Wow, looks like MSIM will try to compete with Vanguard and BlackRock and they were willing to pay quite a premium to do so. This pushes AUM to over $1Tn. Thoughts on this deal? Where does this place MSIM in the AM space? Will this have any effect on new hires/internships?

I have read a few places that MS will not be doing or have already completed 2021 FT recruitment (For Spring 2021 Grads). Interested in applying to a position, but it is not open on their website, does anyone think it will open soon/at all? Thank You.

Hey, I recently verbally accepted an offer for the 2021 Summer analyst position at MS for investment management fixed income (I know this is IB but still) and was very happy since this is my dream job-going into the buy side was more preferable for me and I wanted to learn from a BB. I have also been interviewing for GS but probably will cancel interviews now that I verbally accepted, since I prefer their culture, people, etc. However I spoke to a professor at my school who's been in the industry for years and he said MS is good but only a quarter as good as GS which is in another league. He

Hi y'all, I got less suited for SJT but easier for both numerical and inductive.. I literally feel so dumb rn.. does this mean that im getting filtered out? or do I still maybe possibly have a chance? I'm from a European target (think bocconi/esade/lse) and my school said that they will send the students' resumes out to the recruiters, will this help at all with my situation (maybe bypass the assessment tests somehow??) thank you for all ur inputs and good luck to everyone

Hi guys/gals. Anyone who did the HireVue for Morgan Stanley 2021 SA S&T in either FI/IED S&T or PBCS yet? If so, would you mind sharing the questions? It almost seems eerie that I can easily find IB questions in the most 3 recent years - which appears to be unchanged - without even a single post even inquiring for S&T. I heard from an alum that apps are not even gonna be looked at until July but somehow my dumbass still do it early. Anyhow thank you for the help!!

The portal says: apply for up to 3 different programs in one recruitment year in each region (Asia Pacific, Europe, Middle East, and Africa, Americas); the programs can be in 3 different cities. That means I can apply 3 programs in total and each program should be in different locations? Or I can apply 9 programs in total (3 programs per each region)? Am I the only one that's being confused with that..?

Has anyone applied to or have any insight into the 2020 Morgan Stanley Early Insights Program in New York?
02 Feb 2020
Does anyone know if Morgan Stanley drug tests college grads who start straight out of school? They mentioned they perform a pre-employment process consisting of a background check, but did not indicate anything else. If there is a test, does it occur close to the start date or could it happen even 6 months out from the start date (now)? Appreciate any answers that address the question without judgement. Thanks.

Did anyone apply to this position yet? It seems new. Is it the same as the other SA programs for Morgan Stanley? Did anyone do the hirevue yet??

Whenever I was asked this question, I never gave a bullshit answer. I said that obviously the hours aren't a pro of working in this industry, but its not something that i necessarily mind and it will help me learn a lot. I also brought up my student loan debt and that I really wanted to pay it off. Interested to hear other perspectives on this.

Anyone have any insight into the Morgan Stanley APAC 2021 Hireview? Is it a mix of competency and technical? How many questions do they ask in the 20 minutes provided?

I was wondering if it is harder to land an offer from an elite boutique (Lazard, Moelis, Perella Weinberg, etc) or from a Bulge Bracket (Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, BofA Merrill Lynch, etc)?

If you were given offers for these summer internships, which one would you choose and why? (With Citi converting around 80% of interns and Morgan Stanley converting 50% to grad offers).

I just recently finished my freshman year with just above a 3.7 GPA at a target school and I want to double major in either Math and Economics OR Math and Philosophy (and maybe add a minor if I have time). I'm also involved in 4 organizations on campus, and I'm on a committee for 3 of them. 3 of the orgs are also business related. As I'm going into my sophomore year, I'm curious what exactly I need to do to make myself stand out to most banks and have a shot at the top ones. I'm currently doing a financial services internship so I'm getting experience but I'm also debating if I should take a

I've been in contact with someone in MS's transportation group recently. I was looking up info on the group and the most recent post on here is from a decade ago. Since it's recruiting season, was hoping that someone can speak a bit more to the group - culture, "rankings/prestige" whatever you wanna call it, dealflow (there's not a ton online about them)

I've got a second round as seen from the title. On the MS website for EMEA, it seems that pre-corona there was one first round interview by phone and then straight to final round. So is this "second round" phone the final round? It would seem weird for it to just be a 30 min phone but at the same time there is nothing mentioned on their website about intermediate rounds between first and final. Would really welcome anyone who has been successful this year to share their experience. Thanks.

Anyone else invited to their SuperDay? Not sure what to expect as this is my first BB super day. What should I be studying up for?

I know this site obsesses over GS/JPM/MS a lot, but how much "better" are they compared to other BBs (C/CS/BARC/BAML/UBS/DB) on the street regarding (1) culture (2) workload (3) pay (4) structure? Is the difference just blown out of proportion on this site, or are the banks actually a lot more similar than people like to describe? I've heard mixed reviews, where some say it's night and day, others who say most banks give similar experiences. Minus prestige, are "lower-tier" banks really that different from "mid-tier" and "top" banks? Would love to hear from anyone who has experienced both

Background info: I am a Finance major in my senior year at a non-target university, with a less than desirable GPA. I've managed to hedge my poor academic decision making with quality experience on my resume, in the form of a stock analyst internship at an RIA firm in the area, and a Lead Analyst position in my Student Investment Club Research Team. I graduate in May 2020. My career end goal is to get to Wall St., and exit into PE., but I'm aware it's going to take a longer and more complicated path than most. I am trying to determine my best path to this goal. I am currently faced with this

Do some elite schools such as Goldman, Morgan Stanley, or JPM send some of their professionals back to school at elite universities for professional growth? I've heard some firms reimburse their employee's tuition or even have partnerships with some schools.

Did anyone get the 2019 SA MS HireVues yet? I just got it today. Could someone explain the process further, and give me some tips? (I am a rising sophomore so this is my first interview) Also, was getting the HireVue a selective process? I got it for more than one position so should I assume it was not selective, or at least related to the resume and not to the divisions?

Could somebody please make a bulleted list of all of the bulge bracket banks and include the core competencies for each bank at what they're best at? This would be to everyone's benefit who wants to learn the "scoop" on each of the big players

In two days I will have interviews at Morgan Stanley. This will be with the BNS team. Does anyone have tips for this interview? Maybe know some brain teasers? I heard the like to give you really hard calculations, does anyone have experience with this? Think of numbers to the power 3 etc... I will also have interviews at JP and GS, maybe some tips? I am not really a die hard finance girl and I only have the breaking into wall street guide. Maybe some tips for the pymetrics test at JP as well!

I am fortunate enough to have a FT IBD offer from MS to start in July 2019, only two weeks after my university course ends. I have always had in the back of my mind that I would like to take a year off and travel the world and it seems that once the 'rat-race' starts, it's very difficult to step back from it and take some proper time off, at least until retirement ( minus a potential short period of gardening leave here and there and maybe a summer during an MBA) . I would really appreciate any advice or opinions on whether I should take a year off and in particular, will it affect my career

Hi all, This entertaining post is for the history and financial history monkeys out there. What is your favorite financier of the past and why? Most of us have read about the Weinbergs and Rohatyns of the past but I'd like to hear about the less known but equally inspiring figures of the 20th century and older. Cheers! Torero

First time poster - just trying to get some good advice on where would be a better place to start a career within IBD in London specifically. Holding offers from both for their Spring Programme for University students. I know very early days but they clash so have to make a decision. Interested in Summer Analyst / Analyst experience at each and breadth of exit opportunities. Not too worried about pay or relative 'rankings.' Thanks very much any opinions really appreciated.

Anyone have experience with modeling tests for analyst/associate position here? They mentioned it would take 4-5 hours in total. Not sure what that would entail.

Looking to clear something up--there's a lot of hype surrounding MS M&A (rightly so), and somewhat less hype surrounding MS Tech in Menlo. When people refer to MS Tech M&A (in Menlo), does that fall under the general M&A group? Thx Edit: if M&A is separate from Menlo Tech M&A, does the general M&A group have a presence in Menlo? Or is it confied to NYC?

Hi guys, I am in a weird situation and would love to hear out some opinions. Two months ago, I started working as and IBD analyst at one of the top 3 IB banks in their NYC HQ. However, I managed to get (what I believe is) a better job opportunity for me in the meantime and now I am thinking about quitting the IB to join the other company. Honestly, the work I have now is not so bad, but I feel like it's not for me in the long term (the hours, culture, some parts of the work...), whether the other opportunity feels quite perfect. If I had it three months ago I would choose it over my current

Hi, Wondering about two specific offers I have and what makes more sense in the long run- BlackRock ETF & Index Investing or MS IB. If I wanted to go buyside eventually does starting at BlackRock help me or hinder me at all? Is the ETF/Index Investing team a better opportunity than just IB? What's potential career paths/salaries?

Hi all, So I'm currently in the process of preparing to go into IB (am a junior in college). I obviously know that your "story" is crucial for the interview process and can make you or break you. However, I've read conflicting suggestions on how long it should be. Some people have told me that it should be between 45 - 60 seconds. Others have said 2 - 3 minutes, and one person even said to go for a full 5 minutes. Can anyone tell me what's worked for them in interviews in terms of "story" length? I feel like 60 seconds is the sweet spot but I'm not sure... Thanks in advance!

Hello WSO, Not completely new here, but first post. Basically after a LOT of work and many ups and downs I managed to secure a position as an i banker at one of the top three after graduation (perhaps one day I'll write my "success story"). Before I start with them later this year, I am currently studying for the GMAT as I now consider that with a good score I actually have a shot at getting into one of the top 5, and the score is valid for 5 years. While researching I found that so many people want top MBAs to be able to have a shot at firms like the top 3 i banks. I can't find much about

Can someone talk about Morgan Stanley's reputation (culture, actions)? People always mention things about Goldman's culture and their unity. I'm curious what people in the business think about MS. What are is the general talk about the people that work there and how they run their business. Thanks in advance!

Hi folks, a college sophomore thinking about working in finance here. I just started to build my network in this field. So I successfully connected to an alumni who worked in MS HK office in Equity Research division, his title is Equity Strategist and we'll make a phone call next week. So before our talk, I would like to get some background info so that I won't look stupid. What does this kind of role do day to day? Is that a front desk/mid-desk/back-desk? What are the ex-ops? I also realized not all firms have Strats roles, only GS, MS and a few other so this makes me more confused. While GS

I would like to ask some questions about the banking industry in canada, banking compensation, and the banking lifestyle. Here are some of my questions; What are the best firms to work for in Canada (Toronto specifically) ? What is the dealflow like? GoldmanSachs or RBC for a longterm career in TO? Salaries at different firms ? Do you get an office, if so when? And feel free to add as much of your personnal experience as possible!

Can anyone here confirm this? Dealbreaker is reporting that some Morgan Stanley analysts, upon learning that their bonuses were far "below street" walked out in anger. [quote]Morgan Stanley announced bonuses today. Associates on upward are satisfied. Analysts are universally furious, with total compensation in some cases being $20k below street. For 2nd years making $90k base, buckets were as follows: $58k (less than one per group) $48k (very few) $43k (average, probably 70%+ of analysts) $38k $10-15k (obvious worst performers) Considering that street seems to be $60k bonus for middle bucket

Hello All, Just for fun, I thought it would be interesting to get everyone's take on the top 10 groups in investment banking considering reputation, dealflow, senior leaders within group, overall prestige, etc. I totally recognize this is subjective and shouldn't be used as a way to make employment decisions. With that said, what are YOUR top 10 groups across BB, EB, MM, etc?

Did anyone else get an invite to this? Do you know if it's networking with general people at the firm or people from your school's team?

I'm a college senior at an Ivy skating through the end of my senior year, awaiting the upcoming summer where I will begin as an Analyst in a top BB Group (think GS TMT, GS HC/CR, GS FIG, MS Menlo, MS M&A). I've been thinking about my options as far as the next couple years, and with the group I'm working in, there are options to work internationally, potentially for a 3rd year as an analyst in a good European group within the European branch of the firm. I would really like to spend a year abroad, as I studied abroad in an intensive program during school and really enjoyed it, and I think work

I currently have multiple offers from BBs in Hong Kong (to preserve anonymity, I won't say which ones, but a few are considered here "top BBs"). I know the US reputations of the BBs, but are things the same/different in Asia (for example, is GS TMT still considered the best, followed by MS M&A)? None of the offers is group-specific, and my only considerations are reputation and exit opps to PE megafunds in Asia (KKR, Carlyle, Bain Cap, etc.). With that in mind, how would you rank the BBs in Asia?

I'm a second/third year analyst at a BB Private Bank in the Southeast US, and need advice on where to take my career from here. The way I see it these are my options at the moment: - Climb the ladder at my current bank and try to move internally - Go to business school (would only go to top 15) - Find a job elsewhere doing something I enjoy The pay is great and all, but the it's not the path I want my career trajectory to take. The technical aspect just isn't there, lots of mundane administrative duties, old/bad technology, and I'm afraid continuing in PB/PWM will hinder my future career

Have an upcoming superday with MS HK for IBD. Anyone had superday with MS HK before? What to expect on the superday?

Hey, New to WSO and am looking to recruit for a SA internship next fall. I go to a target school in the east coast but am originally from LA. I decided that I'll probably stay in the west coast upon graduation. I'm looking to ultimately recruit for PE after my analyst stint, therefore Financial Sponsors is probably the group I'm most interested in. I know the west coast has some solid FSG shops, but was wondering if someone can fill me in? As I don't go to school here, it's a bit hard to know. Been reading through the forums but many of them are outdated and I would like some more feedback
