I'm lucky enough to have Full-Time Analyst offers for Investment Banking from both Evercore NYC M&A and PJT NYC M&A. I know I'm splitting hairs here but I'm just wondering if any of you have thoughts if one firm is slightly better positioned in terms of exit opportunities into PE mega-funds (Apollo, Blackstone, Warburg, KKR, TPG, Bain, Carlyle) as well as top MBA programs (Harvard, Stanford, Wharton)? Appreciate any insight!

Hi All, I'm an MBA student at Stanford organizing AMAs on Zoom with three classmates of mine who are former bankers and PE rockstars. We'll set up a video conference for you to ask them any questions you have, whether they are about breaking into banking, working at top PE funds, getting into a top MBA program, or anything else. If you are interested in joining the AMAs, please email me at [email protected] and tell me which panelist your most interested in connecting with. Please also throw some bananas at this post or comment on it so people see it. We will only move forward with the Q&A

Doing this for my older brother... He doesn't think he has a good shot at a top B school, I feel like he does. Undergrad: Wharton (Class of 2014) GPA: 3.25 GMAT: 730 Work: He did some low key internships with family friends Joined the Navy Special Warfare (Seals) directly after college, is leaving this winter and will look for B-schools next year after some relaxation. He thinks that his GPA is too low for Harvard/Stanford/Wharton even with a military background and what seems to me like a good GMAT, and wants to only look at McCombs, Duke, etc. I think he'd be a good candidate at Harvard

Hi all, I am a student at Kelley business school at Indiana University. I am looking to pursue a career in investment banking and I know that Kelley is not a target school for most banks. However, I heard that a lot of Kelley grads get recruited by William and Blair which is in Chicago. How realistic would working for William and Blair for a couple years and then going to get my MBA at a bigger school such as Stanford, Harvard, or Columbia be? Assuming that I do well at Kelley right now.

Hello, I am considering applying for the 2+2 MBA program at HBS and Deferred MBA at GSB, and I wanted to know if I have a decent shot before I spend the time writing essays and asking for recommenders. Here is some info: * Senior Undergrad at USC / UCLA / ND / Georgetown tier school (graduating in May) with full scholarship * 3.7 GPA, Computer Science & Business Admin Major * 5 internships, including as a software engineering intern at Google * Will be returning to Google as a software engineer upon graduation * Taking GRE Jan 4th 2019, but my SAT was ~2300/2400 (with 800 math and 800 writing)

Hey Guys, I am wondering if any of u know any particular tricks for getting accepting into a top MBA Program. Tricks, such as- when applying for upenn for undergraduate (but really want to go to Wharton), the school statistics have shown that students are far more likely to get accepted if they apply into the college, as something like econ major, and then apply to internally transfer to wharton. thats just one example Was wondering if anyone else had any tips or strategies for better chances of admissions to a top MBA program. Thanks,

Hello monkeys, Wanna B MBB's Q&A depressed me (very strong credentials / similar to mine, no interview at even Wharton), and got me thinking - there has to be some clever strategies to earn acceptance to HBS or Stanford. So, I'm turning to the out-of-the-box thinkers on this forum to generate some strategies. What we're working with: Currently, my profile is a 3.8 Econ major (4.0 in major) from top 50 US News undergrad, ), 780 GMAT, not URM, approaching 2 years of experience at a top tier 2 consulting shop (Deloitte S&O, Strategy&, Oliver Wyman, etc.). I'm currently trying to decide whether or not to attend Stanford or Princeton for undergrad. I want to eventually work on wall street in NYC after graduation. But I also have some interest in entrepreneurship, although I don't consider myself very techie, so if I did play a role in startups, it would be on the more management/marketing side. At the moment, I definitely see myself more on wall street than in a startup/tech company, although both are possibilities. Knowing this, which school should I go to? In addition, how is Stanford's presence on the east coast in terms of finance. I know how

Interesting article about those fortunate enough to get accepted into multiple top MBA programs, and where they ultimately decide to go. Stanford beats out Harvard 56% to 22% of the time, and 22% choose to attend other MBA programs. Who in their right mind would get accepted to Harvard Business School and turn it down? Turns out the answer is: someone who also got into Stanford.

This is consistent with what I've been hearing from inside sources for a number of years. That dual admits long used to split about 50/50 but that recently (for a few years now) it is heavily in Stanford's favor to the tune of 3:1. [quote]"These choices are closely guarded secrets in the world of MBA admissions, but for the first time Bloomberg Businessweek today (Jan. 28) sorted through its most recent survey data to find answers to these often agonizing decisions... Would appreciate any help in regards to my chances of getting into a top 10 MBA Program: Stats: 2.4 GPA (top 50 Uni - 4 years out of school) 760 GMAT Started own NPO Started own company out of college that grosses 2 m/yr and employs 5 people Now in Sales/Relationship Management at large US Bank I know the GPA is low but how much will my GMAT, EC's, and work experience help offset it? Wait...what? Can they do that??? Apparently they can. Stanford's Graduate School of Business has rescinded Matthew Martoma's 2001 offer of admission, effectively saying he never attended grad school there, and thereby no longer has an MBA from the vaunted institution. How's that for revisionist history? No word yet on whether Stanford will be returning the estimated $165,000 they charged Martoma to attend. To be fair to the school, Martoma is a world-class shitheel who was thrown out of Harvard Law for faking a transcript before changing his name and heading out to Palo Alto. That's to say

This post is for those of you who are into technology and/or entrepreneurship (and those who take a measure of sadistic glee in my personal failings in life, I suppose). If that's not you, I'll see you tomorrow. Chuck Eesley is getting ready to start his Technology Entrepreneurship course again. Enrollment is open, the course is free, and the training begins on September 16. If you've ever thought about founding a tech start-up, developing an app, or otherwise making money from technology of one kind or another, you should sign up immediately. But be warned: this course is extremely demanding

I'm Betsy Massar, founder of Master Admissions. I'm glad to be here on Wall Street Oasis back with kindred spirits. Right out of Harvard Business School I worked for Goldman Sachs and have spent most of my professional career in and around the financial industry. I worked on both the sell and buy sides (Barclays Global Investors, now BlackRock), and have worked on Wall Street, Asia, and San Francisco.

I came across a blog with very specific notes on the class Peter Thiel is currently teaching at Stanford. I've been going through a class lecture a day when I get some down time in the office. Here are some takeaways I thought we're good from the first 3 lessons. (Some of these are little obvious, but still hold true) Lesson 1: Progress comes in two flavors: horizontal/extensive and vertical/intensive. 1. Horizontal or extensive progress basically means copying things that work. In one word, it means simply "globalization." 2. Vertical or intensive progress, by contrast, means doing new things

In terms of recruiting, how prominent is UCLA among investment banks, including BB and boutiques, especially compared to UC Berkeley. I've spent a lot of time researching and I've looked up literally every post with the tag UCLA but I can't get a clear answer. I've heard some people say UCLA is a target, and others say its barely a semi-target. Some say that UC Berkeley beats it in terms of recruiting by a long shot and will give you access to NY and SF, while UCLA is limited to tiny LA offices that barely hire anyone.

Andy note: Sanford Kreisberg is the founder of hbsguru.com, a business school consultancy specialing in HBS, Stanford, Wharton, and Columbia and Chicago. He has master's from Harvard in English and was the Director of Communication at MIT/Sloan Business School for a very short time before realizing he would rather tell the truth about business schools than write Twitter spam, even though Twitter had not yet been invented.

I'll be a Management Science and Engineering Major at Stanford starting this fall. I'm interested in the combo between tech and finance. I am not really the entrepreneurial-type person that would make my own startup (which people say is the best way to get into VC) nor am I someone who enjoys programming for a living, but more so someone that could research/invest in startups or be like a Product Manager. With that said, couple quick questions: a. Are there any clubs/organizations that I should get involved in and/or courses to take that would increase opportunity to get into VC or some tech +

Hello All I have a question/dilemma. I am an undergrad majoring in Electrical Engineering (from Georgia Tech) and am looking to go on for my Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering. I have 2 options for my Master's- I can either go to Stanford or to Georgia Tech. I have a very good undergraduate GPA and have internship experiences in the Technology Division of 2 leading investment banks. I do not want to stay in Technology and I want to perhaps move into Quant/IBanking/Sales & Trading. Which one of the two schools do you think will give me a better chance of getting into the careers listed above? Thank You

I'm interning this summer at MBB as a consultant and have considered applying to the HBS and Stanford deferred admissions programs for a while now. I think I would be a competitive applicant (3.74 cumulative GPA, MBB return ideally, strong on campus leadership and probably strong GMAT) but when I discussed the prospect with a guy in the office I'll be interning in, he said it may be worth waiting. He also said not to worry about it too much because almost everyone gets into HBS, GSB, or Wharton. I'm not dead set on B school because if I return to my firm, I can potentially go straight to

Which school? Debate is open to all parameters. I'm obviously biased but I'd love some opinions... everything from academics, prestige, job opportunities afterward, actual college experience, publics vs. privates, tuition, quality of peers, future school outlook (especially with public education cuts in Cali) etc. Regards EDIT: Question was brought about by a discussion between Berkeley and Stanford friends with similar (and frequently identical) job prospects lined up after school (top consulting/banking firms). Given this info (and assuming California residency and no financial aid), does

Admissions to top MBA programs the past few years has been downright insane. Just some anecdotes of people i know who have gotten rejected at HBS and stanford 1. Hey everyone, big fan of the board, been quietly following it for a few years.. need some advice myself now. I want to apply for an MBA, only to Stanford or Harvard. I would not go to any other school, and i would only go here if i can get a c. 50% scholarship. I was told this is doable with my profile by some consultants etc, and compared myself with some friends who got similar, seems plausable. (for all of you who will ask why only these two MBAs - i only see value in forking over 200k for these 2 names, - its individual, not really here to discuss the rationalle, hope you understand.) profile: 1. come from a country that has few people appling to MBAs - not much competition. diversity factor is important i know (previous MIF exp).

so i am a rising senior who eventually wants to get into ibanking. as i am starting the college process, what schools are the clear standouts to recruiters. I have gotten different advice from people ranging from you dont actually learn anything at harvard and only get the brand recognition (from harvard ugs) to people saying dont ever go to stanford if you want to get into this field. The biggest names that i can think of (in no particular order) are harvard, williams, stanford, yale, princeton, MIT, columbia and amherst. am i leaving anyone out?

Hi, I'm attending UCLA and hope to eventually work in finance or consulting. I've heard people tell me that its a target, while others say it's barely a semi-target. It's at least clear that it's not as much of a target as the ivies, so I'm assuming my major will matter more. I'm thinking of majoring in Economics or Business Economics, since they do not have a formal business major like UC Berkeley. Would it be worthwhile for me to double major in something like Applied Math, or should I focus my efforts on networking. Or perhaps should I just go for a minor in Math. Thanks in advance.

Hey, Is a Mfin from MIT then a top MBA from H/S/W/C/C worth it? Let say you will be 27 when applying to an MBA, 2 Masters (one mfin), 2 years ib/consulting experiences (one pre MFIN one post MFIN)? I GUESS you will be promoted to associated when you already have an mfin... but let say you got bored of s&t, want to do ibd/pe/hf... Then will the MBA bring extra value? Or should I skip the Mfin and work one more year and apply for MBA directly?

So, after 2 months of preparation and studying (a lot of credit due to Phantombanker's study guide) I got a 770 on the GMAT. So now I'm turning my focus to actually applying to schools. I'm wondering if I should get more work experience or have a reasonable shot at Harvard/Wharton/Booth level schools (and the Ross/Tuck level too). My profile is pretty standard: White 770 GMAT (51Q,44V) 3.9 GPA in Econ from UMich/UNC/Cal level school 2 Years as IB Analyst at GS/MS/JPM (in 1st year) Assorted PWM and I-Banking Collegiate Internships D1 - Lacrosse Very Boring Life Story

For people who are deciding on colleges, I think this is a great debate. Lets be real, in my opinion, Wharton is less selective than HYPS, and I can see people getting into HYPS and Wharton. So when it comes down to it, if you are a high school senior, and you know you want to do investment banking / private equity / hedge funds, would you still choose HYPS over Wharton? Wharton provides finance opportunities that HYPS does not provide and the finance education. However, it is alot more competitive here at Wharton since everyone wants to enter Finance, while HYPS are liberal arts schools, and not all of those students want to enter finance.

So I was recently admitted to a top 3 MBA school, but the idea of being more than $100k in debt terrifies me. What if I want to take time off to write a novel? Or to go to China to learn Mandarin? Or try a variety of careers that don't have to do with business? You could say that I should have figured this out before I applied, but I thought I'd have a shot and I wanted to take it. And I got in. I'm not planning to have a family, so there really isn't any time limit to my dreams. I could go to bschool and then do these things later, I suppose. But I'm afraid of getting trapped in those golden

A friend at HBS was saying that he felt the biggest difference between HBS (stanford would fall in this category as well) and the rest of the top schools is the amazing quality of the students. Not so much academically, but their work experience, life experience, accomplishments, background, all dwarf those of other schools. He visited the schools he got into for their orientation for accepted students. And based on his interaction, he saw a very noticeable difference between HBS and the rest.

First, I need to know about the usefulness of a JD outside of law. I realize that JD will not help in banking, but I'm wondering whether there are other applications for, at least, the knowledge obtained from acquiring a JD if not the credentials associated with the JD (i.e. Politics, Entrepreneurship, etc. - these are two paths that I've considered as an exit to banking - especially politics) Right now I'm only considering Harvard and Stanford for law school - my GPA is a bit sub-par when compared to the average admit (i.e. lower than the 20th percentile of the school - still a bit over 3.5+), but my LSAT is over the 99.8th percentile (175+ for my particular sitting)... I know there's this app floating around - but don't know how to get it - in which you input your GPA and LSAT and it will tell you to which schools you will likely get accepted/waitlisted/rejected. Any idea regarding what my output would be?

Background: - 4 years of experience as private equity associate (mid market ~$500M fund); great deal experience; west coast-based - short stint in I-banking before PE - 3.4 GPA from top 15-20 undergrad school; finance degree - GMAT: 680 (re-taking soon) - moderate extra-curricular / volunteer work; nothing extraordinary Expectations: UCLA and Berkeley are schools I would like to go to and expect to get into (at least 1 of those). HBS/Chicago/Stanford (any top 5 school) are my stretch schools and may not be worth applying to. Thoughts?

Somehow I am getting the impression that this school doesn't place too well in IB (or S&T), at least as compared to the usual suspects on the East Coast. That impression is based on my own internship experiences and those of a couple of friends. Could people give their experience on Stanford placement? Is stanford a top investment banking school? Stanford is a target school. Plenty of banks come to their campus to recruit. However, they are not in the top ten for overall distribution in BAML Greenhill
