Off Market Confidentiality Agreement with Brokers
My company is looking at an opportunity to purchase a small multi-family package through a small-time local brokerage. We typically tend to deal with groups like CB, Cushman, JLL etc... so this group's form is new to us. This group has told us that they have been working with the seller for months...
Where are we in the market cycle ? (Commercial Multi-family/Retail)
In my limited research, what I have personally found is that the current real estate market cycle seems to be in a state of hyper supply. It comes to my understanding that a complete cycle happens approximately every sixteen-eighteen years and this happens in four stages: recovery, expansion, hyper...
Euro the buyers trying to induce a reversal
EURUSD: buyers trying to induce a reversal When the cross pair reversed upwards, buyers hit a new session high. The rally failed to continue, however, as global stock markets came under pressure once again. Consequently, there was renewed demand for the safe haven assets: Swiss franc, yen, and gold....

Feel free to expound and discuss your opinions. 1) Our company must be worth more than that we paid for it. 2) Costs are...
Square and Digitized Payment Services
Square (SQ) is commonly found all around small businesses, although it charges a 2.75% fee per transaction, compared to the lower transaction rates of about 1.5% for Visa (V) and MasterCard (MA). With AMZN trying to get into the market, Square faces competition to lower its charge rates. Their...

Market Discussion - What are your thoughts?
I recently read a report which highlighted how the American market space has changed over the last two decades. The two main points which were brought up were: 1.) The decreasing number of publicly traded firms. In 1996, there were ~11,000 firms which traded on NYSE as compared to 5600 today -a...
Short Selling: Worthwhile or Not?
Most people short sell to profit in a bearish market and hedge the downside risk of a long. But, along with its appeal, come its many risks. A short position can be closed out at any time because the stock's lenders are demanding its return. A short seller also has to pay lenders for unpredictable...
Market Cap for Trading Comps Analysis
When calculating market capitalization for trading comps analysis, do bankers use basic (actual) shares outstanding or diluted shares outstanding? I heard diluted is often used because the market share price also accounts for potentially dilutive securities as well, but just wanted to confirm....
Is the toy industry suffering?
The toy industry has been suffering lately with sales slumping even during the prior holiday season. It even missed an industrywide predicted demand increase of 6.5% by 1.5%, which is a considerable margin. However, Hasbro, the number two toy company, has stunned the stock market with a revenue...
Are tax incentives effective?
Trump's Carrier deal includes $7 million in tax breaks for Carrier's parent company, United Technologies , in order to keep jobs in America. But, are tax incentives actually a good idea? The Hill reports: “The economic literature on tax incentives is not kind,” Drenkard said. “It almost...
Can the US presidential election be compared to Brexit?
With only a few hours left till Election Day in the US, the election is being repeatedly compared to Brexit in terms of market reaction. A major shift in the government translates to some major shift in the market, and investors are nervously awaiting the election aftermath, stating that anxiety...

"The market in turmoil"
Well someone should say something... market not doing so well lately. Is it much ado about nothing (e.g. just a short term correction / false alarm) or is this the start of something big? Questions: a) What are the driving factors of this? China? Low interest rates? Fear? b) What's the bottom? When...
Anyone know of any good market commentaries to follow?
Looking for some stuff to keep me updated on current news, hoping for a public markets role on the buy side and curious if anyone had any resources
What policies/legislation would you like to see that you feel would aid in the recovery of the U.S. Economy?
I apologize in advance if this question is misguided or poorly worded. If on the hypothetical chance that the 2016 election provided a bipartisan forum open to any suggestion you could provide, what would the intended strategy be? The goal would not be to encourage you or your firm's personal...
Forget China Job Market - Too Many Hoops To Jump Through & Getting Worse!
Getting visas to work in China is getting more and more confusing and difficult plus they have a crazy rule that you cannot work in any one city more than 5 years! It seems they are making it clear they really don't want foreigners taking the best jobs in the finance/investment industry. Besides,...
TTA Holdings, a very cheap Australian net-net
A few years ago I ran a screen for Australia and came back with less than five companies selling below NCAV. Things change quickly of the 1,905 companies listed in Australia 622 are now trading below 80% of book value. Of course when that much of the market is selling below book there are bound to...
A market analogy
Have you ever walked through the woods and considered the trees? I mean really considered the trees, looked deeply at them, thought about them, and pondered them? I recently spent some time in the woods and the similarities between the woods and the markets were striking. Forests do not consist of...

What's Going on with this Crazy Market?!
The massive rally of the stock market since March 2009 has been perplexing for many, but the state of confusion has reached new heights as the stock market has surged another +2.0% in May, surpassing the Dow 15,000 index milestone and hovering near all-time record highs. Over the last few weeks, the...
US commercial banks' changing asset mix

The shrinking MBS market
The supply of mortgage-backed securities (MBS) continues to fall behind the potential demand - even with the Fed's taper in place. New issuance has steadily declined over the past year, with the Fed becoming an increasingly larger proportion of that market.
David Swenson: Overview of Yale Method
Came across this recent (April 2012) presentation by David Swenson. He's been the CIO of Yale's endowment since 1985. He starts with an overview of his investment views and then goes on to rebut "Barron's" Criticism of the Swensen Approach to Endowment Management (ie overly diversifying and...
Is Volatility Back?
Yesterday was the worst day on the financial markets for about 5 weeks, coupled with an incredibly good day (for no apparent reason) the day before. March was a very boring month in terms of market movements and April has certainly gotten off to an interesting start. When you look at some of the...
America's Stock Market Thrives Under Democrats?
I found this to be pretty interesting. The general perception seems to be that Democrats are responsible for stifling government regulations, therefore the Republicans are the white knights of the street. This says otherwise. http://www.economist.com/blogs/graphicdetail/2012… Discuss.

Asian Shares mixed; Fed minutes, China PMI in Focus
Asian markets were mixed early on Thursday, as hopes for stimulus out of the U.S. lifted stocks in the region, but a stronger yen weighed on the Japanese market. There was caution ahead of China manufacturing data coming out later in the morning, which will be used to gauge the health of Asia's...
How to answer a question about what's going on in the market?
I recently had an interview where one of the guys asked me to tell me about what's going on in the market and what I do to follow the market. What is the best way of answering this question? Bear Market for Bonds
[quote] FORTUNE -- Guggenheim Partners chief investment officer Scott Minerd is a financial-history buff with a record of making dramatic predictions. In 2005 he warned clients of a looming cataclysm, and then was buying bonds again by October 2008. Those calls have helped the firm -- founded by the...
What's going on in the market today?
DJI, NASDAQ, and S&P are down 0.8, 0.93, 0.97 percentage points respectively. Following the sharp drop during the opening this morning, the market has remained relatively flat, trending slightly higher from the days lows. I figured given the news regarding the unemployment report released last...

Capitalism, Investment, and Weed: You Gonna Get So HIIIGGHHHHH
For struggling industries, capitalism can be a real hose beast. Take an example that's close to my heart: the once plucky journalism. The Federal Trade Commission published a report this month advising the government to financially support the re-invention of journalism because existing newspapers...
why does the market still listen to Moody/S&P ?
the credit rating agencies have shown us how incompetent and corruptible they are, when they blindly rated junk bonds AAA. They are thinking now of downgrading US credit rating... Should we really take those guys seriously ?

Why are most prop firms market makers?
Why do most of the good prop firms have substantial market making operations while almost no hedge funds pursue this strategy? I can't think of any hedge fund besides Citadel that makes markets, while prop shops like Getco , SIG, Jane Street and CTC , are all based around it.

IJT - S&P Smallcap 600
Back in June 2009 I bought this ETF at around 50. It's trading at 81 right now, but with the volatility the market may face in the upcoming months, I wonder if it's time to abandon smallcap positions. I'm not a trader or in AM , so I'm not the best with investing.... Anyone with any insight for me??
THE NEXT CATASTROPHE
So here is the gist of why I am extremely worried. Don't look at this until you have fifteen minutes to digest it all - According to a July 2007 report by AMP Capital Investors, the total value of all sub prime loans was approximately $1.4 trillion, of which only about one-third of outstanding loans...

Chavez is the New Mother Theresa?
Since when can Chavez promise world peace? The dictator in Venezuela has confiscated billions worth of private interests, has nationalized industries, and has ruled with an iron fist over his country for years, exploiting its oil wealth. He has done so poorly, that he has had to de-value his...
