Hi everybody, I applied in early March to the Masters in Financial Analysis at LBS, and I have just been invited to an interview. It will be conducted via Skype, obviously, given the current situation (which I hope will be better enough by September). I must say that I applied last year and didn't even make it to the interview, and I received several other rejections. This year I have grown a lot professionally and my profile is definitively stronger, however, I know I am far from being the best candidate. So I am reaching you guys to ask for some advice regarding the interview process, if

Hello guys, I am an incoming MFin student and I need some advice. I want to reach alumni of my future university to help me get a 2021 SA gig in IB. The thing is that I don't know if it is correct to state in LinkedIn that I'm an incoming student or wait until I start the MSc in September. On the other hand, I want to apply for 2021 SA positions during this next month and I have no clue on how to stress on my CV that I'll be doing the MSc during the academic year 2020/2021. Any insights will be more than welcome!

Coming from complete non-target undergrad and was admitted to Master in Finance program at Vandy and Villanova. Villanova is about $20k less after scholarship and I am leaning towards it for personal reasons (proximity to home, knowing people in Philly area, relationship, cost difference). I am trying to break into IB and long-term PE/Corp Dev in Northeast but not necessarily NYC I know Vandy has better rep for placing into MM IB and seems like it has much more structured program and helpful Career Development Center. Is it that much better than Villanova? Villanova is much less transparent

Mod Note (Andy) - as the year comes to an end we're reposting the top discussions from 2015. This one was originally posted 6/30/2015. I get a ton of emails and answer a ton of posts asking similar questions so I thought I would answer the most common ones I get here and allow others to post their questions so everyone can see them and the subsequent answers. Hope this helps. Summer Analyst Eligibility • The SA position is really structured for undergraduate students. The whole reason undergraduates go for a SA position is because they aren't ready to work full time. If you are in a one year

Hey all, I am a long shot that recently broke in at a very small regional boutique (extremely low GPA, non-target, late interest in finance - hustled and networked my ass off to get a gig). Although I am extremely grateful to have made it this far and I enjoy the work, I am not completely sold on my future at my boutique for a variety of reasons which I can get into if necessary. Now, I am looking to lateral to a much larger firm, however, a lateral from my firm seems extremely unlikely. Recently, I've been looking into getting an MSF from a school like Vanderbilt or Villanova with hopes of

Hi guys, So I'm about to write my master thesis in finance in about 3 months and I haven't really found out anything to write about. I know that I eventually want to land a IBD/PE job, so I would prefer that my subject is towards that career. I will also try to pitch the subject to different companies in hope of an master thesis internship so I need a subject that they can relate/contribute to. I'm stuck and have no clue what to write about. Do you guys have any suggestions what to write about and how it should be layerd/executed? // A fellow colleague

Hey guys, I am currently studying economics at Sciences Po in Paris and I decided not to continue here for my master's, as it seems it is not that recognized in the field of Finance. Ideally I would like to start in either PE or IB in Paris, but I don't mind any other destination. Also I have been doing some parallel studies in mathematics (15 ECTS of Linear Algebra and 15 ECTS of Calculus). I am wondering what are the best B-Schools to reach out for in Europe? I am currently at an exchange in Bocconi and I love it. I am considering HEC, ESSEC, X, ESCP in France, LSE and Oxbridge in the UK

Hi everybody, I am going to pursue either HEC's MIF or IE's MIF. At the moment, I am pretty unsure on what to choose so I would like to get solid opinions and facts about the two programs. What I like of IE is that it has a really practical approach, the professors are great professionals, and some classes are entirely taught in the "trading room" with softwares such as Bloomberg and Reuters, for example (so great chance to learn how to use softwares). On the other hand, HEC is incredibly prestigious (I would say more than IE) and seems to be more prone to get me a top job. But it looks way

The Specialized Programs in Graduate Business are back on the road with a bunch of great upcoming events. I will most likely make it to some, if not all of the East Coast events. This is a great way for anyone interesting in a specialized masters to meet with admissions officers at all the main programs. Good food and drink is also usually offered. I will let everyone know my schedule also in case people would like to discuss programs or meet me in person. Booyah! Georgetown just announced that they are starting an online MSF. I would imagine this is the first step towards offering an on campus version. This is great news for anyone looking for a remote education and will compete nicely with the Indiana program. I have a couple emails out to people and will try and learn more, but I wanted to let everyone know as this is pretty exciting news. http://www.marketwire.com/press-release/georgetown-universitys-mcdonoug…

I get countless questions this time a year regarding MSF admissions and what they look for when students apply. As always, I answer all of these questions, but there are some very common ones which I think would benefit everyone if I answered them here for all to see. As with my other post I will monitor this thread and answer any follow on questions. Hope this helps. Resume

Hello Peeps, I am considering an MSF program in Texas. A bit about myself, I have almost six years of experience. 3 in M&A and 2.5 in CRE Underwriting. I was looking to apply for an MSF but wanted to hear whether my 5+ years of experience is sought after or if it will work against me given that the mean age is 24 years for the program with 1-2 years of experience for the average candidate. I plan to do this while being my full-time M&A gig (possible)? Also, student loans.... I think scholarships are what I will be depending on. Let me know your thoughts!

Hey everyone. Figured I would create a Class of 2014 thread for everyone thinking about applying for next years MSF programs. Good place to ask questions, compare profiles and meet others who are applying.

Hey everyone, as there is a similiar topic about US application to MFin programmes, I thought People would also like to discuss applications and strengths/weaknesses of the European programmes. I know that most universities are just starting their application process, but, at least to me, it would be interesting to hear who was invited to an interview and where everyone is applying. Also, if People are interested, I think it would be good idea to start collecting application Deadlines. I'll make a start, I am currently in the process of applying to LSE and St Gallen (MBF). Just wanted to give all your MSF'ers a heads up that the West Coast has another program starting up. Hopefully USC will roll their program out and then you will have 3 great programs to choose from. http://www.heraldonline.com/2013/02/20/4634732/two-new-masters-degrees-… I posted it on my website also.

Hi, I am considering studying the master in Finance at Nova School of Business & Management and I would like to know some opinions & references. What are the career prospects? I would like to pursue a career in financial markets area (preferably in IB or AM). I don't mind working in a specific city. Despite London and Madrid are my preferences. I have studied a degree in Business Administration & Management in Spain, I think studying 1.5 years in Lisbon could be a fantastic opportunity to learn Portuguese. Preparing meanwhile CFA Level I. It's a business school with 5 palms of excellence in

Hi, I am from SE Asia and was admitted to OSU and UIUC MSF(2016). I find it difficult for me to decide between these two programs and would really like to hear from you. For OSU MSF, its small class size and higher percentage of domestic students attract me. For UIUC MSF, the school has better QS ranking, but I am really concerned about the unbalanced student composition (composed almost entirely of international students). For both programs, I am concerned about post master job prospect.... After all, it doesn't make economic sense if I end up doing similar back office job after finishing a master's degree. Here are some of my stats: Undergraduate : Business major ,GPA: 3.5~last 60 :3.8 GMAT: 720 TOEFL:103 WE: Back office job in investment banking(JP Morgan)

I would like to know if a master of science in finance would be useful given my background and goals. -I'm an industrial engineering student. Will complete my undergraduate degree this year. -My target schools are IE, ESADE, EADA, HEC Paris and LBS. -I would like to pursue jobs related to investment/fund/portfolio analysis and management. I'm also worried because some people have told me that a Msc in finance is not an impressive degree, and people who pursue masters in finance often end selling insurance. What are your thoughts on this?

Which programme is better in terms of acquiring a job in Asset Management and consequently in a hedge fund abroad after graduation? Got the offers in all these unis. I am a finance undergrad from Russia, 6 months semi-related work experience (finance, business analysis, marketing management). The programmes are EDHEC MSc Financial Markets, RSM MSc Finance and Investments, NHH (Norwegian School of Economics) MSc Finance, LSE MSc Financial Statistics. Would be very grateful for your advice!!!

Looking into several MSF programs. I want to end up in Dallas, so naturally UT-Dallas is appealing. Does anyone have any info as far as placement records or know if many Dallas HFs or Bulge Brackets recruit from this program? The info on their website is very limited. Any help would be much appreciated. I am sure to get in to Vandy and Nova, but would consider UT if recruiting was great, even if a lower tier school. How strong is the UT Dallas MS in Finance? UT Dallas does not have the best placement among

Hi all, I recently got accepted at IE in their Master in Finance program. I also applied to the Mphil Finance at Judge B-School (Cambridge) and await a reply in March 2010. I would like to work in London for some time after graduation or Asia. I also know LSE have a good Finance program. I wonder which one of the 3 is more regarded when it comes to Investment Management or PE/VC. Can someone shed light on this and give advice. Thank you a lot in advance!

Hi, so I am interested in pursuing a Master in Finance. Can anyone tell me how does WHU stands in comparison to FSFM, IE and Cass. Would you say WHU to be prestigious in Germany? I am mostly looking to enter IB or PE in Frankfurt/ London. Would WHU be the ideal choice as I know WHU is targeted mostly for IB/ PE. Also do students from WHU break into BB IBD in London?

I am hesitating between HEC and EDHEC Msc Finance. I know that HEC probably has a better name and it offers the best Msc in finance, according to Financial Times. However, I've also heard that EDHEC has an excellent research centre and their Master in Finance has been called the "best in France". FT's also published an article about the programme. I've got a really competitive scholarship offer from EDHEC (40% of tuition), but basically nothing from HEC. What should I do? Should I consider going to EDHEC instead of HEC? How good is actually EDHEC Msc in finance? Any relevant info, suggestion

Hi there, Currently, I have two offers one at Cass and other at Durham. The atmosphere tells me to go Cass although, academically Durham may be better right? and is 15K less. Also, I do not know about Durham city. Exeter, StAndrews ,Edinburgh have offered me, but Cass and Durham seem above by what I read, noticing that all unis are semitargets.
