I don't know about y'all, but I'm sick and tired of UVA students and alums on this forum and Linkedin constantly hyping up their school and posting about their incoming summer analyst position. Do they really have such an inferiority complex since they don't even go to a top 20 school? Y'all need to chill, you're acceptance rate is 26 percent and acting like it's 4 percent....

Hello, I am a senior in high school who is just finishing the college admission process. So far the schools that I have been accepted to and are still considering are in the title. I still have to find out about UC Berkeley and UMichigan Ross in the next few days. I have also been waitlisted at NYU Stern. I am leaning towards IB but wouldn't be surprised if I ended up somewhere else in the field of business, i.e. consulting, etc. So far I am leaning mostly towards WashU for several reasons. I like the smaller class sizes, its generally the most prestigious out of those bunch, and employment

This is my first post as I just created an account to get an opinion on this. Basically, I was accepted into both USC (Marshall) and UVA (Out-of-State), but I am currently unable to decide which one to attend. I definitely want to break into finance (work on the east coast - specifically NYC) in something IB or PE related. Because of this, I am thinking of going to UVA; however, the only factor that really is concerning me is the uncertainty of getting into McIntire. Putting both cost and social life aside (cost is relatively the same for me at both and I love both of their campuses and know

Hello! I have the choice between both wonderful schools, and was wondering whether MBB consulting/tier 2 was possible from both. I strongly prefer Rice's undergrad culture to UVA; I am pretty unwilling to join a greek organization and I feel that academically Rice edges UVA out in STEM, which I would prefer to study undergrad (of course McIntire would also be in the plan at UVA). However, if UVA has far better placement than Rice, I would be willing to go there instead. What do you all think about both schools? Thank you for your time!

Hello everyone, I used to be class of 2022 at IU Kelley school of business, but in the fall, I had to medically withdraw. Once I got home, my parents told me I would have to transfer in state, so I applied to some schools, and to my luck I was able to get into UVA as a math major class of 2023. Now, I don't think I would be able to get into the McIntire school. However, I also was accepted to Virginia tech as a business it major, and I also saw tech has some placement programs to Wall Street such as SEED and BASIS. Would I be better off going to uva as a math major or tech's business school

Gtown vs. Vandy vs. UVA vs. Wake Forest vs. Emory The college experience itself aside, how is each school (undergrad) viewed by recruiters from top investment banking firms on Wall Street? If I am able to get solid grades and ECs at every school, how would each look on a resume? How would they help (or hurt) me in terms of getting highly competitive internships at places like Goldman, Morgan, etc in NYC? Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hey all, got a friend from a science background who graduated last May and has been working in his field since then. He's looking to make the move into finance (trading specifically I believe) and I immediatly thought of a program I heard about earlier in the year; the Masters of Science in Commerce from UVA's McIntire School of Commerce. I know that the program is very new but does anyone have any thoughts as to how useful it would be to someone looking to make a career change shortly after graduating? I have to assume that recruiting would be great thanks to Darden and McIntire which both rank very well. It's only 1 year and allows for a second semester concentration in finance.

Alright guys. I'm a junior level transfer who's trying to break into banking. So far, I have been accepted to the following schools: Georgetown University (College, not MSB) Middlebury College UNC-CH (College, but could/would transfer to Kenan-Flagler after one semester) UVA (College, not McIntire) Vanderbilt University Pending: Northwestern University Notre Dame (College, not Mendoza) I am an economics major. As of right now, I'm leaning towards going to Middlebury. It seems like the best fit for me socially and academically. I have read that it places fairly well for its size, but I am still a bit concerned because it is a small liberal arts college. Can anyone chime in on this?

I have decided, after quite a few posts on College Confidential, to post my query here on Wall Street Oasis which seems to have a base of older, more experienced users that can perhaps provide me with a different perspective! I have been accepted to USC-Marshall, UT Business Honors, UVA, UNC-Chapel Hill, Vanderbilt, and Rice. I was also waitlisted at Duke. I have pretty much narrowed it down to UVA and UT Business Honors, choosing not to chase the undergrad econ route I'd have to take at Rice, Vandy, and Duke or the business schools at USC or UNC that I feel aren't as good of a fit for me as UVA McIntire or UT Business Honors.

Undergrad: UT, Northwestern, or UVA? I got into UVA, UT, and Northwestern and I'm trying to decide. I don't care so much about the name as what would position me best for a job, then business school. I qualify for instate tuition at UT. Darden (assuming I get in junior year) is slightly better than McCombs but it doesn't seem worth paying more than 3x tuition at UVA for another state school education. Any thoughts? It's pretty much between Northwestern and UT right now. At UT I would apply for the Business Honors Program. If i went to Northwestern, I would try to get into MMSS and do the Kellogg Certificat in Financial Economics. Both of these programs, assuming I got in, would offer more personal career advising, etc. So, I wanted to know how the recruiting is at Northwestern compared to UT. UT has a good network in Texas, but that's not where I want to stay. I don't know how NW recruiting is - if it's more regional or is a target for big companies on the East/West coast. Ultimately, I'd like to end up doing VC in San Francisco and I want to know which school will position be better to accomplish that. Thanks in advance for the replies!

Currently I'm a freshman at the University of Virginia. Ultimately I'd like to work in finance, hopefully Wall Street, when I graduate. I came in with enough credits from HS were I'll be able to graduate in three years with a degree in finance from the UVA's McIntire School and Commerce as well as a second major in math. My issue is that with some hard work this semester I should be competitive from transfering into a more elite school. Currently I'm considering Wharton, Yale, Dartmouth, Stanford, Columbia, UChicago and MIT. Besides believing that I would be happier at any of theses schools, future job prospects is some thing that is worth considering.

Considering UVA (and eventually McIntire) for undergrad. If I were to be admitted and attend, would I have to join a frat to get a job on the street? At this moment in time, I really don't want to join a frat or be involved with greek life. Maybe that will change as college actually begins, but through my current decision process a heavy greek life presence is more of a con than a pro. Is UVA McIntire good enough to get placed into NYC finance without being in a frat, or are placements done through that whole "brotherhood for life" bullshit?

I am writing in hopes of getting some much needed advice. I am at my wits end and really hope you guys can provide some advice.I am currently in the process of identifying where I will attend for my undergraduate studies. Little background: -Identified as dyslexic at 8. Effected reading and writing/spelling making school "interesting". - Grades were not very good in high school, very difficult time period. Was homeless twice and dropped out for a brief period to care for my father. With all the distractions I barely graduated. -Returned to finish school instead of taking the easy way out and obtaining a GED. Left for the military. - Served in Iraq and Afghanistan, where I sustained combat related injuries and was medically discharged in late '06.

I am currently a Canadian senior interested in entering investment banking after university. I have been accepted to: 1) UVa 2) McGill Management 3) Wake Forest 4) Babson so far for undergrad. Which university do you feel would prepare me best to enter IB as well as which school has the best reputation on the street? Any help at all is greatly appreciated!

Hi I am an international student, and after having spent two years at a community college I have been accepted to McIntire at UVA and UC Berkeley for Economics. I want to get a job in IB after graduation. Given that I am an international student, which school will give me the best shot at landing a FT offer? I also got into Business Economics at UCLA - I am assuming this uni is trumped by the two others in terms of finance employment prospects? Thanks

I'm finishing up my junior year at a top liberal arts school, and I'm weighing my options for whatever I end up doing postgrad. I'm an Economics and Classics double major, with a ~3.8 GPA (inducted into Phi Beta Kappa). I'm also an analyst with the school's Investment Club/Society, which manages ~$1.4 million of the endowment. In addition to the standard Econ curriculum, I've taken through the upper level Finance/Financial Accounting offerings. My preference is to stay in school after graduating, especially given the labor market prognosis. Rather than pursuing a one-year undergrad add-on degree (McIntire at UVA, MS Finance at Vandy, etc.) - which I feel would be somewhat redundant given the finance electives I have taken - I'm interested in earning an MBA. It appears that, generally, the upper echelon of MBA programs welcome/encourage applications from college seniors and others with minimal experience, a reversal from previous form. The schools that have a more theoretical focus (Chicago, for example) seem to be most welcoming. Lesser schools appear to still require work experience, either implicitly or explicitly.

Okay I am extremely confused on what to do - I've gotten admittance to UF's MSF program & UVA's MS Commerce program (Financial Services concentration), & awaiting an Interview at Vanderbilt's MSF. Out of the three, tuition not considered, would be the best choice? Now considering tuition, Vandy and UVA will cost about the same but UF will be around $25K less since I am Instate. I think I want to do corporate finance, but certainly want to explore other options as well. I'm definitely not looking to go to Wall Street or IB. (way too much stress) In my position, which school would be the best option? My main focus is on job prospects, don't care about much else. Here's a few more stats on my background - UG School: University of North Florida

First of all, I live in Virginia. I plan on going to community college for 2 years, and I will be able to get guaranteed acceptance to UVA after 2 years. The only major I would be able to do related to business is economics. I will be paying in financial aid and loans, so in-state tuition is a good benefit for me. - Would this be the best route to go or should I do a different major at a different school? - Would I be likely to get a job after graduating or shortly after that requires a bachelors if I graduated in this? I've read there's a lot of underemployment for recent college grads so I'm

So I got into UVA out-of-state and will be attending this fall to major in economics. During my sophomore year, I will apply and hopefully get into McIntire to study finance. I understand that UVA does pretty well with investment banking. What if I don't get into McIntire? How does an Econ degree from UVA hold up? How does UVA do in other fields in finance? How does UVA compare to Ivies and other top schools in terms of placement at top firms? Does its prestige hold up?

Hey guys, basically as the tittle says, if youre looking to leave the US and go to Europe/ Middle East/ Asia, and you're aiming for a corporate strategy role with a Exxon or samsung etc, which would you recommend? Current work experience (3 yrs) is in project management/ six sigma. Also do you know of anyone in these programs that's done it? Thanks!

Hi guys, this is my first post here on this site! This past week, I had the opportunity to visit both the University of Virginia and Carnegie Mellon University during their "admitted student days." Now after getting the chance to meet some students and experience their respective campuses, I can confidently say that I have NO IDEA how I'm going to choose between the two. I love their campuses for two different reasons - one is tight-knit and sunny while the the other is more city-ish and clustered. Both of them, I know have really good business programs (I'm thinking of doing finance), but while Tepper is a 4 year program, McIntire is only two. However McIntire, I've heard, still does extremely well during recruiting season.

How do these three programs rank against each other and what makes them stand out? Here are my impressions from going through interviews and reading stuff online: Claremont: Probably has the best placement for West Coast. Good everywhere else but doesn't really standout. Focus on entrepreneurship, program is smaller than the others. Slightly more quantitative but still an MSF as opposed to an MFin. Vandi: Larger program. Places well on the east coast. They care - 2 rounds of interviews for admissions as opposed to UVA which didn't do interviews. UVA: Larger program. Places well on the east

How is the recruiting from UVA? finance wise IB/hedge fund is it considered a target? I would be transferring, as a sophomore but then would have to apply to Mcintire what happens if you dont get in? How hard is it to get in? Social life?.

I have been accepted to Vandy and UVA (non-McIntyre) and I am waiting to hear back from Gtown, as a junior transfer. I would like to know which school is the best for recruiting and prestige, and what school will be the easiest to maintain a high GPA (I'm at about 3.4 and I would like to graduate with a 3.5+).

Hey there, I am currently deciding between UVa McIntire and Queen's Commerce, for undergrad. I know both are great schools, but my only concern with UVa is the fact that I'm not guaranteed into the business school like I would be with QC. Is McIntire worth the risk of not getting in? Could you please give me your opinion toward which school I should attend next year? Thank you so much! jojo1130

Hey guys, Well I was just accepted to my absolute dream school - UVA, but I'm starting to second guess going there. I mean I whole heartedly want to go to that school, but my parents make way to much for me to apply for FA. I was also accepted to FSU with a full ride. The deal I have with my parents is that they'll pay 40k a year for whatever school I attend. But if they pay the 40k a year, they will not pay a nickle for grad school. So if I got to UVA I will not only have to take on some debt (around 25k), but I will also have zero money for grad school. On the other hand, if I go to FSU, I

I'm a senior in high school and I was recently accepted to UVA. I want to major in finance, but UVA doesn't offer direct admission to their business school (McIntire). You have to complete two years at UVA, then apply to be admitted to their business school. I'm unsure if it's worth taking the risk of not being able to major in finance and instead have to major in Econ, because I have an acceptance to BCs Caroll school of management. To give you a frame of reference I got a 2170 on the SAT and had somewhere around a 3.85 unweighted gpa. My question is is McIntire really as hard as people say

Anyone have any information on deal flow, comp, prestige, etc for Alpine Investors? They seem to be doing more aggressive marketing at HYSP and Cal/UVA. Curious to learn what its rep is on the street considering they seem to have a culture vastly different than other PE firms out there. Any help would be helpful, especially if you interviewed there before!

Hi everyone, Im a student from Sweden who is studying a Master of Commerce, with finance as subject area. Im studying at one of the best universities in Sweden and I have "B" as my average grade (our grading scale is A,B,C,D,E,F.... where F = fail) My university in Sweden has an agreement with UVA and therefore I will go to UVA and study at McIntire School of Commerce during the upcomming fall. Im going to study Project Management, Entrepreneurship, Global Sustainability, Webanalytics & E-commerce... and also Intermediate Macroeconomics.

Was recently accepted to UVA college of arts and sciences. Hoping to apply to Mcintire. In job/internship terms will leaving my current university (top 50 non target) be worth it. Would it be better to try and shine at my current university or be middle of the road at Mcintire? I know UVA is a top public, is it a target?

If anyone wants to network with adcoms and alumni from some of the best MSF schools, you should def check this out. It's free btw. msbusinessdegrees.com There's one in NYC on March 26th and another in DC on March 27th. One thing I do want to point out is that the round 3 deadlines for pretty much all of these programs will be over by then, since most of thier dealines are march 9-19. I'm applying for round 3 to a few of these but am showing up to this thing anyway to compare them and network. Hope to see some of you there.

If there are any McIntire (UVA) students/grads in this forum, since McIntire is a two year program starting junior year, how did students get internships summer of their sophomore/freshman year? Or do students typically only get junior summer internships? I assume OCR for McIntire doesnt really apply to freshmen and sophomores.
