Is it wrong to network with people on the opposite side of a deal?
The title is pretty self-explanatory. Working at a PE firm for the summer and often see either very interesting opposing sponsors or top-tier advisors for the sell-side team. Given I'm aiming for an IB spot out of undergrad, would it be wrong to network with the sellside advisors? Appreciate any...

Question about carry statistics in PE compensation report
This PE compensation report gives a dollar amount for carry (bottom of page 16, for example). What does this number mean? Is it paid over the duration of the fund?
Crowdfunding LMM deals
After working on two deals as a fundless sponsor, and seeing the booming interest in the SMB space I've been tinkering with a new project. A crowdfunding platform to raise LP funds for typical LMM PE deals. The platform could allow syndicators (or fundless sponsors) to bring deals to the table, and...
Do most BB analysts leave after their 2nd year or 3rd year?
Curious as to if most BB analysts leave after their 2nd or 3rd year for PE . Is it better to leave after your 2nd or 3rd, does it matter? Are most full-time analyst programs 2 or 3 years? I seem to see mixed things on this, I have seen many analysts stay 3 years then leave, or stay 2 years an leave....

Hey WSO: I wanted to get a second opinion on my next potential career move. Personal background: Graduated from top target 2 years ago, went to a megafund (BX / KKR / Carlyle) out of college, been here since. Right now I work with top tier talent on smart deals, and make decent bank...but I just...
People who have worked at both PE and AM: which job did you think was more fulfilling?
Lets disregard pay for now. Which job did you think was more fulfilling? Reading through previous posts it seems to me that people that got into PE were left disappointed because instead of real "investing responsibilities", most of their time was spent on managing deals. As for AM , there's not a...

LBO and leases
Hey monkeys, I am doing an LBO model and the company has a fairly significant amount of leases as a result of IFRS 16 accounting. The leases should be included in EV and net debt. As the leases will be rolled over, how do I take this into account in the model? It is included in EV so it is included...
Should I switch to trading from M&A?
I'm currently an M&A intern at a small boutique in Europe, but I have recently applied for a trading position at a prop trading firm in the NL. How to get more interaction with PE clients?

Value Buy-out vs Growth Buy-out Discussion from Associate Perspective
With PE on-cycle coming up I thought it'd be a good time to have a discussion on the Pros and Cons of Growth Buy-out vs. Value Buy-out Private Equity from an Associate perspective. I'm trying to hear some people's perspectives on which style of Buy-out firm they'd prefer to work for. I'm...
Micro private equity + real estate
Hi all, I currently buy distressed properties and renovate them to hold or sell, backed by 2 investors I know personally (the only people I know with money, 1 family, 1 family friend). VC/PE MBA Summer Associate Exit Opps
I'm an MBA student at a top 20 school just finishing up my first year. I was initially recruiting for IB , but wasn't able to secure an offer. Then the market tanked and a lot of companies (across all industries) stopped interviewing for summer internships. I managed to get a last minute internship...

Hi all - I work in a small boutique that mainly advises on buyside M&A in the middle market. Currently in the midst of PE recruiting, and obviously reviewing my models as a result. Where Tech Private Equity Firms Are Investing During Corona
We know that one day we are going to get out on the other side of this crisis. And almost without a doubt, we will be in a somewhat new tech landscape with the push to virtualization, distanced work and learning and possibly VR. What spaces are private equity firms looking to spend in order to avoid...

Context: I am studying engineering (may transfer to CS or business) at a semi-target school and over the past year, I have been doing my best to narrow down what I want to do in the future, but I am still undecided. Currently, I am working at a small, local PE firm and I enjoyed my experience...
path to PE: small IB-> BB/EB-> PE or small PE-> lateral PE?
hi all, I'm one year out of undergrad and I'm trying to eventually pivot to PE from my current field, which is completely a irrelevant/non-finance field. So, if my eventual goal is a big or UMM PE , should I try to find some unknown/random 1-10 people IB shop to do an off-cycle internship or 1 year...
