HF Resume Announcement: WSO has released a hedge fund resume template for Experienced Professionals with Deal Experience!:

Click here for the free investment banking resume template for college students.

experienced professional resume for hedge fund analyst interviews

Just like our PE resume template, this resume is for pros with deal experience coming from Investment Banking, management consulting or other project/transaction based work.

As I mentioned earlier in the week when we released the investment banking resume template for undergraduates, we think the WSO templates give you a lot more flexibility on spacing.

As a reminder, the bullets in this template are just placeholders and are NOT what we would consider "top-notch" bullets.

This is very similar to the hedge fund resume template we use in all of our the WSO resume reviews with experienced buyside professionals.

This particular HF resume sample is for experienced hires, not college students. That's all for now!

HF Resume Format, Spacing, and Font

Spacing and font size go hand in hand. While it’s recommended that you keep the bullet font at 10 and replace the bullets with content of roughly similar size, you can change it to font 11 if you need to fill more space with less. Don’t drop the font to 9. At that point, the resume will become too cluttered and won’t have enough white space. Moving it up to 11 is tolerable, but if you’re applying for private equity positions, filling the resume shouldn’t be an issue in the first space. The ratio between content and white space is optimal as it stands.

Typically, format is a question of major relevance to people in hedge funds. Lucky for you, you’ve found yourself on this page. Format is already set; just fill in the blanks.

What should I put on my Hedge Fund Interview Resume?

Arguably the most important aspect of your resume, since you’re already set as far as formatting goes, is the bullet points, which make up the content of the resume. Here’s what you need to know for the bullets on your private equity resume, courtesy of @upod01", an investment banking analyst.

upod01 - Investment Banking Analyst:
Try to quantify some of your experience. In the case that you do not have a quantifiable metric, focus on how you outperformed and any results you achieved.

Example of something great to put on a resume: "Helped create first-time access to life-changing technologies, products, and services for isolated villagers through locally-owned, managed, and sustainable (profitable) entrepreneurial solutions." Not so great: "Assisted with move-ins and move-out of tenants." You see my point.

Ha, yes, much more difficult. I am still looking for an author / authors that would be able to put not just a description of the strategies, but also do several case studies under each to really make it valuable for interviews.

Right now, focusing on finishing the PE Prep Pack and then I will pick up the search again for author/s on the HF Prep Pack. won't be easy...so timing is ??? right now

Thanks for this! Couple questions:

1) I noticed that this template has 'Work Experience' take up about half the space and college activities are still highlighted. What's the reasoning behind that? I'm a first year analyst in IB and have seen other templates with 2/3 the space on 'Work Experience' and Leadership + Education condensed into one section. However, given that recruiting starts 6 months or less into the job (less than that in my case), I haven't had much transactional experience at my 2nd-tier bank, so a format including college activities makes sense to me. Is the reason for this spacing related to how early recruiting is, or other factors?

2) If you were a summer analyst at your current bank, would you suggest collapsing that into 1 'Work Experience'? If so, would you list your start date as the start of your summer internship and write 'Summer Analyst & Full-time Analyst' as your role?

hey, questions probably best left for a professional reviewer in your target industry: http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/wso-finance-resume-review

but in general:

  1. it's just a formatting template...you shouldn't read as much into the length of each sentence or the content
  2. depends how good your other stuff is and how much space you need for other stuff...so again, it depends on the candidate :-)

How are some of these people even human lol. These resume templates always leave me feeling like MS whenever I read them.

Absolute truths don't exist... celebrated opinions do.
