What to do when H1B visa runs out?

Currently in my 3rd year at a BB on H1B. Will file for an extension this year for 3 years but was wondering how to plan my career with only a few years left in the US.

Hoping for some advice here.

have your employer renew it. or if you want to be permanent resident, apply for national interest waiver or have your employer sponsor you a green card

Is it generally feasible to get an NIW for a finance position? I was under the impression that it was mainly for science-type jobs where you need advanced degrees and/or a high level of expertise.

Don't listen to this idiot. He doesn't know what he's talking about. Even accounting professionals can get NIW if they have relevant experience and bachelor's or master's degree, phd is a plus. I work with a chinese guy at my bank and he's from accounting background, came here for MSF and gained 3-4 years of experience and then applied for NIW which was approved within 1 year. NIW does not require STEM majors or anything like that, that's all BS. Google is your best source, there are people who's petitions were approved with only bachelor degrees! NIW requires occupations that are in US interest, and finance requires solid technical skills(not just any tom dick and harry can model) and it is eligible provided to you have some relevant professional experience. So yeah blow me captain

Easy there, son. I was basing my response off of the experiences of a few co- workers (Chinese, PHDs, worked in quant roles) that I used to work with, who had their NIW applications rejected.

The GC route seems safer than relying on NIW, it's what I think I would do. I could be totally wrong though..

I lost a few thousand Dollars on NIW dreams - lawyers tend to lure you into believing you will get approved, charge you legal fees with no assurance of approval. Yes PhD's can get rejected too (not all PhD's are stellar). That being said, I believe PhD's have a shorter route to the traditional green card path through employment anyway.
