I just finished an internship at a BB and received a FT offer. During recruitment, I had my major GPA listed on my resume (which I calculated at ~3.4) however my cumulative is a 2.9 (got hurt on a religion course and an economics course). I didn't think I'd get the internship but I did, and they never asked for my transcript though I signed a contract giving them the right to confirm my education. Now I got the FT offer with a year left of school, and am sure as a bulge bracket they'll ask for my official transcript upon graduation. I'm nervous considering they'll see the 2.9. Also, if it

Okay, dumb question time. I'm being asked to send in my official transcript to a potential employer, and I don't want to ask them this directly so as to avoid wasting their time or seeming stupid/somehow sketchy, but can I simply send in a scan of my physical transcript that I have on-hand, or are they expecting it directly from the school, in which case I would have to pay a fee to get it sent out? Do you think it's okay to ask them this question? Thanks for any help in advance.

Hi, guys, I have a question that I am dying to seek for an answer. I am now an undergrad at Columbia and I want to apply for the summer internship in the consulting field next year (preferably MBB of course). But my education background is a bit unconventional: I have attended TWO colleges prior to Columbia and being academically dismissed from the FIRST one. I attended a top 50 (not gonna specify thanks for understanding) university in the States, but due to many reasons (first time living in a foreign country, wasn't capable of taking care of my self, hard time blend into the environment

First time user here. Wow, this site would've been overwhelmingly helpful a few months ago. I am a sophomore at a top tier school. I was lucky enough to be told I would be offered a summer 2019 analyst position at a prestigious boutique at the end of the second phone interview before the superday. I leveraged this stage in my process at a boutique into an accelerated process at a "bulge bracket" bank, which resulted in an offer whose contract and list of requirements will be sent out end's day tomorrow. The interviewer told me a laundry list of things I should prepare to submit because

Just wanted to post this to hear from you guys about your experience. When you have got offers for IBD BB SA's, when do these firms generally request your transcripts and check you grades/GPA? Does anyone know specifically for GS. For example say hypothetically I have my offer now for GS SA19 and was wondering when they will ask to check my transcripts/grades? Does anyone have experience or knowledge on this? Do they do this right when you get the offer? Or do they usually wait a month or so before the start of the internship? From my experience it seems that they check soon before internship

Be straight with me guys, regarding SUMMER ANALYST POSITIONS IN NYC OFFICES: -Do background checks actually have access to and check GPA? Doesn't FERPA prevent any sort of request from seeing personal info i.e. GPA? Aren't these checks just to comfirm enrollment and graduation year? -BB people, does HR ask for unofficial or official transcript? Edit: state your BB or at least one that it is not Edit 2: I have the minimum GPA, I just inflated a bit

I got the offer with my transcript that looked good without the last semester when the hiring was conducted. But I am having a huge trouble with one 1-credit technical class and it's not required so it won't affect graduation. I think I am gonna fail that one as the duration of the course is only 1/3 of the semester and I can barely save it with only days remaining. The firm only mentioned they wanted a GPA higher than 3.5 (I will try to make it as the F is just 1 credit). Will they take back my offer and should I start looking for other jobs?

Hey there, as I organize my schedule for my last semester, I'm very tempted to choose as many easy classes as possible to not stress too much and party. As a non-quant, social science major, would this be a poor reflection for B school? I will have about a 3.7-3.8 GPA by the time I graduate, will be entering a relatively analytical role at a reputable firm, and will hopefully do well on my GMAT. Can I go ahead and enjoy my senior year or should I try taking something more rigorous?

Okay, so I'm a sophmore at a semi-target and I applied for a job last week at a big finance firm (see name) and got an interview. They asked for an unofficial transcript, and I took a screenshot of my grades, which I submitted in my app. However, only took a screenshot of my first-year Fall/Winter grades, and forgot to send my Summer grades. I withdrew from all my summer classes the week after the add period (which is only 5 days) because I decided I didn't want to do both summer courses and an internship, so I have no grades for that period -- all courses show up as W. Therefore, my GPA is

Long Story Short- I was suspended for one semester and I will be returning in the spring. The suspension was disciplinary and due to political factors I was made an example to set a precedent in the future. I go to a top 10 school and have excellent work experience at BBs. I just crushed my most recent superday and received an SA offer immediately but the suspension situation never came up. How should I go about letting them know the situation? Should I talk to HR or the people who interviewed me? Many of my interviewers for the superday have reached out to me personally to congradulate me

Hi I'm a college junior who was offered a McKinsey internship in their New York office for this summer. I go to a pretty hard school (think MIT, Harvey Mudd, Chicago, Caltech) and have doing dismally in a computer science elective (my first ever CS class) - so much so that I have to withdraw the class. This is due to personal issues as well as the sheer intensity of my other classes this semester. Will having a "W" (=Withdraw) on my transcript make McKinsey rescind my offer? It is my first one and in an elective. How do I actively address this? Am I completely fucked for future recruiting? Any

Hello I'm looking to recruit for PE after doing the summer at investment banking. Right now I have the choice to take really easy courses, 3 classes per semester, take some pass-fail and still graduate with honors if I just write a thesis. I'm an econ major, and I don't even have to take more econ classes. My question is, will me taking easy classes and getting As hurt me as opposed to taking more rigorous econ classes? I'm worried when or if they are going to look at the transcript and look at some of the course titles. Many thanks

Hi WSO. Does anyone with experience as a GS SA have any insight as to whether they want an official or unofficial transcript, and at what stage we are asked to submit it? I don't have a copy of mine on me, so before I spend money to order one, I'd be interested in knowing what I need. **Edit: I actually DO have a copy of my official saved on my computer, would I just be able to send that in?

I interviewed with a BB and during the interview, I lied about my GPA by .06 points. At the time, I had forgotten what it was - it's not listed on my resume, and I usually only interview for tech companies, who never ask about GPA. The number that popped up in my head sounded right, and it actually was my cumulative GPA after first semester junior year when I was applying for internships, but it dropped after second semester junior year. Anyways, I don't remember if the interviewer wrote it down on his copy of my resume or not. Long story short, I got an offer from the BB. I am certain that they will ask for a transcript. Should I email them now about the discrepancy, or should I keep mum, raise my GPA this semester, and send them my official transcript once they actually request it?

I just read a thread on collegeconfidential about this issue and it got me thinking, I know plenty of people who forge unofficial transcripts who are in college to get jobs. But couldn't a lot of people from high school have faked their transcript to get into Harvard, Yale, Princeton, or whatever university they want to get into? It sounds hard but it's really not. It seems pretty easy to photoshop your grades and fake a seal, or figure out something to send a fake transcript, or even fake recommendations and stuff. Not to mention it's nearly impossible for colleges to verify ANY of your

Hi, it seems to me that many people falsify their transcripts replacing bad grades with slightly better ones... I know of several people who have done this and then ended up with an offer! My grades are not terrible but I defiantly dont have a GPA of 3.6 :) I would never send someone a fake transcript - its just morally incorrect to take away someones offer just because he is being honest about his grades! But the problem is, that my grades even though they are not terrible, seem to the recruiter as much worse then they actually are (because I am compared to all the others). Why is it so easy to falsify ones Transcript? Do non of the banks actually check them? Or is the percentage checked just so small that many people just take the chance.

When a job application doesn't ask for a cover letter, is it better to send one along anyway? Many of the IBD/S&T internship positions on my OCR website (firms range from BBs to 3-man shops, all FO positions) require only a resume, but hat can't be enough on which to make an informed decision on whom to select for an interview, can it? Would a cover letter in that situation give me an advantage, or would it be ignored? The jobs usually don't require a transcript either. In that case, should I bother sending mine? (My transcript is not that great - GPA's alright, but a couple of bad grades)

HELP! i accepted an offer with a BB for a SA position. out of pure luck i was extended an offer despite my very low GPA (think below 2.9). nobody asked for my CGPA and my major GPA is good. we just got emails from HR saying we would be contacted in a few weeks for pre processing appts and paperwork. does this mean they will ask for a transcript? and is there a chance they will rescind the offer if they see my transcript? i haven't lied about anything but i am having a hard time believing that i was able to slip through the cracks so easily. im losing sleep over this.

Accepted an SA offer from a top BB for Tokyo office. Everything was dandy until background check, I was asked for an official transcript. I did not lie about my cumulative gpa. I dont know if the transcript for my school (US) is typical. They way my school does it is that it categorizes by semester in chronological order and list courses + gpa for that term. At the very end of the transcript it shows the cumulative gpa. My transcript is two pages. The first page lists my coursework and gpa for Fall 2007, Winter 2008 and the second page list my coursework and gpa for Fall 2008, Winter 2009, Fall 2009, and my current course work, and at the very end of the second page were two lines listing my cumulative gpa (which is exactly what I list on my resume). I had really crappy gpa my freshman year (3.03 and 2.97) and I have been getting 4.0s every since so my cumulative gpa is up to 3.65.

After cold emailing an alum at a MBB Consulting Firm, I was asked to provide my resume, GPA, SAT scores, and transcript. Everything's fine, but my transcript, to say the least, isn't the best. I had a rough sophomore year and ended up with a couple of C's but my cumulative GPA is around 3.3 with a major GPA of 3.56. Will this end up killing me? I did have a great junior spring relatively speaking after having been abroad junior fall. I know there isn't much I should do, but do you think that will doom my chances for MBB?

Hey guys, I'm in a bit of a conundrum. About 3 months ago, I was networking with a senior banker (alum from my school) at one of the big 5 Canadian banks. I graduated back in 09 and working in the middle office at a large Asset Management firm. Anyway, I've been trying to break into banking for a while, and my marks aren't exactly stellar, however, when this banker asked for my grades, I succumbed to my nervousness and told him a cumulative average 5% higher than what it actually is (I don't know why I did that, and I really regret it).

I have an interview for a summer interview at an equity research company in a week and a half. I am a rising junior, but I was first forced to miss the first semester of my sophomore year due to family financial issues. I am still on track to graduate on time and have a very strong academic record other than the missed semester. I am struggling to figure out if I should bring it up/how I should during the interview, especially since they have not asked for my transcript. I spent the missing semester working, but it was not really relevant experience. Any Advice?

Hey all I have a pretty solid GPA, 3.7 CGPA/3.8 major GPA... but 3-4 of my interviewers brought up the subject of worst grade or why did you get a "blah" in this class. I'm wondering if anyone has advice as to how to approach these questions in the future. Thanks

So, I am about to be a senior, preparing for IB FT recruit in the Fall. Doing everything I can to network, alum, senior personel, cold-calling headhunters, HR Will spread my net wide to boutiques, MM and BB. Have no previous IB experience but well over 1.5 years of wealth management experience with Smithe Barney and BAML.. I triple major in Economics, Linguistics and International studies with a ~3.3 total GPA and 3.4 Econ GPA due to my end of freshmen year incident (very personal/traumatic), I developed pretty serious post traumatic stress syndrome and received over a year of psychiatric service to overcome my personal issues. This disrupted my ability to focus and study, resulting in some B- and Cs in my sophomore year.......

Took two summer courses, both related to my major, and got a B and B- . I can transfer these courses or retake them and get an A. Transferring them will not affect my GPA, I will only receive credits toward graduation, however the letter grade will still be listed on my transcript. Will having two Bs related to my major affect Bschool? If I don't get an offer out of undergrad, will it affect my Mfin admissions? FYI I am at a nontarget with 3.7 gpa in a hard science.

I've transferred from Harvard but didn't put it on my resume to avoid unnecessary, inquisitive questions that I might be asked, assuming that leaving out old school is not a big deal. Anyway, despite my efforts to hide my background, I just discovered that my transcript has "remarks" at the bottom, and it says 64 credits transferred from Harvard. Although I only uploaded/submitted my current transcript, do you think banks will ask me to send in additional transcript from Harvard so as to check my old GPA and what courses I have taken prior to transferring to Columbia? I'm really afraid because my old transcript may reveal my disciplinary probation history along with other trivia that might be detrimental to me.

They count as pass/fail on my UG transcript and don't count towards my GPA. I understand that employers usually ask for transcripts after the job offer, so would I be right in assuming that while I shouldn't try to barely pass all of my classes, my grades while studying abroad (1 sem) pretty much don't matter at all in the IBD SA/job recruitment process? And what about for other jobs like consulting, boutiques, etc.? Thanks!

I transferred after my freshman year. I'm planning on leaving my first school off the resume (it's a small non-target on the west coast, you've never heard of it) My current school's transcript lists the credits I got from my first school, though it doesn't list any grades or GPA, just the credits that got transferred over. I'm hoping I only will have to submit my current school's transcript. If I have to submit my first school's transcript they will see I have a W in my freshman first semester. I also have a W at my new school for my first semester there, so two Ws total (but they'll only see one from my new school on my new school's transcript) I know it's not a big deal either way, but I'd rather have them not see that.

My academic transcript has my social security number on it, and I don't feel comfortable emailing a scanned copy as-is to various firms. Can I black it out and then send it, or will that give firms the wrong impression? Thanks for you advice.

Hi everyone, My official transcript only lists cum GPA, which is significantly lower than my major GPA. I listed my Major GPA on my resume (and made it clear that i was listing my MAJOR gpa), however, the official transcript makes no mention of major GPA at all. How would you approach this problem? Just wait for HR to ask, or tell them in advance? Thank you!

Hey Everyone, I am currently an Economics student at my university. I am taking corporate finance which is NOT required for my major, but is basically for building a background for recruiting. I have a high GPA but this semester, the business school (which I'm not in) has implemented a new strict curve. I didn't know this until I enrolled. Even though I find the material understandable, the curve has made it almost impossible to get an A. In absolute terms, my grade is in the 90%'s, but the curve makes little points screw my grade up.

What do the banks that request unofficial transcripts with a resume and cover letter do with them? It seems that only Lazard, JP Morgan, and Morgan Stanley are asking for them on my ocr website. Are they just there to prevent fraud or do they play a role in the selection and interview process? I have a good cumulative gpa but I have a couple Bs in some very relevant classes so I am wondering if I need to come up with a story/reason to explain them.

I am wondering if I should take a course in finance, which would look good on a transcript for banks, showing them I am interested in finance, etc. However, it would be better for me if I fulfilled a requirement to graduate by taking a history class. I would rather do the latter, but would do the former if the banks look at transcripts. However, I can't find the answer to the question. Are they going to look at what courses I have taken or not?

I accepted an offer at a BB/EB before getting back Spring 2018 grades from school. My GPA fell 0.09 points--should I send an updated resume to my firm? (I never had to provide a transcript as part of the recruiting process). Just don't want to have that stone turned by background checks if it should have been revealed sooner.

Dear Monkeys, What documents do you you use when it comes to supporting documents on your application on the BB website to get noticed other than cover letter, transcripts the basic stuff? SAT score? GRE score? or your published paper? How do you stand out and not get weed out on the BB's website?

On my resume I listed myself as a BBA + math minor, but my transcript still says I'm a Dual Degree seeker in Psychology major and BBA (which is actually a more overwhelming program than minoring in math). I have taken the prequisite courses for both psych major and math minor. Also, as long as we took the required introductory courses, my school allows me to declare ourselves to be whatever we wanted, so the discrepency is nominal in nature. The psych major designation is still on my transcript because I haven't handed in the paperwork to withdraw from the Dual degree program, even though as

I am currently studying abroad for the semester and my credits will transfer but the grades will not affect my GPA (School decision because it's not a program run by my college). However, the grades I recieve will be on my transcript. Will it reflect badly on me when employers review my transcript if I have B's in my abroad classes. I was hoping to kinda slack off, do bare minimum, not attend all the classes so I can travel a lot...and party.

Years ago I was in engineering at my non target university At the time I was very immature and distracted by family problems. I essentially dropped all my registered classes. For the first two semesters they all show as "discontinued" on my transcript. In my 3rd semester I got sub par marks (C's and a B) and decided to drop out I took a year off from school, got my shit together and went into finance at the same uni I ended up graduating from honours finance with a GPA just shy of 3.7 My transcript shows my engineering degree as well as my finance degree

I had a final interview at a PE firm for a financial analyst position exactly two weeks ago. Two days after the interview I was contacted and it was requested that I provide my official academic transcript and two references. The following Wednesday (one week ago) I was again contacted saying my resume was received the previous evening. This past Friday my second reference contacted me saying that he was called that day. I was expecting to get a decision by today, but haven't. I do not know if this is because they have chosen me but are dealing with HR bs and delays from the holiday, they are trying to decide between me and other candidates, or because they are waiting for others to reject their offers (meaning that I'm an alternate).

Hi all - apologies if this has already been asked: When sending a transcript, does it look bad if you include your current courses (with no grades) on it? I have a few courses in stat & finance this quarter that would look good, but I think it might look suspicious to include them. Thoughts?
