I have Series 7 and 63 licenses from institutional trading. I'm looking to transition to a stockbroker role. Think Scottrade, TD Ameritrade, etc. How would you explain why the switch from trading to financial advisory? Also, if they ask what do you plan on doing with this role long term, my goal would be to move into a role where I'm servicing active traders ie options, forex, futures traders. Also, block trading for institutions. Is this the right thing to say? Has anyone done this successfully? Moved from trading to brokerage then moved to active or block trading inside the brokerage? Thanks

After getting through the 79 I'm required to get this. Anyone taken it before? How difficult? Is Knopman the best prep for this as well or is STC better? What is the Series 63 Exam? The Series 63 is a securities license entitling the holder to solicit orders for any type of security in a particular state. The applicant must pass an exam which also requires a display of ethical practices and fiduciary duties. This is the exam that is needed to facilitate and soliciate securities orders. MOD NOTE: HILARIOUS WSO SPAM FAIL I want to share a great opportunity and my experience with a program I have recently completed. I took a class to attain my license for the Series 7, through a 4 day preparation class and how I got a job through the program. I took this class because I am interested in working as a Wall Street stock broker and i was always into trading. The instructor was very kind to tell me every thing I needed to know to ace the exams (It also didn't hurt that it was a 100% pass guarantee or you can retake the course for free until you pass). The instructor was also very helpful in assisting me with any questions I had about Wall Street or finance.

Hi all, I'm taking the series 63 in a couple weeks and I was wondering which which prep I should use: Knopman or STC (or do both suck)? Also, which package should I buy? Should I even bother with lectures or should I stick with the self study guide (Flashcards, manual, and Final Exams only). Thx.

I recently got offer for equity research. As part of the position, I am required to take the Series 7 and Series 63 exam. How should I prepare for these exams? Are there any good exam prep materials I should use? WSO Series 7 Prep Course Here

Hello, I am starting a full time Analyst position in NYC this summer at a BB Private Bank. I know that I will need to take the Series 7 and pass. When will I need to take the exam (ie. within a few months of my start date)? Can I take it before I start my position? Am I supposed to be "sponsored" or anything like that (I thought someone mentioned something like that to me)? Also, will I need to take the Series 63? I know HR will tell me everything I need to know soon, enough. I'm just hoping to get a leg up now that I'm taking an easy course load second semester. Thanks very much for your help

I am starting at a BB in a few weeks as a new associate out of bschool and was wondering if anyone would recommend studying for the Series 79 and/or 63 before I start. I know I'll have time and resources to study in training but have any of you regretted waiting until then to study for it?

I work on the Sales and Trading desk for a small broker dealer that does municipal bonds only. I passed my Series 52 a year ago. Do I need my Series 63 in order to speak with customers in sales and trading capacity?

I'm working at a boutique IB and have both my series 7 and 63. Are there any other FINRA administered licenses worth getting? I would like to add something to my resume other then the CFA. Also, has anyone heard of getting your AVA (Accredited Valuation Analyst)? It is supposed to be easier and quicker then the CFA. I'm thinking about that as well.

I wanted to get some feedback from experienced people who have seen this. Although you may not be on that side of the business (anything sales related or security product related), does anyone know what's the rule on this? Once your licenses expire and you have no intention of reviving them, do you leave them on your resume and just note "expired", or should they come off entirely? Does it depend? Thx.

I recently quit my job due to pay cuts. I took my Series 7 on Feb, 4 2011 and 63 on Feb 11th, 2011. To my understanding they expire 2 years later, so on Feb 4, 2013 and Feb 11, 2013 respectively. Is there any way I can do the CE without have a firm sponsor them or table them somehow? Every time I call FINRA they do not help.

My new job requires that I take the Series 6 and 63 exams within three weeks in order to maintain employment going forward. I am new to the financial sector, but am excited about the opportunity to learn about the markets and talk with clients about investment strategies. How difficult are both exams, and will not having a finance background hinder my ability to do well on them?

Hi, I've read the STC series 63 study manual, done their flashcards and practice exams and I've noticed that a bunch of their material extremely trivial. I couldn't imagine that a short, 60 question exam would require you know half of it. I've also noticed their practice exams are full of typos and grammar mistakes. Should I just rely on investopedia's practice exam and study guide?

I am a licensed Finra member working for a broker dealer. I have my Series 6 and 63. How do I go about sitting for the Series 65? My firm will not sponsor me for it. I have a U4 so the U10 is not an option. I purchased the study material myself and am ready to sit. What do I do?

Hi guys, just thought I'd jump on here and see if anyone can help answer some questions. I entered into the financial planning field about 3 years ago at the suggestion of a friend to get my licenses. However, I only received my life and health before I went on to leave the company and start my own insurance brokerage. Now I am getting to the point of wanting to more of the investment side of things and am again hit with the "what to do" question.

I just started a new job and they want me to take the Series 99 exam tomorrow (less than a week before CFA Level 1 -_- ) I've been using Kaplan's online practice exams and read their book. Has anyone taken the 99 before? I'm wondering how similar Kaplan and the exam are/what ways you studied. I also have to take Series 7 & 63 soon so any advice for those helps as well.

Anyone have suggestions about ways to get my hands on these guides or which ones are worth the money? I don't really want to have to buy them if at all possible, but I'd like to knock these exams out in the next month or so.
