Moelis vs Evercore vs Jefferies vs Deutsche Bank
Willing to work hard. Im looking for strength in compensation and placements to the buy-side. Specifically, Im interested in doing private equity and getting paid well while I'm an analyst. Suggestions? Thanks!
Close call between Moelis and Evercore. Moelis will get you about 170k as a first year while Evercore will pay you in the 145-155 range. The others are both ~140k. As far as placements go, top kids at Moelis generally have their pick to wherever they want with top PE. Evercore has been good too, but slightly less in the top PE firms and more middle market. Jefferies and DB dont even come close...Moelis makes you work harder too depending on the office...NY is similar to Evercore while LA is pretty crazy. If you can work relatively hard, then definitely go to Moelis. If not so, then Evercore is my suggestion.
Ya, that seems a little ridiculous. Which elite boutiques pay the most? I'm guessing it would go: 1. Centerview 2. Blackstone 3. Moelis / Greenhill 4. Lazard / Perella / Evercore
Everyone's thoughts?
For which location is this?
You can't go wrong with Moelis LA and Evercore.
Info above is misleading. I know for a fact that overall comp at Both Moelis and Evercore in 2013 for analyst was the same - $150k. BX is 5k less and Centerview is 10 - 15k higher. Evercore was 152.5k in 2014, dont know if Moelis was higher or lower but I am pretty sure it was not much different. Its a toss up between Moelis and Evercore, but given culture, I would go for Evercore over Moelis anyday. In terms of placement you will get the exact same interviews from both places, it really depends on how strong of a candidate you are!
^ Sounds about right from what I've seen/heard. If you choose Moelis over EVR, think you'd regret it on a cultural level for sure. Only real pro to Moelis vs. EVR is if you want to do RX and your offer is for EVR M&A.
Why does everyone think Moelis has a bad culture? I have spoken with a number of Moelis analysts and it seems like the culture there is actually pretty decent (at least at a junior interaction level), it's just that you work long hours due to the amount of live deals you get staffed on.
Yeah your numbers for both BX and Centerview are wrong. I'd recommend not making statements in absolutes unless you're actually sure of their veracity.
I hope first year comp is the deciding factor in your decision - good luck!
I would say Evercore hands down. I don't think Moelis NY is as strong as LA and I've heard nothing but great things from friends at Evercore.
Moelis
