Emory B-School (Goizeuta) Prestige?
Hey guys. I will be attending Emory University next year, and am strongly considering the undergrad business school, Goizeuta, for junior and senior year (it's a 2 year school). I'm wondering how "prestigious" the b-school is - how reputable is it on Wall-Street and in I-Banking firms? Thank you.
New Trends
With bulge bracket analyst classes being in the hundreds and boutique classes being in the teens-thirties, there is no doubt that (elite) boutiques are being more selective on talent/fit. In fact, this year I saw a lot of the brightest kids in my class go to Greenhill , Evercore , Lazard etc......
Open a Franchise?
So there is no real good board for this question, but this is the closest. Anyway, I was wondering what peoples' thoughts were on opening a commercial retail franchise like a McD's or a 7-11. Zero prestige in it obviously, but if you're good at the job and can open and run multiple locations it...
The Prestige Race
I know this forum and Wall Street as a whole places a large premium in prestige, and so have I (not willingly but just the way I was raised I guess) but it's really a race you cannot win. Remember how happy you were when you got into Harvard, Yale, or Princeton? Well, once you get in, you're not...
Piper Jeffries & Co.
So... what is the impression of Jefferies nowadays? I remember back in the Leveraged Sellout days, Jefferies was the brunt of most WSO (IBO back then) jokes. What about now? Jefferies has grown since then, and it's deals are bigger than before. http://www.jefferies.com/2010notables/ Is Jefferies...
Good advice from Steve Jobs
This is for all those who think prestige is überall.
Trading and Prestige
Does the brand name or the prestige of the firm matter as much if you are a junior trader as opposed to an IBD analyst? I figure your specific group's performance and your PnL would matter a lot more than the prestige of your bank's name. Am I correct or no? Specifically, I'm talking about a job in...
Settling a retarded "prestige" issue bet
Magna cum Laude vs. Summa cum Laude: does it matter? both check the box, right? so an applicant with one has 0 advantage from this over another, if they are from the same target? Not to sound defensive but Magna > Summa in the sense that the person was not a total grade whore.
bullshit breakdown (for prospective monkeys)
Breaking down the bullshit for the prospective monkeys! Any questions, feel free to ask on here on PM me. Department: IBD at a major BB , London office Number of girls that I've managed to sleep with as a direct result of working at a bank: 0 (got with 1 - she worked in IBD and wouldn't put out)...
The Prestige
The Prestige Recently, I've become inundated with questions/concerns regarding prestige from recent grads working without banking offers and analysts that have been laid off but still lined up jobs. I've also seen a few posts on WSO with people letting off steam regarding prestige and working in...
Prestige of Bankers in LA and SF?
So we all know that replying with "Investment Banking" to the question "What do you do?" in New York will make ladies swoon and guys jealous. New York City is built off finance and rightfully celebrates its toolish and prestige-whoring Investment Bankers. However, what about the other cities? Will...
Does Prestige Matter At All When Studying Abroad
So I'm thinking about trying a study abroad program, but my school doesn't have super-prestigious institutes to do it at. All I have are: -Copenhagen Business School -Bristol (I'd be doing econ and maybe a bit of finance there) -Warsaw School of Economics -National University in Singapore (again,...
Prestige of Lehman and Bear before they collapsed
We all know about Lehman and Bear and how they collapsed. But probably most people who are just graduating or just started working don't really know what was "FEELING" of saying "I got an offer from Lehman" or "I work at Bear" in 2004, 2005. We were just starting college in those years and we didn't...
Which school for accounting?
I want to go into banking. I've come to a point where I'm thinking of going back to school for a masters in accounting next fall, to get a shot at recruiting. I'm a class of 09 grad, so I'll have 1 yr work experience going into school(economics related, but not finance). I've shortlisted a few...

How are these banks?
Anyone have an idea how these banks are looked upon, deal flow, etc. Thomas Weisel Partners GCA Savvian Lincoln International Robert Baird
"The New Kings of Wall Street"
It seems that the trend we are seeing is indicative of what is to come in terms of an emerging global super league of investment banks. If you look at hiring patterns, potential compensation/bonus payouts, government ownership, market share growth, reputation,(i.e. the weak vs. the strong) then you...
Moving up the ranks
So I will be interning at a boutique investment bank this summer as I unfortunately could not secure a position with a Big 4 accounting firm. Given the level of prestige of working in accounting, what do you beleive my chances are of breaking into the industry if I work in banking this summer. Any...
Is FBR taken seriously?
Hey, I was wondering if anyone takes FBR seriously. They were once considered a pretty good boutique I think, as they handled smaller deals (especially during tech boom and other stuff in D.C. area) They were trading at 0.21 cents as of closing price today, although the group they spun off, FBCM...
Middle Market Rising?
As the standalone bulge bracket investment bank becomes a thing of the past, what will be the affect on the prestige and position of the dominant middle market banks ( Lazard , HL , etc.)?
