What do you guys think?
Is this a good place to start a career?
Which team would be the best choice?
How does this compare to BB/EB M&A/RX/LevFin experience, given that I'm interested in certain HF/PE roles down the road (special sits/distressed debt/pere/etc)?
Thanks!
Are you undergrad?

BlackRock Alternative Credit (Originally Posted: 11/08/2014)
Hi guys,
wanted to know if anyone knows any bit of detail on the BlackRock credit alternatives team / division.
On their website they seem to call it special credit opportunities, but from what I understand they mostly deal with high yield.
Just wanted to get thoughts / views from anyone that knows something about it. Have been approached to interview for this division, would be fundamental credit research. I'm coming from BB IBD.
I am interested in credit and find it very interesting + happy I got approached. But would want to know more if this division is more of a credit hedge fund, with a more aggressive strategy, or more of a plain vanilla, long only asset manager, and if it is indeed a good place to go.
Any comments / insights welcome.
Thanks

Hi hmmsk,
How is your interview at BlackRock credit going?
was wondering if you could share any insights?
They just launched a brand new special situations credit fund, which is what you are probably interviewing for. You should google the 2 PMs to get a sense for what they will be doing.
I dont think anyone will be able to answer your questions because they just raised money and probably dont have a full team in place yet.
Recommend you look at the prospectus.
Hired an guy with a good reputation out of Citi's distressed desk into London BlackRock.
Hey guys,
thanks for the bits of info.
Process took a little bit, but that's to be expected, esp with the holidays an all. Had the first round and it seems they liked me, so likely to schedule another round in the coming weeks. Nothing unexpected really, just a few questions on my experience, some technical questions, and then an improptu company pitch. Second round will likely be with more people and a case study, don't know the details of the case study.
I've taken a look into the team and they look to be quite good guys. Invest across the capital structure with c. 80/20 debt/equity; long/short. Am somewhat exited about it, let's see.
The high yield space has taken a bit of a hit this past quarter due to the energy companies getting hit bad, but they're still hiring.
If there are any further views on this group within BlackRock, would still like to hear it. If anyone's got any questions for me, please feel free.
