer at a firm with $10B AUM in two roles PM and IR. I go to a target school in the northeast, am a sophomore, and have a 3.7. A bunch of my friends were able to land sophomore summer internships at big banks, giving them solid footing for junior summer internships. What do you recommend I do to start preparing and standing out for the big bank applications? I feel as though the internship I landed this summer is not that "big" because it is not in Acquisitions (or am I wrong?). Any advice is highly appreciated

Anybody have some insight into investor relations positions at a BB? Is this usually just considered a "middle-office" accounting/reporting type of role, or do you actually help set up investor roadshows and things of that nature? Any opportunities to lateral into another position at the BB? Exit opps? Thanks!

Hello Hello -- seeking advice! I have an offer from Blackstone as an analyst with their Investor Relations and Reporting team for one of their Private Equity Funds and am wondering whether or not this is a good move. I am currently in consulting at a big 4 firm for financial services orgs and am looking for something more rigorous with better exit ops. I'm not sure exactly what my end goal is but would like to be front office as I'm highly personable and want to be revenue-generating. I understand that this team is a support team for the Marketing team (who are the ones going out to meet with

In year 2 of a 3-year rotational program at a ~F100 (tech) company based in the Boston area, currently sitting in the IR group. My third rotation will be in SF starting in August. I was recently contacted by a HH about an IR role at Bain Capital Credit. Can anyone shed some light on: 1) How is corporate IR viewed vs buy-side IR? 2) Is it worth moving to Bain for the name? 3) If anyone has worked in buy-side IR, what is the: day-to-day as an analyst, typical interview process, comp, career progression/ability to move out of IR into other parts of the business?

Hello All, I was recently offered a role as an investor relations analyst at a mid size private equity shop in LA. I am currently a FoHF operations analyst. Seeking some advice as whether making the move will be worth it. What kind of career does an investor relations personnel typically follow? I've been hearing that the room for growth is limited for many of those who choose this path.. But does it lead to more opportunities than operations at a fund of hedge funds? Any help would be appreciated! Need to make a decision on the offer in 12 hours.

Morning WSmonkeys, I'm in a process for an IR Analyst position at a 50B listed company in Europe and was wondering whether you could help me assess the opportunity. Facts: - 4.5 years of B4 experience (3 of them doing transfer pricing - debt/interest rate analysis and intangible valuations and 1.5 in the Equity valuations team), got my CFA Charter 6 months ago. - At the moment I'm happy with my job in the sense that I'm well considered, environment is nice, hours are not extremely crazy, and there is still room for progression. However, there are some cons: our annual revenue mostly come from

Peeps, I just got an offer from a F500 firm to work in their IR group. I will be reporting to the VP of IR who reports to the CEO. The group is comprised of him and now me. My question is what are my exit ops after working in the IRO? Is working in IR only good for other IR exit ops or can I spin the finance angle? I have 2yr post - MBA exp and I currently work in the corporate strategy group of a firm that is really not doing corp strat (we outsourced all of our "real" strat work to consulting firms) so I really just have the title on my resume. -Raj

Hey everyone, I wanted some input from you all on what the exit opportunities are for someone working in IR and what the work/life balance is. The firm is fairly small and focuses only on IR. I have prior internships in IBD and was wondering if it would be possible after 2-3 years to transition into a HF after taking a CFA, or if its possible to make my way back into IB or even PE. Any thoughts and insight would be appreciated.

Currently helping a friend who is recruiting for IR jobs at PE shops after a few years in ECM at a BB. She's come across some jobs where there is a mention of a potential modeling test. Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone might be able to shed some light on Blackstones Investor Relations/Business Development (IRBD) Group. I believe they are in charge of raising capital for different funds. I am assuming the interview process would be more behavioral-focused, but was hoping someone that had a little more knowledge might be able to better advise as to what type of questions to expect. Thank you very much

I am pursuing my MSF with completion planned for June '12 or December '12. I am looking for my first finance related job and I am having some difficulties. Does Investor Relations at a f500 provide much long-term value or is more of a marketing/communications/pr type of position? Thanks in advance.

Hey all, I'll be starting a 6-month full-time corporate Investor Relations internship with one of the top 3 asset managers in the United States this fall (going to be a Junior), and plan on recruiting for BB IBD SA 2018 positions at the same time. If IB doesn't work out for next summer, I may start thinking about Investor Relations as a career full-time after college, but I'd really hate to stay in the corporate finance side of Investor Relations (at public companies). Has anyone ever heard of someone moving from corporate IR to IR at a Private Equity firm or Hedge Fund, and how would this be

I've been thinking more and more about the value Investor Relations (IR) and Investor Relations Officers (IRO) add or don't add to a company. It seems that they truly believe they can have a long-term impact on stock price and that a bad IRO can possibly erode earnings through missteps. My question to you, as individuals in Equity Research, is what role does IR play in your decision making? Can IROs attract and maintain quality long-term investors? Do you find the position important for reasons outside of understanding the company's story and other basic information?

Hello all monkeys, I am doing a MSc in a semi-target University in Europe. I might have the possibility of doing an internship in the headquarters of a F500 company in Europe, in the department of Investor Relations. My main goal is to end up in corporate finance (M&A, Front Office if possible) or PE. My question is, will this internship help me or is just 'one internship more'? What exit opportunities will it ease for me? Is it valuable for the roles I want to end up in? Please bear in mind that we are talking about Europe and when I finish the MSc I'd like to move to London to find a finance

I've got an interview this week for an associate gig at an IR consulting firm for small/midcaps I've always viewed IR (for public companies, not fundraising for PE/VC) as strategic marketing and PR for investors: explain value, tell earnings growth story, answer analyst questions, proactively message to buysiders, etc. Is there anything Im missing? Any IR folks care to chime in with things to discuss (best practices, how the industry is changing, etc)? edit: public, not pubic.
